I LOVE this channel! Am I the only middle aged mum subscribed haha? My 16 year old son has just started 6th form college and has aspergers...the dress code is business wear so we bought him two suits plus a selection of ties and shirts. We don't have a lot of money so I watch these vids to try and adapt items and maintain them as best as possible. My son feels so much more confident in his suit and enjoys choosing which shirt and tie combo he wants for the day with either his navy suit or grey suit. I'm learning so much about mens clothes and that my son can achieve an elegant look just by getting the fit perfect and mix and matching with confidence. So, a big hello to all you sartorial gentlemen out there and thank you to everyone who contributes to this channel so that mothers of asperger sons like me can help their sons look great and feel great!
Aw! So adorable. I'm only 18 but in the distant future if I have a son I'll definitely teach him a thing or two about dressing up. It's disappointing to see dudes with no thought or effort put into their appearance. After being surrounded by quite a bunch of rich kids I certainly learned that you can't buy class.
Yup, like the new guy. He's a nice contrast in wardrobe selection (brand names) to the normally vintage selections of the channel. Between the three of them is where my daily dress lies. Moving forward, Kyle could use some voice lessons. He's pleasant, but monotone, and could use some coaching on how to place emphasis on the key points. It'll come.
Kyle's voice is very calm, which is particularly good for the 3/4 of the video as he's explaining some detailed process, but at the end it felt like his rythm was too slow thus sounding quite tired. He's an excellent addition to the Gentleman's Gazette tough.

His pants are way too low in relation to his jacket. The waistband is like a foot below the lower jacket button. This is a mistake I see all the time as button points have moved up and trousers' waists have moved down significantly over the past 15-20 years, thus throwing away balance and proportions. When he buttons the jacket, his shirt and tie inevitably show below the buttoned button. That being said, he seems like a really nice guy with some good potential.
@@countalma9800 I cannot agree with you more, sir! But he said he hates pleated pants and I am sure you cannot have a perfect proportions in a suit without higher waisted trousers (with at least single pleats) and longer jacket.
Took me ages to find a good tailor when I lived in Austin for graduate school. One thing I hated about moving is now I’m back on the hunt for a reliable tailor that’s local.
Kyle is a phenomenal addition to the channel! A home run with every video he’s been in so far, a great modern style, and a fantastic contrast to Sven’s more classical leanings. Though I’ve watched most of GG’s videos, I’ve strayed away for a while, but Kyle’s brought me back with a fresh new flavor!

Either more information about tailors and the history of thier craft or even how to make emergancy alterations and fixes to clothing. Kyle is wonderful in his acting and delivery of written script. I think with more time on camera he will be an invalube member of the team. And to you kyle dont feel bad about the socks , I feel like I can connect with your overall desire to present yourself properly and we ALL have been there. I really like the addition of Kyle. My one and only suggestion would be properly tying the shoes so the laces sit flat on top of the shoe, especially considering the channel. Great work! This channel has greatly improved my wardrobe choices. I dont know what i would do without the pocket squares, boutonnieres, ties and cufflinks from fort belvedere.

Finding a good alterations tailor can be a nightmare, since they rarely know "the sartorial way" - at least in Germany, where I live. For example: when telling the last alterations tailor I consulted a few months ago about the sleeve length I wanted on my sports jacket (showing about half an inch of cuff), he looked at me as if I was asking him to stitch some bunny ears on top of the shoulders. Very frustrating.
This dude is probably the most laid-back, relaxed and just generally chilled-out "I'll get to it when I get to it" presenter I think I've ever seen. For anyting. Love it.

I'm seeking for a tie knot that is as narrow as four in hand, and as symmetric as half Windsor. Any advices? 3) The intro/outro music is still too loud compared to the presenter's voice. Like it always is, but Kyle, being less loud than Raphael or Preston, makes it even more obvious. Decrease the music volume.

Amazing videos, really helped me get my wardrobe and styling to a much better place. One thing I have been looking for answers recently is how to plan/pack for a long vacation or trip - say more than 2 weeks. Say I wear suits everyday for work and casual suits/outfits on the weekends. I don't think it would be practical to bring half my wardrobe with me when traveling for say a month, or is it? How would you approach packing for trips that are longer than two weeks, and how do you dress on those trips? Thanks!
Good tips! Wearing your own dress shoes is vital for the fitting. Listen to the tailor and bring pictures similar to that of what you hope to achieve to give the tailor a better understanding of what way to take the suit.

