I have the same model early 19. I agree with your 5. The only additional on mine was no heated mirrors. On the interstate I get 18 at 70 mph. That's not pulling a trailer. Much better than my Rubicon.
Complains 1, 2, and 3 are all fixable with equipment package 2, nav upgrade and underseat storage, which would run you about 2700 dollars for all 3, you have 0 reason to complain about those as you knew exactly what truck you were buying before you handed them a check. Next time maybe look at what the truck has before droping 40+ thousand dollars on it Only valid complaint here is the door thing. If they wanted to do that it should be 7mph and it applies full breaks and parking break (but switching to neutral instead of park) would be the most logical way to make a safety feature that doesnt impede on use. With that fuel economy, I would bring that back to the dealer as even a brand new rebel before break in gets about 15mpg, if you're getting 10 on anything 89 or above then you have a problem.
I got the same exact 2019 White Ram Big Horn Sport with a 3.5 inch Rough Country Lift. Szott M59 Dodge had 10 dealer lifted trucks on their lot and sold 5 the first week. My truck has dealer installed BF Goodrich All terrain T/A K02 LT285/65 R20 (34.6 inch) tires with a 3.92 rear axle. I called the dealer and asked if they recalibrated speedo for larger tires and they said no. I asked why not, because the speedo was off by 6 miles an hour at 70. So they ordered a rough country speedo calibrator. This will change transmission shift points and recalibrate the speedo. My gas mileage has gone up to 15 mpg now from 13 mpg. The truck shifts into Eco mode more often now then it did before updating speedo for larger tire size.
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that app a paid monthly subscription? And isn’t it also like $30 a month? I have a Laramie but no way am I paying a monthly subscription to start my truck maybe 2x a year.
The transmission is not being hurt by stopping because it does NOT jam or throw itself into park, it only engages the parking brake. You even proved this yourself as you showed the truck stating parking brake was self engaged and you had to shift it into park yourself, also when I buy a vehicle I make dam sure I know all the options available and decide what I want or need and what I don't and that's the vehicle I buy, dealers will hunt all over the country to find just the right one. I also believe if you click your seatbelt you can disable auto park brake anyway.
I just got one of these 2019 Bighorns with the V6 to replace a 21 classic that got totaled. I love the truck. It’s actually got more than I actually need.
Who reverses with the door open? I don't think in my 12 years of driving i've ever done that. I open the door and check after putting in park, but never while driving...
The 8.4 nav would be awesome to remote start the vehicle. Outside of that I couldn’t care less about it. I personally like the matte finish on the surround better too. Ha It doesn’t slam it in park, the parking brake just gets set. No way would they design it to slam the trans into park while moving although it does certainly feel like that’s what happens. Fuel mileage is garbage on mine too but not near as bad as yours. I live in Iowa and have averaged 14.5 mpg since I got it back in December. I drive 50 miles round trip to work and it’s 95% highway. I have 3.92’s with the off-road package. My previous rig was a 2003 Suburban 2500 with the 8.1L in it. It would get 11.5 not towing and 9.5 towing my car on an open trailer or towing my 26’ boat. It was a beast. Mine was built in June 2019 so I don’t have the wall plugs either. I wish there at least one in the back. I will use my truck to tow my Camaro to the track and I always have to use a power inverter to charge my laptop. The wall plugs would be nice for that. I’ve contemplated putting a 12v plug in the cover below the USB’s in the back though. This would make using a power inverter much easier imo. I’d assume there’s a power wire to tie into somewhere relatively inside the console. I plan on making an under storage bin for mine. Got the idea from 5thgenrams.com. A guy used a $9 tote from Home Depot and it worked out well. I enjoy your videos on these new Rams. I have the same options on my truck as you pretty much except I have the off-road package and 3.92’s. Can’t wait to start towing with it.
He said that backing up with the door open causes the transmission to go into park, it didn't go into park it stay in reverse only the brakes were applied, its not going to damage the transmission
I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Night Edition W/OUT navigation and I still have the UConnect with the ability to remote start from my phone. I don’t understand why the 5th Gen trucks would not have the same ability.
have you tried to take off your brake assist for your backing up problem. also use your back up camera. for your other things that you hate just pay more to get them.
