Undertaker was, is, and forever will be my favorite wrestler. His character work and athleticism is just masterful. He truly is one of the all time greats.
He had the longest lasting gimmick out of any wrestler. The longest career by far, regardless of how many injuries he accrued. If you needed to put some life into the company, you just had the dead man feud with someone. Taker gave just as much as he received, never had an ego like some of the other greats. Truly lived for the business and helped pull it through tough times. Taker never jumped ship from WWE for any other company. Was so entertaining to watch, from his original run to the American Badass, back to his Dead man persona. Easily in the top 5 wrestlers of all time for me! Thank you Taker, for all the great memories!
What's so remarkable about The Undertaker's entrance is the consistency and the fact that everyone would be glued to the screen despite seeing it a hundred times. I remember seeing him at make HHH tap out at Wrestlemania 27, and though I don't watch wrestling anymore, those are some formative, core memories of my youth. Long live The Undertaker, perhaps the greatest to ever do it!
It’s a Generational thing. Cena was never my guy, but. He was in a house show in the Netherlands, in a TLC match, completely blew the litt of like it was Wrestlemania. His work with make a wish, his complete committement to the gimmick with the rapping and alienating him from his peers and legends to keep his believably selling himself. Is as impressive as Undertaker, never breaking Character. It’s both extreme level of commitment
@@114Riggs Hey, I'm not the biggest fan of Cena either, but that man did a lot for the WWE and even more for Make-A-Wish, which that's not only insane when think about the schedule he must have had over the last 20 years, but also insanely nice.
That’s a good point. Great point. Normally, whoever has the belt is Top Dog. But if they needed to teach the champ a tough lesson… throw him to Taker. Besides Andre, I don’t know if anyone had that kind of power.
Watching the persona of the Undertaker over the years and watching interviews with Mark post-retirement. No one committed to a gimmick like him. And being not only a constant in a 30 year career, but being seen as a locker room leader and just an all around good guy, no one will ever be able to live up to the legacy he created. Much respect
One additional quality that should be mentioned is his ability to adept to any style and any era, with as subtle or as radical changes to his gimmick as necessary. Other wrestler usually had one era in which they were great. Hogan and Warrior were cartoon era super heroes, Bret Hart led the New Generation era and Steve Austin fit the style of the Attitude era, but the Undertaker was equally great in all of them.
The undertaker the phenom perhaps the most symbolic, influential and most powerful pro-wrestler of all time. Only the undertaker made wrestling truly cinematic and thrilling with every time he stepped into the ring. Absolute legend. REST IN PEACE!!! Edit: the rock kicking the undertaker when he sits up is absolutely hilarious. I wet myself laughing. Only the rock could pull that off. 😂😂😂😂
I think something that contributes to the Undertaker's legacy is the number of times he got screwed out of certain victories (vs Michaels at HIAC and Casket Match, vs McMahon at Buried Alive, vs Mankind in the Boiler Room Brawl, vs Yokozuna in the Casket Match, vs Kane in HIAC, in the Elimination Chamber, etc. etc.). It made us all the more eager to see his inevitable return and vengeance (usually with a super-cool entrance to follow). There was a lot of trust put in the Undertaker character; that he could lose as consistently as he had to (whether for the business, or to take time off), but that he would still look good in doing so, and that the payoff would eventually follow. That's a part of why the Undertaker was, and still is, one of the greatest characters in modern professional wrestling.
