- To mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King this is an updated version of, “Up To The Mountain,” a song I recorded last year with some of my LA musician friends. Written by Patty Griffin, the lyrics were inspired by the life of Dr. King. I asked Michiko Hill to write a classical intro which she plays here, and then Hadley Hockensmith’s guitar transitions the tune back to its gospel blues roots. Charlean Carmon’s vocals are the final inspirational ingredient that brings the message of the song to life.
Love this!!! Thank you! As a woman disabled with constant pain 29 years, weary of fighting, clinging to God to get through the day, this really hit home for me. We can do this. One more time. Beautiful. Thank you!!!! 💖🙏
Utterly magnificent rendition... Full Grace-filled Honouring of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.
Finally a cover that does the song, and the great Dr King, justice. The arrangement is superb and Charlean really made it her own. Truly beautiful (and that's coming from a huge fan of the original by Patty Griffin)
Such a beautiful tribute. Love the classical piano version and the vocals w/guitar also.
Thank you sweet lady for sharing your beautiful voice with us.. Goose bumps..!!
Charlean Carmon’s vocals were amazing and the guitar work was the perfect touch also
Excellent tribute & thanks for sharing,. R.I.P. KING 🖤
Great pianist right there as well... Great voice 🥰👌
This song is so soul stirring!!!🙏🏽
The best cover of this song.
The best cover I’ve ever heard❤️❤️ I love this song and your voice!
So beautiful!!
Gracias por compartir estas canciones lindas inspiradoras y dan alegria de vivir. Me gustan las canciones que ha podido recopilar y los personajes que dan vida a ello en diferentes versiones...como Abraham Laboriel , Bill Cantos, etc.
It is very beautiful
Lyrics:
I went up to the mountain
Because you asked me to
Up over the clouds
To where the sky was blue
I could see all around me
Everywhere
I could see all around me
Everywhere
Sometimes I feel like
I've never been nothing but tired
And I'll be working
Till the day I expire
Sometimes I lay down
No more can I do
But then I go on again
Because you ask me to
Some days I look down
Afraid I will fall
And though the sun shines
I see nothing at all
Then I hear your sweet voice, oh
Oh, come and then go, come and then go
Telling me softly
You love me so
The peaceful valley
Just over the mountain
The peaceful valley
Few come to know
I may never get there
Ever in this lifetime
But sooner or later
It's there I will go
Sooner or later
It's there I will go
Piano playing on point by Michiko Hill. Can you post piano keys? Thanks
Her lower register runs kind of reminds me of Regina Bell, beautiful.
