Julien and I were about to Uber over to the last day of Miami World Summit, and we were like.... we gotta get a video on South Beach and Ocean Avenue before we leave town. So shot this with just a few minutes to spare. Some fans we met on the street actually held up a bunch of cell phone flashlights to help us shoot it (thanks guys!). We were so rushed that we knew it would have an intense vibe, so made it like an "addiction intervention video". I was shocked to see how colorful Ocean Avenue can look in a video, really great place to shoot. There's a bunch of videos from Miami Summit coming on this channel soon as well - the next ones will features Julien, Max, Luke and myself going over some really intense self help topics. Hope you enjoyed this one and those ones to come! Julien thanks for having me on your channel! -Tyler

So does just "becoming aware" solve the addiction? Arent addicts aware they are addicts? Scientifically, it sounds like repetition compulsion as discovered by Sigmund Freud.

Being able to recognize and admit whether you're addicted to negativity itself is half the process. Most people simply can't do it because ego takes over. Well said

  • @JeremyBec
    @JeremyBec 6 лет назад +1

In addition to this I remember watching a video from David. R Hawkins who tells us that everytime we feel stuck in any situation it means we have to let go of the secret pay off we get from this situation who's bothering us. As Eckhart Tolle said, the ego feeds on negativity to regenerate itself otherwise it can't live. I realized that in many situations to which I really wanted fixed I actually didn't want them to be fixed secretly because it was a constant stream of negativity I could plunge into to get my daily dose of negativity. The ego is really dysfonctional and it's scary to see that we feed this parasite constantly through different means. And as you said it takes a huge amount of courage and ask to become more conscious to see it happen. I also know many people who really could use it.

One of the most profound, if not the most profound, realizations that I had was that any emotion that we feel (even if it's the most "painful negative emotion") is exactly the emotion that, subconsciously, we HIGHLY BELIEVE we SHOULD BE FEELING in that moment, or else...
For instance, if we're "worrying" about some upcoming event in our lives, we subconsciously believe that if we stopped worrying and overthinking and instead just became happy, that we would not be adequately preparing ourselves for the upcoming event and then we would be far more afraid, because we believe it would fuck us up while we're not ready.
So, worrying in this case is a way for us to "minimize" the deep fear that we have and to "prepare ourselves" for "the battle".
A great question whenever we feel something that's weighing us down is: "What if I just decided that I'm not gonna feel this way anymore?" and usually, a deeper, more intense feeling will come to the surface.
And that's a great way to catch it and release it forever. :)
P.S. Like all the other videos, this one was an amazing one as well :)

Thank you for all the teachings so far. The reason I think we all get the mind going is because no mind is judged to be scary, something like death and extremely empty-feeling.
Atleast I thought so, I am in groundhog day of being broke, alone and in a desolation kind of reality where everything I touch turns to dust and there are no women around when I try to sarge. I read the Dr.Hawkins book and realized my external is reflecting my internal state of deep emptiness. I dove in today, Its actually a peaceful and joyful place in reality. I am consumed by desire and approval seeking because I thought getting what I desired would save me from the desolation.
One point you can touch on in future videos is thinking is just a stuck feeling trying to rationalize its presence
I just understood the Letting go process a few days ago.
    Thank you Julien for TM.

Thank you so much for this. I'm only 22 but I've been struggling with negative thinking and depression for a long time and what both of you said in this video really made something click in my brain.
If our pain body criticizes us. We react internally. We react with justifications. The pain body likes to poke you with a negative feeling JUST for the hell of it. It doesn't care about the reasons you give it. It just wants you to respond. (Eg - hahaha that girl rejected you (pain body creates negative emotion) .. you immediately respond internally by saying "Grrr, she doesn't deserve me, she's a slut, who needs her. She's worthless.) The pain body doesn't care what you say as long as you TRY TO JUSTIFY. That makes the pain body laugh at you each time.
This same approach gets transferred in the external manifestation of our life. If someone jabs us, with or without malicious intent, it makes us want to JUSTIFY ourselves immediately. We become reactive. Think of that annoying person at work or school who just says shit to get you to respond and defend yourself. If you genuinely ignore them, they get demoralised and leave you alone. But if they sense you're the reactive type and IF you react very defensively to a snarky comment they make they get delighted and think "haha I made him respond! I should keep doing this. Its fun"
By reacting to comments, we become emotional and FEED the existing pain body within us (i.e. why did he say that mean thing about me? Let me find a way to think and justify this) This results in a continuous cycle of feeding the negativity within, believing in it and then confirming it when the external environment presents the SAME scenario (i.e. snarky comment) and we respond the same way.
Point is, condition yourself to stop being reactive to the pain body within that propels us into negative thought patterns, justifications and endless overthinking. This would undoubtedly have a positive external manifestation in life overall. If you aren't reactive inwardly, you won't be reactive outwardly.
    I hope this helps.

Funny I thought i had overcome negative thinking but this video made me realise that it had just taken on a new form. I got rid of one thought loop, and i was much happier for time, but a new thought loop crept up on me. I realised recently how toxic some of my friends are - I saw it as an opportunity to improve my life and i was excited, but I also started dwelling on all the lost time and opportunities over the past years, and this negative thought loop became the dominant one and actually sabotaged my ability to make new friends. So I guess I'm still addicted. Thanks for the video guys, it brokr the spell.