If you can't understand why there is an automatic Park feature on a new FCA vehicle, look up Anton Yelchin. If you want a 120V wall plug in your truck buy an inverter. You can get one that plugs into your 12V socket.
The transmission wont go into park when you open the door while moving IF you have your seatbelt on , it only goes into auto park when you open the door and the seatbelt off
I have a 2018 ram and i get 16 mpg around my area just went on a trip last week and go 18 / 19 mpg , it all depends on the way you drive it , oh puls i hsve a posi rear with 392 ratios.
DW I have a Big Horn with the 4x4 Off-Road package and I have the outlets. I think that’s why you may not have them. Mine is also 3.92 ratio and I get anywhere from 15 to 18mpg. I live in the Atl area and I’m on the I-285. I know that helps my mileage, not in stop and go too much, I drive my Durango for that. I also use mid grade gas mostly. I used the 93 and it didn’t give me much. Next I’m going to try 93 without ethanol in it. I don’t know if you can get that in Michigan but I know it gave my Durango 3 extra mpg on the hwy. I love the truck bro and thanks for the vids. I got a question. I bought all the black emblems from Ram, all OEM. I think you can pop the Hemi emblems out and the RAM letters on the grill out. That’s how my new pieces look, you can pop em in. I just don’t know how to get them out. I ain’t trying to damage my whip so do you know how to get them out. Keep the vids going.
Oh okay, very nice! Thanks for the support! I am not sure how you would pop them out without breaking them. Good luck with that though! Im sure it will look sweet when you get done with them!
I switched out all of my chrome emblems to black myself. The grill emblems have a small screw in the back and they are a pain to get at. You'll have to remove the grill and fascia peices under the lights. I recommend (if you're doing it yourself) taking something with a flat edge (razor, knife ect) get under a letter and pop it off. I know how it sounds but it works outstandingly well. As for the hood I took a microfiber cloth and put it on my index finger and wedged it under the front edge of the emblem. It pops up and outwards towards the front of the hood. Hope this helps. I have pics but can't post them.
My 2019 bighorn actually did get the advertised economy, no etorque. However, i did recently level the front and went to a more agressive tire, lost about 2 miles per gallon on highway, still getting around 16 in town. I absolutely love my truck though, hemi is a beast, transmission is perfect. Mine has the black appearance package, but your white one is nice !! Great vids btw !!
I have to say you made a good choice with the edge pulsar. The is a couple of other things you can do to that truck to improve your MPG and add some HP.I have a 2017 Ram Rebel and i installed a 50 series Flow master muffler and i also installed a K&N C.A.I Filter.I also have the Edge Pulsar and with 93 octane i was getting between 15-16 MPG.I was getting 13-14 with 87 octane without the edge but like you mentioned its winter and we are getting winter blend gasoline so this is the best a Ram will do.
That's interesting about using "Waze" for your navigation via your phone. What happens if you get a call though, does it cut off the navigation? It's too bad they didn't give you a wall plug in the truck, mine has 2, one in the front and one in the back. I got a Laramie. It does have the chrome though and I do like the chrome.
On my 2019 RAM Laramie Longhorn, Crew Cab 4x4 with the 3.92 rear end I use mostly 89 octane Shell and sometimes a mix with 91 octane Shell and the fuel economy even in city stop-and-go driving is around 16.4 mpg, Highway is around 19.4 mgp (below 78 mph) ... 20" wheels with the stock Bridgestone 275's. The emergency braking with doors open (going forward and backwards) was kind of a surprise, but is a valuable safety feature as you could forget to put the dial into Park when exiting the vehicle, ... apparently happened frequently as people are used to column and center console shifters.
I have to agree with Doowork. I have the Big Horn with the 5.7l and 3.21 rear, and run 89 octane yet only get about 14mpg city driving. I wish I could get your gas mileage! There are many videos on RUclips that address this very issue and most come up with less than advertised fuel economy.
