This show was, at the start, center around Sam; Sam was (and kind of still is) the lead character (according to the line-up of the characters in the scripts) but the story did, some were around season 3-4, change from Sam to Dean. In the first 3 seasons (and season 5) it was all about Sam; Sam having powers, Sam having a relationship with a demon, Sam being Lucifers vessel, Saving Sam. But from season 4 it slowly started to change to Dean; Mary telling Dean that angels are watching over him, Dean dying and coming back, Dean having the Mark of Cain, Dean becoming a Demon, Dean being "under the spell" of Amara (and many, many more). Don't get me wrong I love everything that is about Dean, just found it interesting how it has changed.
well I think Dean's stories were all more interesting except sleeping with a an angel who throw his mom against the glass while she was pregnant with him part!
I cant even get over the fact that angel's face actually looks like Cas. And the fact Mary is so obsessed and overjoyed with it is so pretty. She's so certain about Dean being protected by angels after what she's just experienced about them, don't you think that says something about how intertwined Cas is with the Winchesters. I think he's always been a Winchester, before Dean even came into the world he was meant for that family.

Before mary died she recognized Azazel, but that has nothing to do with her "Remembering dean and sam", she recognized Azazel because she made a deal with him to bring john back to life.

I am NO christian or jehova's witness but the content of the show is influenced by the Bible and i'd like to say the Supernatural Team have seriously carried out a strong message in almost every episode. im not sure but i think she remembers what happend. sam says in ep 21,season 1, when he is in the nursery with the yellow eyed demon "she knows you" (or something like that). that means mary knows everything or not?
The most tragic thing I always think is that Mary really didn't need to die, Azazel actually said at the end of series 2 to Sam and in 4x03 to Mary herself, he only killed her because he was interrupted, he didn't necessarily need her dead, he would have left her be if she hadn't disturbed him, if she had remembered what Dean said and not gone into the nursery that night, or just not woken up, then Dean and Sam could have had an ordinary life, at least until after Sam's 22nd birthday. As Castiel said, all roads lead to the same destination, they still would have eventually ended up in the same situation because they're still the vessels, and Sam would still have come into his psychic powers at age 22, and if he still went to Stanford and met Jess (which I think he would have) then Azazel still probably would have killed her in order to stop Sam going down the white picket fence life route. Unfortunately the timeline would probably eventually get back on track. For example knowing Sam, I think he would eventually have confided in his parents about the strange nature of Jess's death and about his visions, and possibly about seeing a yellow-eyed man in the flames, Mary would have put two and two together, told them all about her past and about demons in order to protect them and figure out what was happening to Sam, perhaps they would train to get better at self defense, learn about monsters. Mary and John still probably would have been killed at some point, they might have been killed trying to track down Azazel to get answers about what he did to Sam, or maybe when Sam eventually got transported to the psychic kids fight to the death, because they would have gone after him. Probably Dean would still have ended up making the deal to save Sam and gone to hell, one way or another it would have ended up with the whole chain of events that followed, but they would have had a normal life, a normal childhood up until that point. Arguably John raising them the way he did prepared them better for what was always to come, but it's still sad they didn't get to enjoy a normal upbringing, the calm before the storm...
Well if michael hadn't mind-wiped them, mary wouldn't have died, kids aren't hunters, dean doesn't break the first seal so sam can't break the last in the demon blood plot, and they'd have had no way or reason to go back and tell their mother not to go in, meaning she'd go in, creating a universe where they'd warn her and she lived which would create one where they didn't and she did. Welcome to paradoxes.