  • @mgainer068

When you can laugh at the negativity and see the joke of it all that’s when you can level up and really make something of yourself. There is really no reason to “not be negative”. We have literally no way not to be negative with all the shit that’s thrown at us on a daily basis. But with that knowledge and awareness you can recognize that the mainstream media is feeding off of our addictions and using it to profit themselves because they also have addictions for things like greed, money, power, respect, status etc. The only real way to succeed today is to live in PRESENCE and too stay focused on cultivating greater levels of PEACE, HAPPINESS and FREEDOM. Owen and Julien are playing on a different level, but they are teaching you how to get there too with all the potent and REAL CONTENT they release. Learn from what they are teaching and what’s way more important than learning it, is TESTING IT IN YOUR OWN LIFE. Just some thoughts I got from the video! Thanks RSD! You guys changed my life.

This is way to master mind , by allowing old patterns to be instead fight against it or saying it's true . Present moment can happen only when you surrender to all that it is , it's scary cause all of what you thought about yourself suffering and good parts also disolves . You want to save good parts but that can not happen if you surrender to present moment , reality is totally different from our experience in ego . Anyway this is very very helpful and great stepping stone for being in charge of your own life experience . Thanks guys I learn a lot from you , more and more every video

It’s like a cycle. I’m consistent working on accepting my imperfections and learning my true self. Hopefully the results come where I can stay in flow and presence with consistence

Albert every morning when you wake up evaluate how motivated you feel and try to identify the things (if any) that de-motivated you in the first place. Then slowly but surely cut those things out of your life. Rob Dyrdrek said that, and since practicing it myself it has helped me tremendously. It helps you regain control when you feel like you have none.

    • @albert6006
      @albert6006 6 лет назад

bjbdbz the Rob Dyrdek Impact Theory interview is great. I guess what de-motivates me is my inability to take action in "uncomfortable" circumstances, as well as not fostering enough self-acceptance. I'm showing improvement in both regards but the process is slow, and sometimes I grow impatient. If you don't mind sharing, what been some of your findings when you do the motivational morning exercise?

This video made me second guess who I was for a moment, but upon further analysis discovering that there will always be a certain amount of negativity in ones life no matter how great of a person you become. You just have to embrace and understand it when it becomes apparent to you, it goes in levels, its how we grow.

This topic of thinking vs being present is very interesting. Since I started meditating, becoming present in social situations, I started to exhibit a bit more confidence and positive mood (not much, but the spark is there).
However, my work involves a lot of thinking and thinking is good when learning skills, planning life/business goals. It all comes back to balance: balance thoughts and being in your head with being present and taking action.

  • @vikingswimmer82

Great video! @ 16:25, Just wanted to say something, at least in the case of ADD/ADHD, I would guess that drugs like cocaine DO make people more present to the moment. In my case, having ADD, I take a controlled stimulant with a chemical structure similar to cocaine, (or even coffee for that matter) and it helps to relax my anxiety which makes me more present to the moment. In fact, in all my experiences, I would say that one of the principal things that helps me to relax is coming present to the moment via an increase in dopamine levels.
    What increases Dopamine levels?
In some therapies (Like ACT), drug and other addictions are reasoned with the addict to serve as pathways to the same good emotions that come about normally from healthy habits like eating healthy, exercising and socializing. This is meant to show the addict that they don't have to be addicted to the exact substance and perhaps through some therapy and working with inner blocks like Trauma they can come to appreciate those more healthy habits more.
I think Tyler probably already knows this, I think he just got a little lost with his words for a moment. In my opinion, what it is about addictions that are debilitating is not totally the high they produce, which I believe can be called a genuine experience (and also the kinds of experiences that we all long for), but rather is the loss of the ability to be in control of oneself. From Gabor Mate's "Realm of the Hungry Ghosts" he actually talks about how, in a way, addicts brains become so habituated and wired from & to the drugs that they are literally no longer in control of themselves.
This is consistent with Buddhist Philosophy, in that in one of the ways that we suffer by being born in Samsara is caused when our craving for pleasure becomes so intense that it creates karmic conditions where we are literally "psychologically reborn" in a hungry ghost realm. We would still have a human body, but our mind would be in a state of constant craving. A simplistic way to understand it would be to say that if we were to die at that moment, we would be reborn as a hungry ghost.
It seems that it would follow then that an individual would be chained to that particular existence until their karma was exhausted or improved which is evidently very hard to do when one is a hungry ghost or a human with an addiction as those existences, by their nature, tend to perpetuate themselves. Buddhism emphasizes the preciousness of human birth that is "free and well favored" in that as humans we can make decisions that effect our karma positively. For example, we can engage in virtues like generosity, discipline, patience, exertion, meditation & wisdom. We can also rest in unbiased equanimity free from karma which maybe I can say is an expression of the virtue of Wisdom.
I like how Tyler talks about being present to the moment- it seems very pithy-in Tantra, we talk about becoming present to the moment, and then radiating outwards which I see in RSD's general vibe and I appreciate. I also notice how this is facilitated by sexual and intimate exchange-in the words of David Deida-expressing the masculine as "depth & presence of consciousness", and appreciating the "radiance & flow" of the feminine.
Great video, these are just a few thoughts I wanted to share to add some value and context to what was being discussed.

