Okay this might be a stupid question but I have to ask. How doesn't the movable pulley just fall off the rope? Like is it held / balanced on the rope or is it cylindrical around the rope which would mean it won't fall off in that situation. So like lets say the load on a movable pulley sways because of wind, wouldn't the pulley just fall off or flip upside down?
There are grooves around the circumference of the pulley...the rope runs around in the grooves and the weight that the pulley is lifting keeps the rope tight in the grooves. Hence the pulley system won't fall off the rope.
@@joliettt One may also attach a single fixed pulley to this pulley's free strand so that force can be applied in a convenient direction, i.e. downwards