The channel will only benefit from more diversity. That being said, any recommendations for a tailor in/near the cities? Rafael, do you want to disclose who you like to work with? I live an hour away from St. Paul (also a German transplant) but would make the trip.
In the last 2 years I've learned a lot going to my Tailor. Now I'm to the point that I can calculate when tapering (taper opening) and where my hem needs to be.
Nice addition. Good look Kyle. Really, I had a suit that I bought 15 years ago and thought that would never be good to wear again. Was a massive adjustment in a tailor in Berlin. Totally win. In the end I spend less than 200 euros for a result that I only could archive in a 2000 suit. Still, not perfect but I actually think that the imperfect details bring some personality to the suit now. Thanks for the video.

I just got my first sport coat back from a local tailor with good yelp reviews. Turned out great (Hickey Freeman EBAY find). Thanks to this and other videos you've done, she was able to know I appreciated her best work and seemed to enjoy working with me. We're slimming down a dark blue pin/chalk stripe next.
Kyle's great! Only suggestion is that he have a tailor look at his jacket collar! When he's standing up fully, it's pinching. They either need to lower the collar or let out some of the fabric in the center seam!

I really don't think that these slim fitting trousers for you well Kyle, they just get wrinkly and if you go with pleats it'll be a lot more comfortable

Good advice well presented. But here Kyle gives us an unintentional illustration of how dressing for body type is so important. He needs to take a page out of Raphael's book on how to dress if you're a bit on the stocky side. That said, Gentleman's Gazette could give attention to the importance of working toward a trim and healthy body contour, as getting in shape will be at least as important as fine clothes and good tailoring in achieving that dapper look.
I see only postive comments about Kyle, which is good, but when Preston joined the team he got a lot of disparaging remarks and still does from time to time, which is sad.
I might suggest a vídeo of how dress well in tropical enviroments, warm all year around. Shoud we tuck a polo in the pants for example. How to use a short sleeve dress shirt?
I once wanted brown suede elbow patches applied to a cardigan and was turned down by 3 tailors to do the work. That seemed weird. One of them said they’d do it if I bought the patches. I normally wouldn’t push so hard for the work but I knew I wanted them and didn’t trust myself to do it. I bought the patches and had the tailor apply them. The cardigan came out great! What was the big deal? The tailor that did it was one I’d been bringing pants and shirts to for ages. I don’t know but I’m glad I pushed for it.
I am loving the diversity of the channel, and I’m not just talking about the ethnic diversity of the GG crew; I’m speaking of the physical diversity: Sven, Preston, and Kyle all have different builds. Sven has a medium build, Preston has a slender build, and Kyle has a stocky build. I’m really digging the current direction of GG! 👍🏼
A lesson I’ve learned from going to get tailor work done is realize that they may do excellent work but it doesn’t mean they are knowledgeable in fashion. Having an accurate measurement is a major advantage. Not everyone will always measure a standard sleeve length and may benefit from having the sleeve shortened. With that being said if someone is doing your shirts by eye not ever shirt is always going to measure the same and therefore you’ll waste your income and get stressed knowing that each suit jacket isn’t going to be the right sleeve length either. Therefore figure out your proper sleeve length like a bespoke experience and get them to go by a number. Find someone who doesn’t object or else you’re just going to irritate a person who doesn’t want the job over and over again. Also make sure that you find someone who knows how to make everything balanced! If you get someone to tighten a pair of pants to make them look slim fit you might end up with a pair of pants that is now complimenting you legs but has a horrid seat. This channel has information on how the seat of your pants should fit and in my opinion it’s THE most over looked part to alterations and getting the right fit.
My first ever visit to a tailor was a disaster. I couldn't use the trousers as they were too tight around the thighs when seated, the jacket eventually had a problem where the rear was sewen unevenly and concealed with a clever press and the Tailor insisted I include a white shirt even though I hate white shirts and already had asked him to make me three other shirts. The white shirt was a heavy cotton that did not breathe and picked up every possible particle of lint and dust. I wanted to strangle him, but alas he was out of reach. An 8 hour plane trip to Bangkok. I have subsequently made fewer and fewer errors with other tailors. If you don't click, walk away.
For those who would find an entirely tailored wardrobe or having most of their garments altered too expensive, could you recommend a key tailored piece or pieces which would be a good investment? Many thanks.
Feel like when I finally go I'll end up fighting over the break of pants, I like zero break absolutely no bunching of pants at the shoes. In fact, I dont like my pants to touch my shoes at all I like them to stop just above them so my pants hang straight as possible and you can see a little sliver of sock or ankle
I like wearing suits, but my problem with it, that in most situations it's simply... too hot. Indoors even two layers shirt + jacket most of the times feels warmer than comfortable, third level instantly makes it waaaay to hot. Unless you are outside. But outside it's usually too cold to wear a suit without a coat on top, or it is summertime when wearing a suit is pure torture. So the only time when I can enjoy suits is mid spring and mid fall. What am I doing wrong?
A lot of tailors, not all of course, make significant mistakes. At a famous San Francisco retailer, I had an Armani suit re-tailored so many times that the store decided to literally shred it and provide another one free of charge. The reason: I kept saying my arms are exactly the same length and the store tailor insisted repeatedly, over weeks and weeks, that the only way to tailor jacket sleeves was by making chalk marks where he felt the sleeves should sit on the shirt cuffs. This resulted in a different sleeve length for each arm, and different sleeve lengths literally every time he did it. Had he listened to me and simply used the number I happily provided on day one, on both sleeves, we both would have been a lot happier.

