Unlucky for the Otomo that their neighbor was the Shimazu
Unlucky for the Shimazu, their enemy was Hideyoshi.
@@sahipkran9447 hahahahaha
@@sahipkran9447 unlucky for Hideyoshi his enemy was China
Not really. Most of my campaign have shimazu wiped out by ito for some reason. And then ito got wiped out by otomo. Shimazu may have sharp steel. But its not a match for a clan that have a boomstick.
@@unknownbenefactor8029 You'll lose, we know what happened during the s*no-Japanese Wars
"My closest allies are without fail men of a new breed: the man who has mastered the alchemy of black powder; the man who has tamed the primitive tongue of the babarian traders; and the man who can wield a teppou with such inner-peace as to score one hundred hits out of one hundred shots at one hundred steps from his target."
Otomo Yoshiaki - Spring 1545
Quote from Barbarian Masters, Episode 1.
Nice
This clan is such a rewarding challenge to play in Shogun 2. If you can survive the immediate onslaught of war from your neighboring clans then you can start researching some awesome gun units.
One of my strategy is to let rebel take one of your province with the nanban trade port and allies with Omi so you wouldn't take diplomat debuff, this way you can also get 2 nanban trade port too then block the way to main land with your boat and conquer the other part of kyusu easily
Late game Otomo is a hell on earth. Imagine have a versatile combine of range and melee, i only thought a unit like this only exists in M2TW
I'm still struggling to properly use gun units in open battles, short range needing direct line of sight and slow reload together pose a great challenge
@@christianweibrecht6555 have you played napoleon before?
@@hannibalburgers477 no, and I imagine using guns in that is much easier because the enemy also has to deal with those challenges instead of creating an Archer Doom stack
Yoshida Shoin (吉田松陰) once stated:
"Once a man's will is set, he need no longer rely on others or expect anything from the world. His vision encompasses Heaven and earth, past and present, and the tranquility of his heart is undisturbed"
Beautiful.
You have no idea how much I needed to read this.
Yes praise the lord, nice to see you doing one on the otomo, so many underrated clan, some of which never really gets much attention or love, pretty soon we're gonna start asking you to start doing 2 of these a month with this quality, I would really love to see you do a deep dive on certain battles throughout this period
Playing as the Otomo on legendary is a brutal but exhilarating experience.
Ah the great Otomo Clan
The great supporters of the Ashikaga clan/ Shogunate
Can't wait for the Uesugi, Sanada, Date, Ashina, Matsudaira/Tokugawa, Oda, Mogami and Asakura
Same clans i want to see!
I am personally excited for the Imagawa.
@@SuprememessageNG I love the Imagawa! but I feel they are underrated.
@@sengokusanada2690 they definitely
Some people think Yoshimoto is just a backdrop to set up Nobunagas launch of success
Plus Yoshimotos mother, lady jukeini is a an important figure too
@@thedragonofechigo7878 Yeah!
Epic. My favorite clan in Shogun 2
I love how during Oda's hunt for Christians the rest of Japan had 隠しクリスチャン (kakushi kurischan, hiding Christians) but in the Otomo lands they were called 隠れクリスチャン (kakure kurisuchan, being-hidden Christians).
There's also a fictionalized and fantasized version of their later history called "Clan of the Otori".
I've always wanted to know more about the Otomo clan! Thank you so much!
I wonder what would've happened if the otomo did repel the shimazu and conquer all of Kyushu, maybe Japan wouldn't have closed itself and we would see great Japanese/European cathedrals
I look forward to watching both the Mori and the Sanada. Good video.
