Dear Jane, I am autodidactic on the piano- and your video helps me getting along with this beautiful Haydn Sonate . First it was difficult for me to play the ornaments correctly, but slowly but safety I have a little success - Thank you so much - I am so thankfull 😊❣🌹 ! .
Dear Andrea, nice to hear from you. Thanks for letting me know that this tutorial is helping you learn this sonata. Good luck with it and best wishes 😊❤️
I have a question please. At the 1:48 you encounter a [turn - grupeto]but turn suppose to start after the basic note or before [depends how turn being written]. For example since the note its D shouldn't starts with E first. I know it's not wrong for the piece cause anyone plays it's like this way. But I dont know why my book says different things about turn and that really confuses me.
Ornaments are decorations like jewelry, people wear them where they like. There are basic rules (see my sight reading lesson 10). Book editions also differ. Inconsistency does drive this math person crazy !
The ornament is wrong! In the works Haydn, the gruppetto has only 4 notes, starting from a note above the main one, different from the other composers like Mozart and Beethoven, that are 5 notes.
I very much disagree. I think the piece was played near-perfectly. Maybe YOU'RE the one playing it wrong. This was about as good as it could get, besides the trills. Edit: The grupetto, 'scuse me
Pssst.......MaryContrary..........The title CLEARLY states that this is a TUTORIAL..........it is presented at a reduced tempo so the student can CLEARLY hear each note..........now, are you clarified??
i’m sorry but i think you played 1 more measure in bar 67
Thanks, must be an editing cut and paste error. Will pin your comment!

@Victor Marins, actually it starts from the original note, then goes up, back to original note, down one note, and then back up to original note!