They say the good guy (undertaker/neutral) has to lose some matches to be the hero or in some cases he could be considered a martyr. But he put so many wrestlers over by killing himself off such as JBL, Orton, Edge. He's the GOAT for sure

Yup, to me he is The GOAT and he's ahead everyone else by quite a distance. He was so convincing as a possessed dead man because of his dedication to his craft. Almost 30 years of living within the shadows, that will probably never be repeated again. The streak as well, one of the longest story lines in all entertainment. The Rock may be the biggest star, Austin may be the most explosive SOB, Hogan is the first star, But Taker was completely a different thing. He is the judge, jury and executioner in the wrestler's court for a reason. No one has ever said anything bad about him. Generations of wrestlers not only respects him, but openly admits to wishing they could have a fraction of his illustrious career. And you can't forget or not credit Jim Johnson who was a huge part of it all with that iconic theme song. The entrance is always brilliantly choreograph, it's just perfect. And in the ring? He is one of the greatest performer in the business no less. Being 7 feet tall and doing high flying moves (missile dives over top rope to outside the ring), walking on ropes, strength, agility, endurance, theatrics, persona and whatever else, you name it, he has it. Honestly there's just too many things to write to properly tell the story, the eye roll, neck slice with long tongue taunt, elemental controls (fog, darkness, lightning, fire), the cult gimmick (Ministry of Darkness)....seriously, I'm gonna have to spend few weeks to list it all so I'll stop here. All that is why I would place him in the highest throne. You just had to be there to really understand and feel it. If you grew up in the 1990s-2010s, you would understand it and be glad you saw the greatest performer in the greatest era. The Undertaker = The GOAT

As well as his matches, his promos, and everything else about him, I will really miss that opening bell tolling. It gives me goosebumps even after 30+ years watching WWE. I saw him live soon after his first face turn on a UK tour. He was facing Papa Shango in the semi main event (main was Bret Hart vs Yoko i think) and the moment that bell tolled, the f***ing roof came off the arena, the atmosphere in that arena was like nothing else I have ever experienced and seeing the guy close up, I was not prepared for the sheer scale of the man, and the character felt like he was another few feet taller than Mark is himself, an awesome moment I will never forget. I won't say there will never be another like him, but certainly not in my lifetime - I thought Bray Wyatt could have become something like taker, but he was taken from us too soon, I don't think there's been another character with the same poise, presence and mystique - Mankind and Bray (for me) came closest (at least from the perspective of guys who played with borderline otherworldly or near inhuman gimmicks, and Papa Shango - when you take into account the era that character existed in he was a pretty special character (well, to me at least lol), the curse of Papa Shango storyline with the Ultimate Warrior damned near gave me nightmares at the time, it was creepy AF - and that was in the era of repo men, clowns, spacemen, and trash collecters lol. Man, whatever iteration of his character that gets me hyped it also left me speechless. Taker is so monumentally incredible to see or see live, he's all around my favorite wrestlers since I first saw him as a 14 year old kid on television!
There will never be ANYTHING like The Undertaker ever again. I was at a friend's house one night, and WWE was on the television. The peal of that bell went off, and all you could hear from every room was, "Oh Shit!" People ran in from everywhere to watch. That sound was all it took. Legendary.
I am old enough to see the journey from Mean Mark, to the switch and introduction of the Undertaker. There are great Wrestlers throughout the years, but the longevity and the originality of the gimmick is the greatest of all time. I feel sorry for new fans over the last few years who will never experience and witness the different Era's as they happened and how the character evolved within them. Mark, I enjoyed EVERY single year from day one, and I thank you for you dedication, the commitment and the respect you gave all the fans on every performance. Enjoy your retirement, you kind sir have earned it.
Simply the best, my all time hero and favourite. Fan since I first saw him in 95 or so when I was 5. I cried like a little child when the streak ended, although I was 24 at this time, and did so again when he retired and during all of his HoF speech, being over 30. He simply has been there and entertained me my entire life! And every single time those bell starts ringing and the lights go out I get goosebumps and excited like a small child at christmas. LEGEND!
Mark breathed life into the Undertaker because he always stayed in character and always cared for him outside the ring at fan meetings etc. It is/was important to him to give fans the character they love. And there is also a piece of Mark in Undertaker. I have respect for both of them. The character Undertaker and Mark, the person behind the character.
The fact what sold the character more is that Taker maintained Kayfabe till the time he hanged up his boots. Hardly appeared in public, seldom gave interviews without his in ring persona. He was fully committed to his character. That's hardly the case with anybody today. MJF might be the only exception. Don't believe in wrestling but believe in me.
The jumping tombstone piledriver to whom I’m assuming is Shawn Michaels into the casket is a wow moment I don’t recall ever seeing! That was a crazy visual.
Ok taker ran like 3 decades hes the goat of all time the thing is hogan Austin cena and now Roman run their expected eras michaels was never the face of any of any era as good as he was taker was always there sadly he was never the face of any era
I get it why you don't think cena is greatest,,he may not be most in ring talented but interms of charisma and longevity in business cena is the goat,,,we all love Taker
It was the confidence he had that pushed his character to legendary status. When that bell hit and he walked out he believed his character which made us believe even after kayfabe
The first time i saw him was in Wrestlemania 23. I was a fan of Batista but somehow i knew he could beat him. Then when Taker won the WHC i love his style a lot. Truly one of those wrestlers than i don't believe we'll see again.