I’ve been waiting for this for so long and I just finished my Otomo Shogun 2 campaign
Could you make a detailed video about Christianity in Japan?
Otomo Sorin had many excellent retainers.
The most famous was Tachibana Dousetsu, whom Takeda Shingen of Kai, far away from Kyushu, wanted to meet, but the most outstanding was Yoshioka Nagamasu.
Yoshioka Nagamasu, who could be called the Prime Minister of the Otomo family, was a master of intrigue and repelled Mori Motonari's invasion of Kyushu with intrigue, and built the Otomo family's heyday, but he died of old age.
The deaths of other outstanding retainers, such as Usuki Akisumi, contributed to the decline of the Otomo family and led to the great defeat at the Battle of Mimigawa.
If they had lived, they would have opposed the invasion, and even if they had, they would not have suffered a crushing defeat.
Can't wait for the Toyotomi, Oda, Uesugi, Hosokawa, Chosokabe, Tokuagwa, Hojo, and Mori! :)
The history of the clans are my favorite videos in your channel!
I have a doubt: if a Taira or a Fujiwara descendent unified japan, he could be Shogun? Or he would serve his entire life as a kampaku like Hideyoshi? The same could happen if a guy descend from the Minamoto but not the Seiwa-Genji? I aways recomend your videos to my brazilian friends who can undestand english and they aways love your channel! You help me a lot to learn about the samurai. Your channel have a enormous potential and deserve more subs and views :D
(And sorry for my bad english, i still need to practice a bit)
Thanks man! And to answer your question, someone descended from the Fujiwara or Taira probably could not become shogun. Hence why Nobunaga and Hideyoshi never were able to. In order to have done so they would have hard to either organize their own adoption into that family or mess with their own family tree to try and show some connection (that is sort of what Ieyasu did).
@@TheShogunate There were two Kujo (Fujiwara) Shoguns under the Hojo.
Additionally there appear to have been letters back and forth between Nobunaga and the Court in the days leading up to Honno-ji discussing promoting Nobunaga to one of Kampaku/Shogun/Daijo-Daijin because the court really wanted to incorporate and control him with a pre-existing position. Nobunaga seems to have recognized the necessity of taking a higher status position in order to pass it on to his son and cement his clan's rule, however he was more concerned with planning the invasions of Shikoku and Kyushu and determined court politics could wait.
ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B8%89%E8%81%B7%E6%8E%A8%E4%BB%BB%E5%95%8F%E9%A1%8C
Obviously there would have been problems with him becoming Shogun (chief among them making the still alive Ashikaga Yoshiaki a rallying point for people opposed to him) and the more likely conclusion seems to have been appointing him Daijo Daijin (Konoe Sakihisa resigned the post in May/June 1582 clearing the way for Nobunaga) but Shogun does appear to have been seriously considered an option.
@@just_radical I always give the the Hojo puppet shoguns a pass because they barely even had any say at all haha
@@TheShogunate thats fair I think tho the more I read about the jobs I start to get annoyed at the idea that they were prescriptive rather than descriptive.
Its sort of clear that repeatedly anyone powerful enough to control the country could find the justification to take whichever job they wanted provided they thought making/forging the paperwork necessary to tangentially connect themselves to a guy who lived centuries ago was worth it.
Love it, been saying for years why does somebody do videos on Japan clan's, ten out of ten love your channel love history.
Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.