The key thing to realise as soon as possible in life is that truth hurts and all the stuff you've been teased or shamed for are probably true because if they aren't you wouldn't care, so instead to fight those things, you have to OWN THEM and you'll know you own them when you will laugh sincerely at them, at your self for being such way, like it's the best comedy movie you've ever seen, because if it's true and you acknowledge it, it's funny how it's true, and if it's not, it's funny how one could think that. OWN IT!

Good video I will fight my addictions with positive habits.

i was high af watching this but i can be present and out of my head when sober too :P also i think negative thoughts can stem from the environment and whatever 'conditioning' you may have. Its night and day going from negative to positive thoughts and then it looks super weird when you see someone saying something negative! It's like 'they just don't get it'. Anyone else had this revelation?

What about being addicted to positivity? Is it healthier or just makes you even more delusional?

Thing is you ... have to be addicted not to positivity, but to contentment. This doesn't mean you shouldn't be ambicious though

I don't know if it's healthier, but it's really similar to being addicted to negativity, because most often than not you are not being present.

I was taught in TC (Theraputic Community) not to "brown bag it" which is carrying over past problems into now. I now realize any acknowledgement of past that does not serve me now, is a wasted trauma emotion I put MYSELF through all to feel justified victim, and thats backward and accomplishes me nothing, im going to limit myself to venting frustrations more discreetly if just once, because despite being a private entity i think the people know how i feel, they just don't dare admit they had the ability to check all along

So I understand what you talk about. And I could nod to that I have patterns of recuring negative behaviour or thoughts.
But more than that. Like I truly think that from I wake up til I go to bed I am somewhat say 80% thinking different negative stuff. So my ego runs me, and depression and anxiety stops me from pursuing things that I want, I'm conscious about that.
So how do I help myself? Everything I do or think is based on fears and stuff that aren't authentic to me.
It's hard to describe but what needs to be done when you know all most every part of my life is an issue. Where do I start. And what is even the practice to stop living this negative..
    So much confusion

I have been addicted to a number of things, and I have mostly sorted all the negative ones out. But I disagree (at the moment) on the ground hog day thing where you said you feel tired can't be bothered at work, same sht everyday etc. I run every morning, and when I get to work I feel fresh, but after lunch around 3PM I start to feel really tired, but when I get home I feel good and go for another run. I think I get tired because I have a boring and repetitive job. I also thought I was never cut out to be a office worker. Which is why I have started a 'side hustle' so that I can get out of the office and do the shit I really want to do.

I had no resistance, I love your ideas because I agree, is it was weird not resisting as you spoke about resisting, but then I started thinking 'oh shit I already got past this phase of living here, experiencing happiness' the problem I am concerned about now is the addiction to fun, when have I let the fun become a negative addiction, how to I know when it is too far? I am in love, I am a romantic, 'most girls are boring, I like to have just one at a time, a solid one....'am I addicted to her/them?'.../ on the other hand when I neglect her and drink, 'am I addicted to going out(fun)?'. how do I stop this cycle, 'How do I break free of the chains my emotions have have created". My heart is treacheries too my mind. Don't get me wrong, I understand the Hustle, I use hustle for myself though, monetary and fitness wise, loving and caring wise.
For this reason I question some of the things you do, but agree with the mindset. but Tyler, let me ask you, where do you place your love?..., I believe, for you, it is in others; friends and fans, right? but is it selfish for you to only place it in yourself? Or is it selfish to only place it in one person that supports you...it is hard to ask this question bc/ its so vague, but here it goes.. "how do you balance dependability on other things with loving yourself, is it selfish, is it possible to do? I believe so but I do not know how? how do I love myself when hate to be so selfish, my morals tell me its okay to be selfish but my nature does not like it, are we all this way in one form or another? Bc/ no man will ever be exactly like the next one in this sense, but in another sense we all all just containers of matter floating in a space not built by us. AND if you really don't believe in God..think about that long enough and you will. And then, maybeeee, you will discover that this struggle to find our 'personnel legend, its truly different for us all. Then can we truly listen to our heart instead of ignore it, accept its feelings and thoughts, it will never betray the mind that way...I hope...
"How do I get there?" must be the next question, "how do I find my Personal Legend", 'will it come with more wealth?", doubt it!! I have enough, "will it come with more women?", nahhh. OHHH shit I just figured it out, I need to find passion. shitttt Tyler...I answered my own question, Thanks bro..you really helped. what a minute, I still don't know how to get there, fuckkkk....ima go to bed think about this later! ;)

What if you know you're an addict but still not how to stop? I've started reading the Power of Now but when I've quieted my mind it feels kind of like I'm going to sleep, avoiding my problems by temporarily forgetting them, which I imagine is opposite of becoming aware.
