How is Eli alive?
Alyx made a deal with Gman and saved him!
MrLugez Gman offered her the chance to save him in exchange for her “employment”. Basically the same choice Gordon was given at the end of HL1 to die or be his.
Timeline changed damn
Alyx wanted to free Gordon from stasis but Gman didnt let that happen instead of that he asked Alyx what she wants. Alyx said she wants to free earth from the combine which Gman declined, instead of that he showed her the future (episode 2 ending) and gave her a choice to save Eli. Alyx killed the advisor with the Gman's power than he put her into stasis...

I mean, it's not like they did an explicit announcement or anything, but this clearly shows that Valve has the intention to continue the series. *Hopefully,* in the current decade.

This is what I think happened.
The death of Eli was something that neither the G-Man nor his employers could have predicted and was an event that put their plans in jeopardy.
So they send the G-Man back through time to prevent this from happening, G-Man gets captured and young Alyx rescues him without realizing who he is.
After she does, young Alyx has her memory wiped and stays in the present until the events of Half-Life 2 while the older Alyx is taken by the G-Man in the future.
Otherwise there would be a paradox.
But G-Man can make portals and would've easily escaped.

Your knowledge on sci-fi time travel is outdated.
My guess is that G-Man needed an excuse to hire Alyx after Gordon rebelled, so he sent an advisor over to kill Eli to motivate Alyx to save him and apply.

Yeah, I kind of feel like James Moses Black should have voiced Eli in the main campaign of HL:A but not this ending, they should have gotten a guy closer to Robert Guillaume but James Moses Black is still a good voice for Eli

@@Zorklis Well, this is obviously just a theory, but here it goes:
Gordon failed to do what he was told in the beggining of EP1, so G-man decided to use the debt that Eli had with him and use Alyx as the pawn, instead of Gordon.
That's why he gives that final instruction to Gordon in EP2 (bring her safely to White Forest), so that Eli dies from the advisors and Gman can use that moment to bait past Alyx.
Basically, the "prepare for unforseen consequences" was taking Alyx and putting her in Stasis, not what we previously thought (Eli's Death).

I would love to see HL3 be playable in both vr and non vr modes. because man i want as many people as possible to play the next half life, but playing it in VR was absolutely one of the best gaming experiences i've had in years.

It seems like the Gman is the most powerful entity in existence. His power is beyond understanding. What we have seen, altering the timeline is a piece of cake for him. Its no suprise that he is capable of avoiding paradoxes. He even said himself that he is not allowed to interfere too much, so his power is even greater than he shows.

I remember seeing this video out of context with the ending and I thought it had to be fake. Considering we got that high quality fake Gordon Freeman render just before HL:A's release, I thought someone had made a fake ending. This was way too ballsy for Valve. Well, I was wrong as it turned out.