The Undertaker was my favourite wrestler of all time from his first appearance to his last, I am and will always be one of his creatures of the night. There will never be anyone like the Undertaker ever again or as good as the Undertaker, he was a one off and a true legend of the wrestling ring and world. Rest in Peace 💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴💙💛🇺🇦🇺🇦⚰⚰
The Undertaker was my favorite wrestler from the first time I ever saw him, all the way through to today, retired or not. I just don't see anyone surpassing him in my eyes. The guy is an absolute legend in the business. From the ring to backstage, he left a mark on the industry that will never fade. His character, his catch phrases and promos, his moves, about him is iconic. He's the GOAT and always will be.
Greatest gimmick of all time. And that gong is undeniable. When i hear it, I stop what I'm doing to this day. Not to mention one of the best in ring there ever was.
man I remember seeing the first taker match all the way to seeing his final, while at first I wasn't totally into him, it didn't take long for me to anticipate the next pay per view that had him in it, and each were amazing to see with great stories
*"Wow! Look at the size of that!!"-* "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. And I shared that sentiment when I watched Brother Love introduced the Undertaker for the first time in Survivor Series 1990. I remember seeing it at the time. 🐐
I was 8 yrs old when saw my first ever PPV and it was for WM 20 . To this date it was the only one too. Soley of the fact it was the return of Undertaker. And p.s i was a rocl fan before he went to Hollywood and just recently i found out he was on that same Wrestlemania lol and it completely slipped my mind 😅 just shows how much Undertaker meant to me ❤
Why fo these old wwf and early 00's wwe videos get me frrling emotional? Literally got a lump in my throat and small tear in my eye ehenever i watch them lol.
HANDS DOWN, the GREATEST character of all-time. The fact that he took a cartoon gimmick (that many thought wouldn’t last more than about 4/5 yrs) and literally stood the test of time, truly speaks volumes to Taker’s dedication and passion for the sport. NO ONE comes close. His entrance is an entire production, and no one else has that. The effects from the purple lights, the smoke, the pyro, the gong and theme, Taker’s mannerisms, etc.; just all meshed so well. A lot of his earlier matches were meh, but now I understand why after he stated that he focused more so on building the character rather than having a 5 star match. He’s like a bottle of fine wine, only got better over time. We got several gimmick matches built around his character and his character even spawned another successful character in Kane. He’s the 🐐.
I loved the entrance because it always caused "anxiety" to the other wrestlers. Orton once said that even though he was confident in what the match would be you cant help but feel nervousness and awe when he does that slow walk down the ramp. His best entrances were the entrances with the druids. If they came out you never knew if the entrance was going to be really drawn out or if they were just sending a message to his prey. His character is the best character of all time. Only bad thing i have to say about taker is his promos always seemed lacking specially anything ABA and prior. Once he got rid of the ABA gimmick his promos got better and you could tell he was more comfortable with talking.
How this man kept the persona going for years with all the supernatural aspects and seriousness of never abandoning the character's personality is amazing
While there is no denying how great Undertaker is, everyone needs to remember that if all the other wrestlers did not sell it, it wouldn't work. Always get a chill when you hear that gong.
Undertaker is the one and only GOAT. His appearance, charisma, longevity, the streak that was only broken few years ago by Brock Lesnar, his entrance and the dead man theme music and portrayal of the undertaker character make him the GOAT for me. when did John Cena joined the company. John is arguably one of the best ever in WWE but the undertaker is the one and only GOAT of WWE.
Taker vs Michaels career vs streak is the greatest wrestling match of all time. There's few matches that come close not only to the story, stakes and performances, but the delivery of it as well. It was a masterpiece and it still is. I think Omega vs Ospreay at Wrestlekingdom is the best recent match I've seen but even it doesn't reach the levels of that match. Taker truly was a one in one gift for wrestling.
Love the content you create on this channel. Gives me nostalgia and information and you touch on a wide ranging set of histories and character developments, keep up the wonderful work!