I also miss the remote start thru the uconnect access app. Like u my 17 had it. Android auto is great but i hope it becomes wireless in the future. That's weird about the 12v i have a 19 black edition bighorn and it has the 12v on the rear console. I am happy the got rid of the horrible mast antenna and they illuminated the power mirror buttons for us garage parkers.
The 4th gen has an update to it that will do the same thing as the 5th gen when moving with the door open. I have a 2015 big horn that had all the updates done and this happens to me. The only difference is that it does not put the parking brake on just goes to park.
I’m sure you can add the folding storage dividers under the rear seats, but that is the sole reason they got rid of the transmission hump the earlier gen rams have ......now you can flip your seats up and have stuff flat on the floor , they even have spots next to the storage bins where you can strap your cargo down
I'm confused. I have a 2019 classic Big horn with the 8.4 inch screen. I don't have navigation and I'am able to locate and start my truck from anywhere.
Great video. Im curious about 'Car play.' I just bought a Ram and uconnect without navigation just like you did. So, I can download that app you showed and connect to phone outlet, but i did not see car play on the options. How do I get car play on my uconnect screen?
When you plug your phone in, car play will automatically pop up on your phone and you will see the car play icon on the bottom corner of your 8.4" screen..
My 2018 REBEL doesn’t have nav but I can use Uconnect to lock unlock and remote start and set off horn/lights! Not sure why ram would change that in 2019! Maybe if you don’t have remote start on your key fob that might make sense!?!? 🤔 Ya it’s just low end package truck! You should research online before you buy a truck for sure! Man y’all need to get your facts straight! It does actually throw it into park, hence the message “Auto park” engaged! My 2018 Rebel has the same feature but I have a manual park brake so how do you explain that? This is why you have to shift it back to park to reset it! I don’t ever open my door while backing up to anything, and I don’t know of anyone else who does either! So that is dumb to hate that! I have one time tried to get out of my truck in a hurry to grab something and forgot to put truck in park, and that auto park kicked in and I was glad it was there otherwise that could’ve gotten ugly real quick!
So I feel like you should just learn how to back up and park without opening your door, but I’m pretty sure that is a setting that can be changed. On your radio go to settings, brakes. I believe this is the work of the “auto park brake”
I live in VT and everything is stock and I get 15/16 mpg's no etorque.. I was at the dealer and this summer ram coming out with upgrades for the radio, so you may be able to get the better radio...
I was trying to back up to a trailer with my 2019 ram about a year ago and could not figure out why it was forcing itself into park. Now I know it was because the door was open….
GPS is not a data signal. It is a one way signal encoded with the naval atomic clock time stamp. That’s why gps works on your phone or truck in wilderness areas, the dessert or in the middle of the ocean where there is no cell service. Your location is then calculated via the differential in the time stamp received from up to 10 satellites. The uconnect most assuredly works off cellular data or perhaps off the Sirius proprietary satellite connection.
1. NAV is an $800 option in early 2019. Not worth it to me. I can start the truck when I am walking toward it and turn on the heated seats. 2. I am skipping the rear under-seat storage. I have a big dog and when the seat is up she doesn't have to stomp all over the lip of the storage container. 3. Agree on the door open / tranny lock and parking brake nonsense. I've been driving 40 years and have never seen a need for this interlock. It's annoying as hell and will surely break at some point in the future and require expensive repairs.
I just bought my dream truck on 1-2-19, 2019 ram 1500 crew cab with the 6'4" bed, laramie with the sports appearance package. It has the 8.4 with nav, has the trailer brake controller. Its also in delmonico red. I absolutely love this truck. Paid 51k after all was said and done. Oh also has the etorque on it. Nice video!
Do you think the level and tires have effected the mpg? Mine is stock and run 91 and I’m getting 14. Just curious because I would like to level and add tires to mine.
Yes, the level and tires do adversely affect the mpg. More aggressive tires cause more drag, which reduces economy. Also, the factory rake enhances the aerodynamic effect, so when you level or lift the truck, it also creates more drag.
