Over night my Sony remote went completely belly up. I went through this procedure one time and absolutely everything was returned to full functionality! I wasn't believing it would work while I was doing it, but what a pleasant surprise! Thanks so much.

Didn’t believe this would work but I tried it just the once and the circular set of buttons (left, right, okay, etc.) started working again for just a second! Was then inspired and decided if it’s dirt that’s stopping it I would get a toothpick and try to dig out any gunk I could! Spent about 5 minutes sticking the stick in and moving about (pulled out loads of dark, squidgy dirt 🤢) - put the batteries back in and voila! Working tv remote once again! Lifesaver - it’s been annoying me for weeks on end, were on the verge of replacing it, so thank you for saving us a good tenner! God send!
Thanks for the video. Pressing all the buttons a few times worked for me. However, the problem came back a few hours later, so I removed the 2 screws on the back under the battery cover plate and unclipped the 3 hidden clips on each side to release the top plate. Then I removed the rubber button mat and using rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab, I cleaned all the grooves in the rubber mat (topside and underside) and I cleaned twice all the pads on the circuit board where the rubber buttons make contact. My Sony RM-YD075 remote is working again.

I have 2 Sony BR players that I rarely try to use, but on occasion I would like to watch a DVD or Blu-ray & even though the remote appears to be in perfect condition (don't ask me why I have 2 players & 1 remote, no idea), it does absolutely nothing.
I tried this pushing all the buttons idea, but there's clearly no lotion or anything dirty in the remote, it just seems dead.

I've had trouble with my Sony Bravia RM-YD029 remote for some time now. I was able to get it working again on one round of pressing the buttons after removing the batteries and holding the power button as instructed in the video. Thank you!

I really can't believe that this worked! Remote was completely dead. 1 yr old tv. Replaced the batteries, still dead. Did this once and worked like a charm!
(Little tip:
Aim your remote at your cell phone camera and you can see the infrared sensor blinking if the remote is working.) Really helps with trouble shooting.
which means it steadily flashes read but stops when i pushed any button or the reverse?
Wow, that's a great idea - if no infra red, clearly it is a truly dead remote & needs more than just a little bit of button pushing.

My remote had battery acid leak inside, i cleaned with it with alcohol and would not turn back on so I had low hope for this working. It didn't work at first but then hit my desk with the remote real hard 5 times and now it actually works! A little cracked in the front but they are built pretty tough. thanks!

Glad I did now! OMG, I can't believe it actually worked, because for me it was the ENTER button that wasn't working, the POWER button was fine. I just bought a Sony DVD/VCR Combo with the remote at a yard sale and everything is still working, just had that remote ENTER button not working. Now EVERYTHING WORKS! I laughed my ass off so loud in joy when the enter button was working again. My first loud reaction was "HOLY CRAP IT WORKS!!!!!!" This makes my day!!!

Many remotes use elastomer or elastomeric keypads. These are not mechanic switches but rubber domes that have a little contact in the top of the dome. When you press down the dome compresses and the switch is sensed. What happens is they lose elasticity with age and can dry and crack. If they are not "gone" then giving them a good wiggle usually bounces them back into shape. Rarely used buttons usually go first. If this technique does not work then you can remove the screws and separate the circuit board from the buttons. Place the remote - bttons down on a table top and romove the back from above. This will leave the buttons in their correct positions. Then take the board and give it a gentle wipe with isopropyl alcohol. Let it dry, blow out the "domes" and reposition the PCB and screw it back together. It really is a very simple device and should last a decade or more.