Wrestling flashbacks videos are always literally the best. By far the most entertaining and attention grabbing out of the whole RUclips wrestling genre imo
One thing I've always noticed, and which shows just how much of a respectful gentleman The Undertaker is, when he tombstones Vickie Guerrero at 19:11 is how much lower he has her so that his head is plenty far away from her... uh, "personal space"
No one had ever seen anything like this before. Mark Calloway has always had a different personality like the other wrestlers. Even when he was Mean Mark Callous or Master Of Pain you just knew it was him. Mark could make anything work. He is just so ahead of everyone else.
The undertaker was great. I'm still to this day unsure if everyone he faced was just genuinely horrified of him or if it was just a act to prop up the character. But it really was watching people panic when they heard that gong that sold how powerful the undertaker was. Over the years i decided it was probably both.
I think the most impressive part is he not only survived every era he survived a weird gimmick change that lasted years and then survived ANOTHER gimmick change back to his old character while still keeping elements of the previous one
When i got interested into Wrestling i learned about Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan and many many more over time. But one character hooked me from the beginning and that was of course the Undertaker.😂❤
Undertaker had it all, amazing gimmick/character, fantastic theatrical entrances, incredible in ring wrestling, awesome promo skills, AND he is universally loved and respected by his peers in the locker room. He is truly the total package and the best that will ever be.
I remeber being there at wrestlemania 25 watch the deadman and hbk for 1 hour duke it out non stop finisher after finisher i dont even remeber the rest of the event thats how amazing he was
I remember the first time The Undertaker walked out to the ring, I was 11 years old and I was supposed to go Skateboarding with a friend but it started to rain so I turned on TV and WWF was on the that was the moment The Undertaker walked. I was blown away like "Who it this guy, he's scary" he did the Tombstone and that's when I was hooked. Been a Undertaker fan at that moment.

He was fully committed to his character. That's hardly the case with anybody today. MJF might be the only exception. Don't believe in wrestling but believe in me.
No other wrestler will ever equal his dominance of 30 years in the Wwe
Even the referees being scared of taker was such a nice touch lol
The jumping tombstone piledriver to whom I’m assuming is Shawn Michaels into the casket is a wow moment I don’t recall ever seeing! That was a crazy visual.
Nothing, literally nothing from any wrestler, is as legendary as the Undertaker situps
Agreed
my favorite of all time. was watching when he started as a kid and never stopped.
I dont get why john cena is called the GOAT. I believe taker, stone cold and even michaels are just better in my opinion.
Ok taker ran like 3 decades hes the goat of all time the thing is hogan Austin cena and now Roman run their expected eras michaels was never the face of any of any era as good as he was taker was always there sadly he was never the face of any era
Cena is not even the best of his own generation. Orton is.
Like for real anytime I hear an announcer say "THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME JOHN CENA" it just pieces me off🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬😡😡😡😡😡
I get it why you don't think cena is greatest,,he may not be most in ring talented but interms of charisma and longevity in business cena is the goat,,,we all love Taker
Cena is one of the goats
It was the confidence he had that pushed his character to legendary status. When that bell hit and he walked out he believed his character which made us believe even after kayfabe
The amount of achievement, Legendary matches and moments that this man gave us, Is truly something to be admired of. Legend.
The first time i saw him was in Wrestlemania 23. I was a fan of Batista but somehow i knew he could beat him. Then when Taker won the WHC i love his style a lot.
Truly one of those wrestlers than i don't believe we'll see again.
His supernatural rivalry with Kane is so underrated. It so far ahead of WCW at the time!
The Ring will always and forever be THE DEADMANS YARD UNDERTAKER IS A LEGEND. MUCH LOVE and RESPECT to you BADASS.❤
He was the reason I started watching WWE- He was and is Wrestling- THANK YOU, Taker
Undertaker has literally been in every era from the Golden Era to this Era. He is truly the G.O.A.T
Reminded me why he was my favorite since I was 4 like the dim blue light, and that slow walk up the entrance gave me memories throughout my childhood
The way Justin Roberts announced Undertaker was epic. Only second to Finkle.
Greatest gimmick of all time. And that gong is undeniable. When i hear it, I stop what I'm doing to this day. Not to mention one of the best in ring there ever was.
