We had a 90 dodge dynasty, fully loaded with the V6!! Had it for over 14 years and gave it to our 18 year old nephew who promptly drove it into a telephone pole a couple of months later!! They were so comfortable and my wife loved driving it on long trips!! Loved the style for that time !! Mechanic told me that for the dodge dynasty the motors were bought from Mitsubishi motors !! They lasted a long time , the only thing we had to have done was rebuild the transmission at around 130 k !!! Thanks for the memories, great video!!

While they are K-derivatives, they are greatly improved and strengthened in structure - the post-A(AA) bodies (think 89-90+) are (dare I say) well-built. Lower-front control arms went from stamped steel with a stub, to dual-hinged cast aluminum, minimizing or eliminating caster changes - the wheels stayed put - not moving backward under-center while braking. They are good. The 3.3/3.8 are FANTASTIC pushrod engines. They do not die. They are not Mitsus. The **only weak point is the a604's - which, are easy and cheap enough to rebuild in your garage with stronger hard-parts.

You seriously underrate this car. I had 6 NY 5th's (1 R body, 3 M's, 1 Dynasty-based NY Landau and 1 just like this one in charcoal grey. Loved them all. This K-based generation was a very well-tailored car in and out and did have quality materials that held up very well over time. They were extremely comfortable & roomy with all the high-line toys offered at the time. If you look at the late 80's to early 90's Olds 98, Buick Park Ave, Cadillac DeVille or Pontiac Bonneville of the same era (which were all kinda fluffed up versions of the Olds Ciera or Buick Century), these had them bested by a mile in my opinion.

"Old guys like that stuff...". I'd read somewhere that this was exactly what Iacocca said about these cars. When this was new, I'd have had little to no interest. Since I'd have been game for a Electra T-Type or Park Avenue Ultra, it boils down to a matter of styling language.
But its appeal went beyond old guys, apparently. During one of my ill-advised attempts to sell cars for a living, a young couple (meaning younger than I was and I hadn't reached 30) came in with a blue New Yorker Fifth Avenue. They wanted to buy the car, which was leased to the Admiral he was driving for, at the end of the lease. There were reasons that we couldn't pull this off, his lack of credit history being the least of them.
Great to see you back at it!

The K platform was genius. It was simple yet endlessly expandable, shrinkable, able to be widened, heightened and with tweeks like sway bars, various set ups of spring rates, shocks etc. it could be anything. This car has the same bones as the Daytona which is amazing. I own a 1990 Daytona and I love it. I have owned a 1985 Laser (same K platform), 1988 Dodge Dynasty, 1990 Plymouth Sundance, 1991 Plymouth Voyager with that same 3,3L V6, all on different incarnations of the K platform. That platform could literally do anything including all wheel drive. There hasn't been anything like it since except *maybe* the Mercedes platform that underpinned everything from the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, Dodge Charger, Challenger, Chrysler 300 and all with the option of AMD. That New Yorker is a gorgeous car.

I feel like this car came with an AARP application, a Dinners Club card, and a 401k withdrawal form from Chrysler new. Maybe throw in a boater hat as a promotional giveaway

My Grandfathers Last Car. He loved his. He had the generation before it also with a 318. He was a Chrysler man for his whole life.

I can just imagine Bill giving a toast at a wedding….”I don’t know why they’ve asked me to speak, I don’t even particularly like them…” 😂
Also, the Gilligan's Island references never get old.

“The groom is the second worse person in the world, and I think I slept with the bride once in high school”….would be what I would expect to hear in his toast.

First time going to the USA in the 80s (to Florida) my Dad rented a Dodge Dynasty - for a kid from the UK that car was incredible and so was the USA!

I'll give Chrysler this much- they created a product better than a Cimarron.

I guess these were not a bad vehicle. I’m personally not a fan of these stretched K cars. I did own several K cars back in the day and got good service from them. I always liked the New Yorkers from the 60s and 70s.

You guys know they recently “scrubbed” the whole Internet for the Diff’rent Strokes episode titled, “the bicycle man, part 1 and 2?”

My good bud in high school had one of these. It was his first car, a 1991. It was the boxier styling. Which imo, was more tasteful than the smoothing out they did here. His also had the wire wheel covers which look much better than those Lebaron style alloys.
I want to say his had the 3.8. It was white with the burgundy interior. We put a pretty bad ass stereo system in it.

I bought a 1990 New Yorker Landau back when it was almost new. I mostly agree with what Bill says here. Even though it floated down the Boulevard like a dream, it definitely wasn't a true American luxury car. Aside from that, the reliability issues I experienced made the car a genuine nightmare to own, so the local towing company got to know me on a first name basis. There's little wonder you don't see many of these around anymore. They were something of a nothingburger in every sense of the term.

That thing is gorgeous. It still has the square 80s look with softened corners. It works for me.
The blue looks just right and dash is classy without being garish -not that I mind a bit.
Was surprised at the analogue instruments.

My 93 had almost 190k miles on it before the rear end rusted out and got dangerous to drive (midwest car).... the build quality and fit and finish was actually surprisingly decent on the interior. Things held up pretty good, with the exception of the faux wood which was just glued on. Those pieces would just fall out, eventually. You can just glue them back in, though. Not a big deal.

Hey Billy-Boy, the crew over loves the headlight drill at the start. If possible, RETURN to the last phase of your introduction where you peel-out on Peter's driveway and lock ^UP,^ the brakes at the wrought iron gates. Always complete your patented intro. NO other car Y-Ter does that maneuver. Many Thanks Booby ! 🔜. ⚡ 🚘. ⚡. 👏
