David has 2 concerts in his barn each year in Culleoka, Tennesse. One is on Labor Day weekend called the Barn Bash and the second is the weekend after Thanksgiving called the Christmas Barn Bash. You should go to hear David live.
If you want to see him live, it is easy. David hold a Labor Day Barn Bash every year at HIS Farm. His house is next door. Who else holds a concert at their residence for 500 or so people in a barn next door to their home, for a whole weekend and people get fed too. He also hold a Christmas Barn Bash around Thanksgiving . I have been to that one and he is just so humble and kind. It is worth a Pilgrimage.
I am a David Freak. This performance was just beautiful. The arrangement ,I agree stunning. Moonlight is David's lyrics set to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. Very captivating. Thanks for your reactions. Nice to get musicians perspective
That's David Barn on his pharm in Culleoka which he converted to a performance venue. His recording studio is the former milking parlor. I was there in May of 2015 for this live taping of his "Freedom" album. Hotter than South Texas or the Valley of the Kings. Still wonderful.
So interesting fact, not only is this concert performed at David's family farm in Tennessee, but the stage is actually built by David himself as he has carpentry skills, and I believe it was this concert that in some clips from the dvd you can see one of his fingers or possibly it was a thumb I can't remember, has a bruised nail because he hit it with a hammer lol. I like to tell people don't bother with a list of his all time greats it's just to long, just pick a song and listen and don't be afraid to pick one you've heard before performed at a different venue or year because odds are it will be different from the other one. as an example. O Holy Night, David's favorite Christmas song, the first recording on video was from around 2001 Birmingham, Alabama, this is considered one of his best versions of the song. The next major recording of this song is around 2006 with David's solo Christmas album when he performed it live at his Christmas barn bash, the latest version is actually retitled, Fall on your Knees and is a Duet with Charlotte Richie who is the redheaded female singer in the background of We Shall Behold Him, all three are Great in their own rights and worth listening to. So in closing David has 25 years of songs recorded for us to enjoy, and it's a very deep and wonderful hole to fall into.
Also, Fall on Your Knees was nominated for a Dove award. David has many talents as his home is a working ranch with horses, cattle, chickens, etc. He works the ranch with help I'm sure as it is about 100 acres. Don't know how he does all that he does.
Tickets go on sale for his Labor Day Barn Bash February 14 at noon via his website. His Farm is located about 60 miles south of Nashville, in Culleoka, Tennessee. I was there last year and learned that people from all over America come to this 2day event! Thank you for your “DAVID” Phelps reviews! They are very special coming from a musician!
Dottie Rambo is a legendary Christian songwriter, but by far the most famous version of this song is by Sandi Patty. Dottie had a bucket list of three of her songs she wanted David to record. He had recorded the others long ago, but he hesitated for years to record this one because he thought Sandi owned the song. Dottie died in a crash of her bus in 2008. She's in just about every gospel songwriter's Hall of Fame it's possible to be in.
Just this…Sandi Patti, who made this song famous, back in the “cheesy Christian” music time, as you say….sang this song in an intimate setting for the video Gaither Homecoming series….which you can look up on RUclips anytime… And, in this gathering, Dottie Rambo was in the group of assembled artists. Patti acknowledges Dottie and then sings this much loved song of anticipation….and to watch Dottie experience her own song, sung thru the voice of such a talent as Patti…..well, it is so amazing. Just to note, David was indeed brought to worlds attention and beloved by Christian’s everywhere for his talent and commitment to the gospel as he sang for years with the Gaither Vocal Band. His years with that group produced so many profound moments, there is not time or space to explain. But, I love your reactions to his musical arrangement and writing talents in addition to his voice, for which he is most famous. Go to his Barn Concerts which happen each Labor Day. You will never leave the same.
David sells a T-shirt that has a list on it that says, "My favorite Phelps is a swimmer, pitcher, or tenor." Tenor is of course checked off. You need to do "No More Night." It's probably his most famous song along with "O Holy Night."
This is a barn at his house in Tennessee that he turned into this arena. He is classically trained and an amazing Southern Gospel artist. Listen to Sandy Patty do the same song.
It was so much fun watching your reaction to David. He is absolutely the best ever. He does not just sing great, it’s every detail. Every song is so different- remarkable! TY
Oh yeah, would SO love to be there. Being in Australia, probably never will. But it would be just so incredible. Even just listening to him from a distance gives me goosebumps and its just so touching, moving, it would be just amazing to be able to see him live. His voice is definitely God given - and he gives the glory back to God always. Thanks for the reaction. He is awesome. Water, is another song from that concert that he sings with his daughter - also great. Oh Holy Night (green jumper version), Star Spangled Banner (Legacy of Love version/Kashmir) He has also recently done a beautiful cover of Unchained Melody. So so so so many to enjoy. Yes, another Phreaky Phelps Phan
