Charlie, as you've already read, she was classically-trained. I had the distinct honor of accompanying her on keys at the Gospel Music Workshop of America years ago. Sadly, she is no longer with us, but her legacy lives on. You've got a longtime fan in Chicago! Keep up the great work, sir! 🎵🎵🎵
@@TheCharlieSmithChannel I sent one of your videos to the church I attend in Chicago. I encouraged them to notice your sincere reactions and appreciation for the music and the gift. You have a consistent supporter of the channel in me. Thanks for reacting to LeCresia Campbell. Love and miss her voice. She has s song called "Safety" that is just AMAZING!
@@josephmoore31ify The composer of "Safety" (Oscar Williams) is a friend of mine. I remember when he presented that song in the Mass Choir division of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and Lecresia sang it for the recording. I accompanied Oscar when he reviewed it. Lecresia had us all laid out in the rehearsal. We all miss her!
@@kentbrooks3227 Wow that's Amazing brother 👏Thank God. I MIS Her so very much so 😢 But I know we will meet her again on the other side 🕊 We got to continue living for Jesus Christ tho❤
Lecresia was a dear personal friend! I was sitting at a friend's house in Austin, TX listening to her 1st album... When I heard her sing "Blessed Assurance" then realized the same person was singing, "I've Decided To Make Jesus...". I knew I had to meet her. I sent her a personal hand-written letter. She responded with a phone call. She came to visit. We became GREAT friends. Additionally, her birthday was 2 days after mine in October. I miss her sooooooo much.
Everyone is talking about the whistle notes. But did you catch the strength and grit of the first Holy???? Then went crystal clear on the second???? It set the tone for the entire vamp. Listen again @5:16
Those are not whistle registers. She hit those high notes in HEAD VOICE, it means she has a wide vocal range in chest, head, and she can hit higher whistle notes. If the highest note sung to this song was F#6 then she can hit F#7 in the whistle register pretty easily.
Charlie, yes she was classically trained in the State of Mississippi, at the preeminent Tougaloo College, a Historically Black College and University. The world lost a great gift of anointing when the Lord called her to reward on September 29, 2016, at 53 years of age. The Evangelical Pslamist Lecresia Campbell, may her melodic voice and spirit continue to reign high in the heavens.
I had the privilege and honor of meeting her at my church in NC VIJM in Whiteville. Then she sung me out my seat onto the flooring worship and tears. I couldn't stop praising God. Heaven 😂
Yes! I attended Tougaloo College in the early 90s. Every member of that choir was talented beyond belief. Check out Larissa Tate's Star Spangled Banner with the Mississippi Mass Choir. She also attended Tougaloo, and I believe she was only 17 years old when she performed it.
You know you were baptized in song by God, Himself, when you can PERFECTLY enunciate WITHIN a whistle. 😳😳😳 Lecresia’s tone and placement were always its own textbook that EFFORTLESSLY floated in a different stratosphere. Whew! 🤯🤯🤯 Rest well, Sis. 💐 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 🕊️
She is in Heaven singing with the Angels..... Such a tremendous blessing, her voice was heaven and now is in heaven with the angels. I am actually sad that I never encountered her when she was alive. Thanks for providing the opportunity..... blessings!!
She’s passed away?!?! What???? And this is the first time I ever heard her!!! 😢 That was soooo magnificent! P.S. Wow Charlie, this is also the first time I’ve heard your testimony too! That was beautiful. Praise the Lord!
A lot of times in conversations about the best female gospel artist Lecresia Campbell is left out, but her technical skills are right there with Kim Burrell, Karen Clark sheard, Cece Winans, Yolanda Adams, Lashun Pace, vanessa bell armstrong, etc. Thank you for showing her some love because there has not been a single gospel artist like her.
I agree and I discovered her this morning from a Twitter post and been heavily loopn this song all day. She was everything magnificent to the gift of life. Just pure excellence dripped in exquisite
@JawarooGambian really wow I never knew that. I know that it’s unlikely but I’d love if some network even if it was a RUclips page that did a documentary on her because her operatic approach to gospel is missed in gospel music today.
It's raw. Made spiritually naked in the presence of the Almighty. Pull up from the very depths. Holding nothing back. What we're talking about when we say caught up in the Spirit. The raw soul the raw spirit.
She was one of the most anointed and talented singers that we were blessed to experience! Every song she ever sang made me feel the power and awesomeness of God! May she rest in eternal peace!
The anointing is def present. I thoroughly cry tears of Joy and the Holy Ghost ushers in everytime I listen to this song. Thank God for her gift that we can continue to enjoy even now.
She truly had an amazing voice. One of my favorite songs she did is "The Only One" with The Wilmington-Chester Mass Choir. She sounds like a bird singing on a beautiful spring morning. It's stunning! You should definitely check it out.
You can tell she was classically trained by the movement of her hands , the timber of her voice. How she sings from her diaphragm and every word accented.
Charlie You have to go to you tube and go to this video and watch the video hole thing. They call her back to the stage and she kills it even more!! Go back and enjoy! God Bless!
When someone uses their God given gift you WILL have no other choice but to recognize him. This song has been giving me great comfort after my mother went to be with the Lord. I know she's enjoying Lecresia's heavenly voice up there. Also there are many forms of ministry. Gospel music is one form that brings souls to God. Be blessed 🙏🏾

Never heard anyone say that honestly. All (and I mean all) gospel before the 1960s was very classical in nature though. Lecresia’s style is similar to that period except with a few more contemporary touches.
If you'd like to hear a treat, listen to a younger Lecresia Campbell singing with Walt Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago on the classic song Perfect Praise (Oh Lord How Excellent).
Saw a part of this on my Facebook and had to find it.. have not been to church in over a decade but her voice truly moved me to tears .. I guess it is guilt

Absolutely. One of my favorite parts and so is 'Yes God' 😭😭😭🤧
Exactly! Like from the grit of the holy to the whistle notes is crazy
