I watched your video and was able to successfully replace the latch assembly. It was easy, even though I am not an experienced appliance repair person and am a grandma. Thank you for the great tutorial.
Other than salvaging the door handle, this was everything I needed to know about replacing a damaged latch mechanism on my dishwasher. Great tutorial! Thanks for posting!
Thanks for posting! I had to pry the dishwasher door open because it locked up and the black handle wouldn't open it. Then the door wouldn't close; the latch assembly was broken beyond repair. We ordered another from Sears Direct and this video was a great help in removing the broken one and installing the new one. Took 5 minutes and our dishwasher is working again. Thanks again!
I'm a new widow and our dishwasher handle/latch just broke a few weeks ago. I was extremely worried that I was going to be out a ton of $$$ for a repairman or a new dishwasher! I ordered this part from PartSelect and followed this tutorial to a T and it worked like a dream! I ran a load of dishes this morning and it worked great! Thanks so much!!!
Krista Lancaster Great work on your repair! Always glad to hear we could help save you some cash!
Hi Robert,
Thanks so much for your great feedback :). We're so glad to hear about your successful repair, your money saved, and yes - the ecological impact of repairing vs. replacing an appliance can be astronomical in the long run.
As far as your wife longing for a new dishwasher, there are actually some really great and interesting tips online regarding how to freshen up the look of older appliances! Cheers.
I had to replace the door latch on our Maytag dishwasher. Admittedly the door gets opened quite a few times a day. After 5 years I replaced the $45 latch. It lasted 5 years when I had to replace it again for another $45. In order to avoid replacing the latch every 5 year my wife had a good idea. We leave a dishtowel hung over the door to prevent the door from latching and remove the dishtowel whenever we need to start the dishwasher. If the dishwasher fails again it probably will not be the switch.
Great video! Was able to change the handle on my dishwasher with ease!!!!
Thanks Steve! We ordered the new latch kit on Thursday night and it arrived Saturday! My husband and I watched your video and changed it out in about 5 minutes - cost of the part was under $30. Great info and great Part Select!
You're welcome! Glad we could help!
Well, the parts came in (well packed by the way). I pulled of the connectors just as you said and showed with a screwdriver--they came off. The control panel was easy to replace also. The only minor tough part was to remove the connector to the circuit board. You must push the plastic female end (on the circuit board) forward to remove the pin connector. YOU MUST REMOVE THE COVER to the circuit board to do this. Job done perfect in about 15 minutes. THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the video, made the job easy and go smoothly.
Thank you! Very easy to follow and now my dishwasher is working again.
Thank-you!! I was afraid to pull them off with that much force. I have ordered the parts including a new control panel--the plastic pieces that hols the handle assembly broke off. I saw where others had this problem too and used some sort of make-shift plastic weld to fix it--I just ordered the entire panel.
Thanks so much for giving me the knowledge I needed to fix my own dishwasher handle!
Excellent tutorial and fast parts shipping, made me feel like a pro mechanic! Thanks guys, will recommend you for sure!
Thanks, Steve!
For those of us replacing entire unit, (latch AND handle) it wasn't clear that all you need to do is unlock the handle and change out the old kit with the new one. Wish that had been made clear at the beginning of the video; would've saved me a lot of frustration.....just a suggestion.
Thanks for the video. Turned out to be an easy fix!
great video. thanks for your clarity.
Thank you!! Easy peesy!
I've just taken my door panel off, was going to replace my Latch Assembly, however I discovered it was only the handle that was broken. But as I examined the Latch assembly and the Handle... the handle doesn't snap in place at all, it only fits up into the slot position w/ the inner tabs. I've got a couple metal pins on the handle but they don't snap in place.
In removing the Latch Assembly, the white square plastic attached to the metal tabs of the switch was extemely difficult to separate.
Ok, Right now mine is sticking, so I did ordered a new one for mine before it breaks.
Thank-you for the video; however, the most important part for me is not clear in the video. I cannot get the electrical connectors to come off. You get the job done with a screwdriver. Do I just pry them off? I'm afraid I am going to break the connector since it appears to have a locking mechanism in the connector. Please advise--Thank-you!
Forgotten item in switch replacement! There are TWO PLASTIC TABS on the bottom of the inner door seal...after you remove the 11 screws AND replace you door latch...now time to put it back together...BUT I discovered TWO one-=inch plastic tabs on the bottom of the door plate--DO THEY GO ON THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE??? Day I did my switch replacement was a holiday and I could not telephone Maytag or anybody to tell me whether those plastic tabs go inside or outside...even though a small thing,,,I think you should tell us in your RUclips and website about those 2 plastic tabs---INSIDE or OUTSIDE!

ps flip a coin???
how do you push up on the handle when the outter black sides are pushing down on the grey plastic channel? am I missing something
???
Why did you have to change the handle? Isn't the handle the correct one in the first place?
Hi - just wondering why you took the new latch off of the new latch mechanism it was already attached to before installing? I noticed that with my new replacement part the latch already was in the locked position in the mechanism. So, I simply took off screws, pulled old latch/mechanism off, plugged the new one in, and screwed the panel back on. Even easier. :)
I bought the part with the handle on it already. Can I skip the part with locking the handle assembly? Thanks
The metal clip came out of my door latch -- can I somehow put in back in without a complete handle kit?
And if the latch/door is stuck CLOSED?
,o
this sucks