David is a great arranger. This took place in his barn that he converted into a recording studio if I'm not mistaken. Got to see David year before last and it was great!
Good morning. I’m in my car trying to thaw it out at ~-4F and listening to the commentary. Yes ‘80s Christian music can be cheesy and over the top but is beloved by many growing up in faith at that time. I also was weaned on southern Gospel and talk about over the top!!….the Blackwood Brothers, the Florida boys and the Happy Goodmans as well as any local amateur 4 part harmony group. Don’t listen to it a lot but it warms my heart when I do. Take note that at least part of why it’s “over the top” is they actually believe what they are singing. 😀😀🙏🏻
David does have a theatrical nature. His performances as well as his compositions/arrangements reflect that. He has starred in a couple of musicals also.
Saw him 2 wks ago at Baylor. He did not disappoint. Amazing voice and he loves what he does. God gave him a precious tool to reach those who love mysic.😊
Dottie was a country and gospel singer but yes, this song really got it’s start when Sandi Patty sang it. Her arrangement had the sky opening up like this one.
His latest work from the Game Changer CD. There are videos for Hello Beautiful and A Song For Sinners and I Remember What We Thought Love Was. All originals. I really appreciate your reviews.
I've been to one Dave Phelps concert at the Van Wert County Fair Ground grand stand. My wife also saw him in Fort Wayne at a Christmas concert where he did his famous rendition of Oh Holy Night. Funny thing David Phelps and David Meece came to Van Wert the same year and both of them hugged my wife. David Meece was my favorite artist of the 80s. What would probably interest you about him was that he took classical pianist training and turned it into a gospel rock career. Most notable song is We Are The Reason. An Easter song with a Christmas twist. There are many other fantastic songs, some where literally incorporates classical works to contemporary Christian Rock. On that note you should check out David Phelps original End of the Beginning(I think it's called)
Yeah, there is nothing like hearing David LIVE. It is mindblowing and everyone should experience it at least once. You should do "No More Night" next... one of his bests. ruclips.net/video/4iPIi7sunEU/видео.html
Please critique "NO MORE NIGHT" by David.. This song is one of my all time favorites, EVER! There's the older, posted version, and more recently, David performing No More Night with a childrens' choir. Both are amazing!
It's funny that you mention the song, "Bridge Over Troubled Water." He just recently released his video on RUclips covering that song. You should check it out. He opens the song with his two daughters singing the first verse.
Sorry if you’ve already reviewed this song but I’d really love to hear your thoughts on David’s song, Agnus Dei, with his daughter. I’m mega-impressed that Maggie Beth has such a developed voice and technique at such a young age. If you have reviewed it, I’d appreciate if you could post the link to that review. I’m really enjoying your posts on David!
This song was most famously recorded by Sandi Patty in 1981. You might enjoy listening and possibly reacting to her version -- with Dottie Rambo in the audience. It's amazing! Also, Dottie wrote "I Go to the Rock" which was sung by Whitney Houston in "The Preacher's Wife."
Not sure if you know but he was the high tenor for the Gaither Vocal band in the late 90"s early 2000. He did an amazing job in These are They. You should listen to them
David Phelps was actually with the Gaither Vocal Band from 1997-2005 and 2009-2017. So two 8 year stints with Bill Gaither's group, and Bill Gaither recorded all of it lol. So if you want to watch it, it's super easy just go to GVB youtube channel lol just about all of it is there.
@@theblindleadstheblind I'm in Colorado, too! David is the best tenor I've ever heard. End of the Beginning, One Wintry Night, No More Night, O Holy Night, and it goes on and on...
I love to know that folks appreciate something, regardless of what it is, as long as it is not something harmful or wicked. Therefore, I am going to be a butt-in-sky and suggest: "Ain't No Grave." I think it is on the same album as this song. It is a very very old song, -simple and kind of in the family with Swing Low Sweet Sweet Chariot. So, if you get a chance. give it a listen. David really touches a lot of folks with his singing. He is not always serious, but I love how he sings not to show an audience all his talents...of course he does, but his primary goal is to glorify God and edify the people ...with his talents and devotion. I have albums wherein he and the other singers are shown at ease, and he seemed shy. I have never met him. But I am aware that is also a carpenter and his kids and wife seem devoted to him and he to them. God bless him, and you too. Nice of you to play these pieces and comment for us. It increases my appreciation for music which is a big thing in my life.
Look up Sandi Patty's rendition of We Shall Behold Him. Also I do think he dubbs(not sure of tech talk) the choir sounds behind him along with the live choir. I have not seen him live but would love to.
We were there!! Amazing night!!