The Undertaker character was able to evolve. He went from The Deadman to the Lord of Darkness to The American Badass.
And then managed to merge all 3 into 1. No one carried a character like Mark Callaway
Nobody could have taken the undertaker character and make the transition like Mark Calaway ⚱️
@@WIBYTIEDH Exactly
Don't forget Big Evil
@@jaysonraphaelmurdock8812 That too was a great gimmick of The Undertaker.
man I remember seeing the first taker match all the way to seeing his final, while at first I wasn't totally into him, it didn't take long for me to anticipate the next pay per view that had him in it, and each were amazing to see with great stories
Taker is the bridge to a gen past nd Present
[Only retired a few short years]
Multiple Era WWF , NEW Gen ATTITUDE, Aggression ,
WWE/Universe
*"Wow! Look at the size of that!!"-* "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. And I shared that sentiment when I watched Brother Love introduced the Undertaker for the first time in Survivor Series 1990. I remember seeing it at the time. 🐐
I swear every time I hear that gong I feel like I'm 8 years old again first time seeing the undertaker scared s***less but was excited.
Yes , I share that same experience! 😅😁
I was 8 yrs old when saw my first ever PPV and it was for WM 20 . To this date it was the only one too. Soley of the fact it was the return of Undertaker. And p.s i was a rocl fan before he went to Hollywood and just recently i found out he was on that same Wrestlemania lol and it completely slipped my mind 😅 just shows how much Undertaker meant to me ❤
Undertaker was the best on tv. He's definitely my favorite wrestler for the moments he created.
I love the rock counter to undertaker rise up 😂😂😂😂
16:25 the mocking expression on the face of the Undertaker is so hilarious.
He’s the 🐐.
I Couldn't Agree More 💯💯💯
Fact
The final boss of wrestling, the legendary, Undertaker. The look on other wrestlers faces after he kicks out then sits up. Priceless
Thanks for the memories, Undertaker!
He was my favourite from the start till the end he was amazing
Love the content you create on this channel. Gives me nostalgia and information and you touch on a wide ranging set of histories and character developments, keep up the wonderful work!
I was just checking your channel for a video on the undertaker a few days ago and here it is now wow
Deffo no 1 was this guy, hairs on the back of my neck rose when he was introduced. A1 entertainer💯🥇👍
Wrestling flashbacks videos are always literally the best. By far the most entertaining and attention grabbing out of the whole RUclips wrestling genre imo
that 18:13 jump made my heart stopped for a moment
L E G E N D! WWE will never be the same without him.
I am and have been the reaper of wayward souls for a long time.
is the best undertaker quote.
The crowd going insane whenever he appears is the best bit.
9:44 what an incredible shot of the Undertaker.
I love the entrance and standing behind you
I think the most impressive part is he not only survived every era he survived a weird gimmick change that lasted years and then survived ANOTHER gimmick change back to his old character while still keeping elements of the previous one
My favorite since I first saw him in 1990! I was 10.
When i got interested into Wrestling i learned about Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan and many many more over time. But one character hooked me from the beginning and that was of course the Undertaker.😂❤
He's absolutely beautiful and I love watching him every time he's on!! REST IN PEACE!!⚰️⚰️⚰️
Undertaker had it all, amazing gimmick/character, fantastic theatrical entrances, incredible in ring wrestling, awesome promo skills, AND he is universally loved and respected by his peers in the locker room. He is truly the total package and the best that will ever be.
Amazing video, I think it’s a crime Undertaker v Mankind never happened at WrestleMania
Watching someone of his size clear those top ropes to go out of the ring was always impressive to watch.
The character that ushered in the Era of Dark gimmicks in wrestling.
I couldnt do what undertaker did for 3 decades but i gotta give my respect big cena fan but hell takers one hell of a man long live the undertaker
Underthaker e secondo mè il più grande wrestler❤❤❤
5:12 ref got outta there clean😂
Taker is the Goat! The Hitman will always be my #1 but the Deadman's legacy and career can't be argued against.
I'm so thankful for everything the taker has done. Absolutely goated.
The eye roll was a super cool added touch.
Truly the greatest sports entertainer of all time.
5:15 Probably the smartest thing he'll do tonight low-key sounded like an insult 😅
He is the last man standing ❤