My friend I’m worried something is wrong with your truck. My Ram with the same engine trans and driveline as yours has been averaging like 17-18 mpg. I also watched your acceleration videos and I’m about a full second quicker 0-60 and your truck seems to hit a wall when you pass 70. Maybe it’s your tires? Something isn’t right.
they made it that way because people would forget to put there vehicles in park somtime and there vehicles would roll away. . it dont shift the transmission into park it just applies the parking brakes. your gear seclector still said r for reverse
Things I miss from my '14 Sport to my '19 Big Horn. Alpine Stereo, 6'4" bed, extended gas tank, really miss that large gas tank. Wish I would have gotten the LED lights. I loved my '14 but it stated to have electrical problems with the radio, I like my '19.
You might be able to unlock the nav. I had a 2017 Cherokee and I paid to have the nav unlocked. It might just be a software unlock. Check with your dealer and check out the sticker. It might say nav capable.
christopher kibler , I was just saying that the dealer can tell you if it can be a software unlock. The dealer wanted like 500 to unlock mine. I also found a coupon so I saved another 100 off. It wasn’t hard to unlock it.
What exactly is the problem? The truck provides a camera... with a zoom even.... to back up and line up for a trailer. There is zero need for opening the door now!
I tow trailers everyday all day. I have never opened my door to do that. use your mirror. I also have a 19 ram 1500. I do agree with almost everything you said. I wish my mirrors where electric up and down for towing only thing I wish
I have a GM and I LOVE the remote start app. It's been useful to me more times then I can count. I'd be frustrated paying 50k for a truck and finding out you can't get it, but can if you go to a higher trim. That's silly. At least they have the remote start on the key, but still a small compromise. Nice looking truck!
My 2019 Ram, Black sports package has the under seat storage compartments, and the 12v wall plugs. I wish I had the 8.4 nav, to start vehicle from phone
#3 is just ridiculous. Specially when you consider the fold out box only existed because the floor wasn’t flat. The floor is now flat thus...no flip out box. Judging by these comments just about everyone recognizes that this is a silly video.
I own 2018 ram, I thought there was a trans problem when it wouldn't back up like what was said. I opened the door to see how close I was to a boat parked there. It locked up and wouldn't reset till I closed the door and it reset. I hate it . And I also hate that eco bullshit from 8 cylinder to four. Makes the truck sound like shit in town, I mean 5.7 hemi dual exhaust I love the way it sounds when your foot is in it but the minute you let up and the eco kicks in how disappointing. But I do absolutely love the truck besides those to things.
"things I hate" "not good" ....."ok they're little things, I dont hate, I love this truck".... Just complaining about things you didn't cough up the cash for
As far as the slamming into park, it isn't safe to back up with the doors open. It is not going to hurt the transmission, it locks the brakes, so the transmission isn't turning. Just don;t do it. I mean, you have a camera and all to backup. MPG's has a lot to do with cold weather gasoline. They make a summer blend and a winter blend. Also unless you are running a tuner, anything above 87 is a waste of money. That is on you, if you feel you get better performance from 93 and you are paying at the least 50 cents plus more per gallon. Check out Tier 1 gasolines. That is a thing, google it.
I get 14MPG on my 2019 Bighorn with a 3.5 lift and 35x12.5x20 tires I live in NH. I don’t think you can say the 11.4 MPG is accurate when you’re warming your truck up so much that’s not actual MPG you’ll do much better in warmer weather

Im pretty sure all 8.4 systems have the gps and nav built in, you just need to pay to have it enabled at least they did on the 4th gens
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that app a paid monthly subscription? And isn’t it also like $30 a month? I have a Laramie but no way am I paying a monthly subscription to start my truck maybe 2x a year.
It is, but it's also free for the first 6 months of owning the vehicle..
Shawn Castator was the dumbest fucking thing I ever heard. With a rear view camera why is your door open numbnuts
Don’t you have a remote start on your key fob
The 8.4 nav would be awesome to remote start the vehicle. Outside of that I couldn’t care less about it. I personally like the matte finish on the surround better too. Ha
It doesn’t slam it in park, the parking brake just gets set.