Weve met David. Awesome man
Thanks for sharing this reaction! Phelps Phreak phorever! Ha!
It WAS amazing!!! But it was 100+ degrees in the barn. Now it’s air conditioned!! What an awesome experience to see David in person!!
I was there… it was an awesome experience - my first time ever at David’s farm - in the barn… absolutely fabulous !!!!!!
I am a David Freak. This performance was just beautiful. The arrangement ,I agree stunning. Moonlight is David's lyrics set to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. Very captivating. Thanks for your reactions. Nice to get musicians perspective

Sandi's rendition of We Shall Behold Him. It's pretty spectacular. ruclips.net/video/KZ3H3lg9NZM/видео.html
My favorite version of this song is David’s… to me it is better than Sandy’s… IMO
The barn on his pharm holds 500 people. He’s EXTRAORDINARY live. Just saw him twice.
It is a barn specially constructed for concerts on David's property. The whole idea is as special as David is!
I was at one of David's concerts this past May and he sang "Bridge over troubled water" it was amazing!
The best weekend of the year is spent in that Barn for Labor Day weekend.
Dude, your analysis is amazing. I love it. I love you. I'm definitely following YOU!

David sells a T-shirt that has a list on it that says, "My favorite Phelps is a swimmer, pitcher, or tenor." Tenor is of course checked off. You need to do "No More Night." It's probably his most famous song along with "O Holy Night."

“No more night” by David Phelps
Superb!

I wish you would listen to David’s song, The Dream, which he wrote.

Listen to Sandy Patty do the same song.

Interesting commentary! David’s next Barn Bash at his farm in TN is thanksgiving weekend - it’s a great concert and, indeed, a cinematic venue.
The mic is set the way it is because David's vocals are so powerful- Check out-NO MORE NIGHT,LET FREEDOM RING, WRITTEN IN RED~

drummer greg ritchie has never recorded a mislip, i would nearer think the mic thing was deliberate here.
You should hear him singing “Bridge over troubled water”!!
Do no more night by David next, followed by Just as I Am.
Do yourself a great favor and listen to Sandi Patty singing 'We Shall Behold Him'. Let's see if the last note she sings is even ON the piano!!
