I was thinking the same thing. It could have been minimized down to just two methods: heat, or paint thinner/acetone. And after what his results were with the acetone, I’ll use my heat gun too.
Boiling tires works pretty good, my method is almost as you did with your blow dryer. Let one side of the bead boil. Don’t squeeze the tire, which will cause water to be sucked into the foam. Let the water do the work, boiling from the outside. Another thing is, my wife let me use the big lobster boiling pot, that way you can boil all tires at one time . Once you get one bead unseated, flip them and throw them back in. For a set of four tires it took us about 30 minutes . Boiling will discolor your wheels if they are chrome and has a tendency to ruin the foams. The way I do it I wrap the wheel/tire assembly in foil like a baked potato. Preheat your oven to 300 then turn off. Place your wrapped tires in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and pop the tires off the wheels. Doesn't damage the wheels, tires or foams. Wrapping in foil helps hold the heat in as compared to just laying an open wheel/tire on a sheet of foil.
What is good about this video is the Traxxas tire that comes with the cars is a very good tire. I used a heat gun and I rotate it until the rim starts to smoke. Then I get something to poke at the edge and it comes right off. 👌🏽

The best Acetone method is to use a 5 gallon pail with a lid. Put the tires in the pail and in the center of the pail, put in a glass of Acetone (don't soak the tires in it). The fumes from the Acetone do a much better job than actually putting the tires in the Acetone. Leave it overnight and the next day, they come off much easier and with the least amount of damage. Though, there is glue residue on both the wheel and tire. Just need to bend the bead around and flick the glue off (if you want).

After that can we use the tyre again?
I want to change the foam not the tyre
thanks for sharing bro. the boiling method isnt just dangerous, it doesnt work most of the time! boiled dboots katars for 30mins - does NOT come unglued! just buy new wheels!!
The oved method made some bad fumes, felt lightheaded for a bit 😬
Soaked my Tamiya rims in acetone for 3 days, the tyres were fine bit the rims had distorted and were unusable.
wizardwithguns I heard you don’t actually put the tires in the acetone. Put them on rocks.
Got to have this video in the arsenal..! Killer.! Well done.! Had no idea that you can just use heat..! Sure it's a pain in the ass, but it works.! BTW, I was screaming at the TV as u were pulling the wheel out of the boiling water.. LOL.!
There's those times in life when 1 second after doing something we realize what an idiot we are. Squeezing a tire full of boiling water is one of those moments. lol Thanks for watching!
I am with you, brother..! I am with you...
What about a heat gun as opposed to hair dryer?
Awesome thank you
As a newbie Why do this in the first place? I mean if this is what customers WANT why don't they ship em out like this? Didnt old rc cars have easily removable tires???
So what keeps the wheels from melting from the heat and acetone?
Did the baking method stink the house up
Awesome! Thanks for doing all that research and sharing it.
I'm new to RC, so I hope you don't mind a question. What is the best way to re-glue the tires to the rim? That is, if you glue them. If so, what type of glue? Thanks!
Hey Tony glad you stopped by! The best glue to use is a thin CA.
What if its on chrome wheels? These methods will ruin the tire?
NC MOUNTAINS ❤. Really nice video.. . 👌!!👍👍......
Hey brother been seeing ya comment on here. I'm on Beech Mountain NC. We should get together and go crawling some time. Oh and check out my channel if you get some time. See ya in the comments.
Thats one hell of a hair dryer
Pretty good video:)
how does those methods work w/ plastic rims?
I want to reuse my plastic rims and they have a colored bead printed on it, if i use the baking method does the paint come off in any way or it'll stay?
steam from an iron worked great
You can freeze them as well, then smack em with a hammer enough to break the super glue. But a real heat gun is the best bet.
The acetone method needs to soak for 24 hours and it comes right off
Just realized the back round is rc scale lmao 😂
So trying acetone got one to come apart quick but having trouble with number 2 I was holding up out of acetone I had heard that that worked but now I have idea I will update later
what about steaming with lid closed above water .
I just tried the oven method and it jacked up my rims.. 350 degrees at 7 mins I heard a pop noise
I also tried the acetone to remove the tires, pain in the butt and took me three days for 2 tires💀💀💀💀💀💀🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
@@TandemCTelevision so true , watching you do it , you made it look so easy🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆💀💀💀💀💀
The power of editing, I burnt the hell out of my fingers. lol
Interested to see what the next episode is on.
Good video. I run all my tires with no vents so that h2o doesn't get inside of my tires. Can you tell if the methods you liked the best can lock out the h2o from touching the foams?
I think baking worked the best, the foams stay nice and dry.
Only baking it heatgun.. Then no liquids involved.. You can put acetone in a cup then put that in the bottom center of bucket..add the tires carefully so they sit above the cup so only the fumes will work the glue loose then shit the lid on the bucket air tight and let them sit for a day or more and they will come off by themselves, and no acetone liquid will hit your foams..
H20 in my tires is my reason
3 days soak in acetone! Tyres come off the wheel without any effort!