You can still mod the DLCs into the game and still play it for free except in multiplayer
Otomo clan DLC is quite fine but that Blood Pack DLC is straight up stupid

THESE VIDEOS ARE REALLY AMAZING!! KEEP MAKING MORE VIDEO'S, HISTORY OF THE DATE CLAN NEXT??
Oh my god, that way of the samurai 3 cenimatic. I miss that game
As we are down South. Will we see Tachibana clan and also their colourful Daiymo Tachibana Muneshige, who is the equal warrior of Honda Tadatsku from the West. Especially during his resistant to Shimazu clan and honorable let them go after Sekigahara. Not to mention his famous wife who is a warrior as well. Also he is a owner of a unique sword
Great videos about the clans!!! Make one about the Miura Clan! They were a major clan in japan history!!!
I came here to do an assignment which is a presentation of a documentary and I think I found a good topic! Thanks a lot
Leaving this for the YT gods.
The production quality of your videos amazes me bro👍😁👌! You're getting close to 100k, what're your plans when you hit it?
"Bird if you don't sing, I will wait for you to sing"
Ieyasu's entire life is a revolution. He kept watching these things cautiously and took actions appropriately.
Ah yes, time for breakfast. Nothing like morning coffee and history.
Plz bring Uesugi next

Best clan ever
I have always wondered about the meaning behind the clan symbol. That's one burning question laid to rest!
this video was awesome!
Otomo in the beginning, including Otomo-no-Otomaro (大伴弟麿呂), is 大伴. And Otomo in the rest is 大友.
Lost more against them than against any other clan.
Hi, could you do a playlist of the Clan videos so I can view them together?
Let's Go

Is it true that Sorin Otomo was the only one who converted into Christianity in his clan? I don't know if this is true, but I've heard that even his own right hand man Dosetsu Tachibana doesn't convert to Christianity let alone the other retainer. Can someone enlighten me about this?
Other daimyos have converted to Christianity even the Shimazu
@@outboundflight4455 What I mean is within Otomo clan retainer only. I never heard about Shimazu daimyo converted to Christianity during Sengoku Period...
Otomo Sorin, Arima Harunobu, Takayama Ukon, Konishi Yukinaga, Gamo Ujisato, Omura Sumitada just to name a few who have converted to catholicism..

The ouchi clan is interesting. Under rated clan. The origins of the clan is what makes them unique and interesting.
Looking forward to watch about So clan
more. More. MOOOORRREEEEE!!!!
Can you remind me, please, when the current name of Japan, Nihon, came to be used? As far as I know, roughly by the reign of the prince Shotoku Japan was called either Yamato or Wa (state of Wa, Wa people etc). Once when Shotoku wrote the letter to a Sui Chinese emperor, if I am not mistaken, he firstly used the name ''The country of the Rising Sun'' and over time it completely replaced the old name of the country. In general, when did the Yamato period of the Japan's history end and the new period start?
I thought you were going to say Otomo Sorin converted to Christianity but then vexed the missionaries by staying both Buddhist and Shinto. Modern Christian missionaries have noted this tendency in Japanese Christians, since many Japanese are both Buddhist and Shinto, sort of one comes from within, one comes from nature....Darn those monotheists and their angry jealous God...
Yes Finnaly
Please make history of Miyoshi clan
Could you make a video for the Satsuma clan invaded Ryukyu kingdom??PLEASE!!!!

Whos the next clan, please choose Sanada or Uesugi , their history is one of the most amazing in Japan, in my opinion.
I saw the NHK series "Sanada Maru" few months ago if you haven't seen it I highly recommend it to you.

Nobunaga's Ambition soundtrack fits great here. Btw, don't you want to make a video about NA SoI: Ascension? It seems like better than SoI, but how much better? A lot of questions here...
I haven't really played too much Ascension but I imagine I will get around to it eventually.

Is there any video where you talk about the Kitabatake clan?
Super interested to hear if there is more about them, but I can't find much information online, other than their slaughter by the Oda clan.

This is a bit brief compared to some other channels though.

Hi, I was wondering, where did you find the resources to research the Otomo Clan?

i would like to know more about the Genpei war. what books do you know on the subject?
Might be the wrong video to comment on, but as it is the most recent one..
Have you considered looking into Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin, basically Yakuza in the Bakumatsu period. It is region-locked to Japan, but I'm sure getting hold of a copy and circumventing any hindrance is relatively easy. I'm sure it would make a nice addition to your game playlist, otherwise, maybe Way of the Samurai?
That is definitely something I could get into once we move into the Edo period.

Hello from Tokyo. Aren't Otomo (大伴) clan and Otomo (大友) clan different? 大伴 clan was based in Wakayama prefecture (Kishu). On the other hand, 大友 clan started in Kanagawa prefecture (Sagami) and then gained influence in Oita prefecture (Bungo) later on.
That could very well be the truth. I'm not an expert on Kanji so there is a possibility I got it wrong.