A lesson I’ve learned from going to get tailor work done is realize that they may do excellent work but it doesn’t mean they are knowledgeable in fashion. Having an accurate measurement is a major advantage. Not everyone will always measure a standard sleeve length and may benefit from having the sleeve shortened. With that being said if someone is doing your shirts by eye not ever shirt is always going to measure the same and therefore you’ll waste your income and get stressed knowing that each suit jacket isn’t going to be the right sleeve length either. Therefore figure out your proper sleeve length like a bespoke experience and get them to go by a number. Find someone who doesn’t object or else you’re just going to irritate a person who doesn’t want the job over and over again. Also make sure that you find someone who knows how to make everything balanced! If you get someone to tighten a pair of pants to make them look slim fit you might end up with a pair of pants that is now complimenting you legs but has a horrid seat. This channel has information on how the seat of your pants should fit and in my opinion it’s THE most over looked part to alterations and getting the right fit.

My first ever visit to a tailor was a disaster. I couldn't use the trousers as they were too tight around the thighs when seated, the jacket eventually had a problem where the rear was sewen unevenly and concealed with a clever press and the Tailor insisted I include a white shirt even though I hate white shirts and already had asked him to make me three other shirts. The white shirt was a heavy cotton that did not breathe and picked up every possible particle of lint and dust. I wanted to strangle him, but alas he was out of reach. An 8 hour plane trip to Bangkok. I have subsequently made fewer and fewer errors with other tailors. If you don't click, walk away.

Feel like when I finally go I'll end up fighting over the break of pants, I like zero break absolutely no bunching of pants at the shoes. In fact, I dont like my pants to touch my shoes at all I like them to stop just above them so my pants hang straight as possible and you can see a little sliver of sock or ankle
I like wearing suits, but my problem with it, that in most situations it's simply... too hot. Indoors even two layers shirt + jacket most of the times feels warmer than comfortable, third level instantly makes it waaaay to hot. Unless you are outside. But outside it's usually too cold to wear a suit without a coat on top, or it is summertime when wearing a suit is pure torture. So the only time when I can enjoy suits is mid spring and mid fall. What am I doing wrong?
Perhaps you should try linen suits during summer. Wool and polyester materials will be too hot.
I like kyle, but i don’t think his style reflects Gentleman’s Gazette image and his trouser looks too tight for his body type
A lot of tailors, not all of course, make significant mistakes. At a famous San Francisco retailer, I had an Armani suit re-tailored so many times that the store decided to literally shred it and provide another one free of charge. The reason: I kept saying my arms are exactly the same length and the store tailor insisted repeatedly, over weeks and weeks, that the only way to tailor jacket sleeves was by making chalk marks where he felt the sleeves should sit on the shirt cuffs. This resulted in a different sleeve length for each arm, and different sleeve lengths literally every time he did it. Had he listened to me and simply used the number I happily provided on day one, on both sleeves, we both would have been a lot happier.
Great video I lost some weight I went from a 34 to 30 or 31 but I can’t find some of my pants anymore can a tailor help me?
