Forging a Katana from a giant wrench! This was a really fun project and I was quite pleased with the outcome. Hope you enjoy the video :) Хобби

@A M on Mars?
@A M what in the hell are you talking about?! Lol. I made that comment based upon the guys ingenuity and as a light joke.
@@notthisguyagain8557 LOL he is too serious
😂😂
I'd rather keep it as a wrench. Great bludgeoning weapon.. Maybe forge a spike on one end.
Imagine how difficult it was many centuries ago without all this machines
Real Katana don't make this way, and this sword will not match with a Shinken. Katana have thre layers of metal in this, as like tooth, and take a month to complete
And they didn't have any giant wrenches either.
@@titosteinsgaming9340 more like months..

I'm so chill after watching this video.
Watching an artisan work, leaves me with a sense of awe. Thank you.
Awesome work. I love how the katana looks especially the handle.

My brain immediately saw the title as "Turning a katana into a giant wrench!"
Hopefully, that's the next video!
Turning a katana into a wrench should be considered a crime with death penalty of seppuku.
That is what he did. But then he reversed the video and played it backward... Though you knew that.
🤣🤣🤣
I saw, "wrench a giant into a katana!!"
ここまで忠実なのにびっくりしました。
まがいものではなく、正真正銘の刀ですね。
本当にすごいです。
i really like this one, looks more straight than a regular katanas
Ok. So I’ve been watching forging videos for quite some time now and follow a lot of prominent people. I saw the title and immediately thought “oh boy... another busted ass katana made from something more useful than the end result” but to my astonishment you did damn near everything “right” and made one hell of a blade. You sir just got a new subscriber. Keep doing what you’re doing. You have a talent my friend; don’t hide that under a bushel basket...
Thanks for watching! I try to make non busted-ass things for the most part 😊
Tool noises are relaxing 😌
This is amazing. I wish I could afford the tools to start doing this

that blade must be super tough. A wrench is made to take pressure.
But after all that heating and reddening, not sure how the temper goes. These tools are apparently not meant to be red heated.
キレイでカッコいい。日本文化に興味を持ってもらえるのは嬉しい。
Extremely well done Keaton! I love how much the sword squirms around when forging in the bevels! The trick using the drill to spool up the string you used to wrap the handle was worth the price of admission! Really beautiful build man!
Thank you sir! Always love seeing your comments
@@FarawayForge Are you aware that this isn't a real katana, not because it's not a Japanese heirloom but because the definition of katana does not match what you made in this video? I hope you know that this isn't an actual katana and it's nothing more than a pretty wallhanger.
@@thedimmadumdoughboy7347 it's definitely a katana even though it may not be made the same way as the types many long years ago in Japan.

That wrench was surprizingly large, but the end result of the katana you have forged was just *spectacular*
I like it, the handle wrapping is a bit odd from others but I like it
I was waiting for him to cut something at the end but he didn't now that gonna bother me through my whole life
True
Impressive. The hammering, the quenching, even the polishing. Though the Katana should gave that iconic curve from the quenching process.
Howard Clark (America's re-knowned swordsmith) normalizes this work, meaning he makes sure his work has an even amount of the metallic molecules.
I have watched so many forging videos now I can’t even count them, and I’m thinking about starting a forge myself, as a hobby that is. But there is one thing that’s has been bugging me for a long time. When you’ve made the swords, where do they end up? Do you sell them to people, store them in a shed or put them on a shelf for show off? That’s the thing I’d like to know before starting to make swords myself
Best blacksmith work ever

We use wrenched this big all the time in my trade lol sad to see it go but it's beautiful
When I watch these videos I think about how a sword smith from hundreds of years ago would react to these tools.
Great job bro. But i theres only two things i wish to see in this build. I wish you could give it proper hamon or temper lines, it wont just make it beautiful but will add some stregth to the edge. Second, i wish you wrapped the handle with ray skin or something rough so the string wrap wont move when handling. Thanks. Hope this will help you in your next build. Keep safe bud.

Seen a few videos like this one recently, v impressive work and project. Curious to know how this method of hardening for this purpose (sword) compares to more traditional sword making techniques (folding, etc). I’m probably over simplifying things.
It appears he made the spine of the sword just as hard as the edge, so it's hard but brittle. Likely to break if used. Normally, the spine is covered in clay before placing in the forge so it doesn't harden, allowing for more flexibility when used. This is where the curve of a katana comes from as the unequal hardening warps the sword into its spine. Also, folding the steel into damascus aligns the molecules in the blade parallel with each other, giving the sword even more strength in flexibility.
@@chrismichaelyoung great summary and explanation. Thanks!
Yeah but with traditional sword making you don't have 1080 steel like they use with tools so the metal he used is already high quality. I do agree with the hardening and using the clay for the spine. It probably is more brittle then traditional katana hardening
"Ayo can I unscrew some nuts?"
"Only one!"