Don2615 yep. Time traveler.
I had a 2019 Big Horn on rental and got 22 pretty steady on 87 octane, maybe you need to lighten up on the throttle !
charles herring especially with the 3.21 gear ratio.
That and the cold weather and winter blend fuel isn't helping either.. Just a week later with temps in the 40's i've gained over 2 miles per gallon..
Economy with a Pulsar is NOT a good test.
@@jamesmcclane4854 I didn't have a Pulsar, just a plain ol' hemi
Your driving effects mpg too
I can't believe I wasted 11:31 minutes of my time watching this.
plumber802 No shit.. I felt the same way. Overly repetitive.
you too? lol omg
This POS looks like a TONKA
plumber802 lol thanks for this comment... now i won’t watch it. And I’m less than a minute in :)
Same here. IDK about you, but, I was scratching my head when he said he was getting that low of MPG. I'm getting 17-19 in town and 20-23 on the HWY.
When you open the door have you your Seatbelt on? Then you can turn off the handbreak and drive :). Or?
I have a 2019 5.7 Hemi (etorque) that consistently gets 20 on the road and 17 around town on 87 octane. I wonder why yours does so poorly.
Well it's your fault you didnt get an addition truck with those features. You got tons of options to go through to get what you want in your vehicle
have you tried to take off your brake assist for your backing up problem. also use your back up camera. for your other things that you hate just pay more to get them.
1djsmoke Thanks my dude. I’ll let you know how it goes
Sweet! Thank You!
@@DOOWORKMOTORSPORTS you can turn off the auto park under the user settings. I hate that feature and glad we can disable it :)
What brand and size of tire you put on?
So the body painted bumpers are they still chrome?
I have to say you made a good choice with the edge pulsar. The is a couple of other things you can do to that truck to improve your MPG and add some HP.I have a 2017 Ram Rebel and i installed a 50 series Flow master muffler and i also installed a K&N C.A.I Filter.I also have the Edge Pulsar and with 93 octane i was getting between 15-16 MPG.I was getting 13-14 with 87 octane without the edge but like you mentioned its winter and we are getting winter blend gasoline so this is the best a Ram will do.
You have a camera why do you need to open the door?
MegaDee911 he’s a dumb fuck
FYI. It’s braking with the electronic parking brake not the transmission.
I'm getting 14.8 on a 2.5 leveling kit with 22x12 on 305 45 NT420S
"Seat belt buckled the truck won't auto park when you open the door" This was mentioned in a forum.
I use 87 octane in my 19 limited and I'm getting over 18 mpg combined. I am driving maybe 65% hwy and 35% city.
Dude has no clue what octane ratings are or how they affect the truck. Thinks 93 = "premium." and can't back up without opening his door apparently.
You probably have the Level 1 package. The Level 2 has the navigation radio. Most things were options to add. Laramie is the way to go lol.
Nice truck
I’m sure you can add the folding storage dividers under the rear seats, but that is the sole reason they got rid of the transmission hump the earlier gen rams have ......now you can flip your seats up and have stuff flat on the floor , they even have spots next to the storage bins where you can strap your cargo down
Also I’m almost sure the automatic parking brake only applies when you open your door while on reverse only, not while on drive
I'm confused. I have a 2019 classic Big horn with the 8.4 inch screen. I don't have navigation and I'am able to locate and start my truck from anywhere.
It’s the 5th gen only
I thought gps signals don't do any of that, but instead data connectivity like 4g, which you pay monthly just like on phones
What size lift is on the truck?
2.5" level
I jusy bought a ram 1500 2019 bighorn . I have navigation but no remote start ..
Juan Puebla idiot
@dooworkproductions I don't have nav and i can use the app to start, lock, and unlock...
Heated side mirrors?
My 2018 REBEL doesn’t have nav but I can use Uconnect to lock unlock and remote start and set off horn/lights! Not sure why ram would change that in 2019!
