The Khlong Toei slum in Bangkok is one of the biggest and most dangerous slums in Thailand. More than 100,000 inhabitants live here on an area of 1.5 square kilometres. Most of the people in the Khlong Toei slum live in self-built huts which were illegally built on the Port Authority grounds in Khlong Toey Discrict.
Although the Khlong Toei Slum is located near the Khlong Toei Market, the slum is hardly known among tourists. Therefore I would like to give you an impression in my slum tour to show you how life is in the Khlong Toei slum.
The Khlong Toei Slum...Nine hundred square meters of narrow alleys and ramshackle buildings, a tiny plot of land with an outsized reputation in Thailand as the most notorious address in the country. Now hidden behind high concrete walls and slated for demolition, Khlong Toei is almost forgotten in a country fast developing.
But Khlong Toei deserves better. It's a place where a unique blend of people came together almost seven decades ago and a one-of-a-kind culture emerged through shared hardship and struggle.

Wait till you see the slums of Manila, Philippines. These Bangkok slums have clean and dry walkways...In our slums, it is wet and full of garbage...Our children dont have shirts...The Bangkok slums you say are just ordinary streets in Manila.

Some years ago I accidentally entered this area (at the railway track) with two big Nikon DSLRs. I bought a beer for a guy, who looked like a local boss and he showed me around, Even saw a hidden rooster fighting area. Everybody was friendly and there was no dangerous situation. Have to go there once again.