Maybe if you don’t have remote start on your key fob that might make sense!?!? 🤔
Ya it’s just low end package truck!
What is your tire setup
285/60-20 BFGoodrich KO2
I live in VT and everything is stock and I get 15/16 mpg's no etorque.. I was at the dealer and this summer ram coming out with upgrades for the radio, so you may be able to get the better radio...
I was trying to back up to a trailer with my 2019 ram about a year ago and could not figure out why it was forcing itself into park. Now I know it was because the door was open….
I have a 2019 with the hemi and consistently get 19 mpg going back and forth to work.
Hello ,and what about the lift kit,you have not given Problems of ball join ?,you feel more rigid?
No problems at all with the 2.5" leveling kit..
Thanks!!!
Can’t you pay for the Nav? Add on from the dealer..
I think you just have a 2018 that rolled off the line super early
Hey bud, you could add the navigation to it. But it's 600$
This truck is long gone. My new truck has the 12" screen with nav!
I had a 15 ram outdoorsman with 8.4 uconnect and no navigation. And i was able to start, lock, unlock, track, from the uconnect app.
Have you have any issues with your apple carplay? I have the same truck set up and I have issues with Apple CarPlay connectivity issues
Yes, every now and then it will not connect and or just shut off while driving..
Yes forsure..
Do your leather pants stick to the seats on hot days ?
they made it that way because people would forget to put there vehicles in park somtime and there vehicles would roll away. . it dont shift the transmission into park it just applies the parking brakes. your gear seclector still said r for reverse
Well for it just applying the parking brake, it sure does make a loud clunk and acts like it was jammed into park..
Did you change tire size with the pulsar?
Check in the middle console under the phone holder, there should be a wall outlet there.
There's not.. But yes that is where they are on the trucks that come equipped with it..
DABII71 just have to go to the Uconnect site and they walk you through. Dealers love to lie
christopher kibler , I was just saying that the dealer can tell you if it can be a software unlock. The dealer wanted like 500 to unlock mine. I also found a coupon so I saved another 100 off. It wasn’t hard to unlock it.
Try fastening the seatbelt then opening the door.. I believe that disables the stop and parking brake function
It’s very simple you should of checked the options when buying a new truck and now you should trade up if your not happy with the truck accessories
Dude could you imagine driving down the road and your door opening? Also dodges have always had bad fuel mileage for as long as i can remember.
Which has the best gas millage f150, silverado or ram 1500?
I waisted my time with this video you should pay us from your ad money for waisting our time
What exactly is the problem? The truck provides a camera... with a zoom even.... to back up and line up for a trailer. There is zero need for opening the door now!
The Big Horn is just 1 step above a base model, so you can't expect it to have all the features you are missing.
I tow trailers everyday all day. I have never opened my door to do that. use your mirror. I also have a 19 ram 1500. I do agree with almost everything you said. I wish my mirrors where electric up and down for towing only thing I wish
Same here...i have towed countless times with many different trucks and have nvr opened my door for any backing situation. Mirrors 100% of the time.
I have a 2022 and I do mostly highway miles all stock original tires and I get 19.6 mpg
If you can’t see the lines, tilt your mirrors down. I’ve never needed to open the door for backing up to a trailer.
Autopark only turns on with the driver seatbelt is off
My 2019 Ram, Black sports package has the under seat storage compartments, and the 12v wall plugs.
$600 to have GPS programmed to your bighorn. All it is a plugin update to your 8.4 uconnect
David Holt no you go to the site and enter in the code on the touch screen after you’ve depressed the climate and rear defrost
Only thing I hate is the little twist thing to change gears
why on earth would you want to open your door to backup to a trailer? besides, dont you have a camera?
Rent one go 70 down I75 and open door. And tell us how that worked out! ;)
Tonys ToolBox if your thinking the auto park will activate it won’t.
u have to keep in mind when ever u buy a vehicles they have different packages available u probably got close to the base model big horn truck. the 120 v outlets probably come standard in a different package
I have noticed that some big horns with the same package as me (same sticker) have the outlets.. Which leads me to believe they were missed on the assembly line..
