- DIY door fridge reversal. If your Whirlpool fridge is new you may not need a refrigerator door reversal kit. As new Whirlpool refrigerators should come with the tool to remove the nameplate, as well as a new nameplate. Whirlpool refrigerator M#WRT511SZDM00
I will show you step by step, how to change the direction your refrigerator door opens.
Learn how to change swap the hinges, the door stops, and the fridge and freezer handles. For the beginner DIY'er this may take 45-60 minutes.
I recommend removing everything from the side storage on both the freezer and the refrigerator before attempting to perform this repair. The same principle works on GE and Frigidaire single door fridges, it's just that the bolts and hinges may be different. Хобби
I like the way his hair was neat when he started, then frazzled when he finished.
That’s how you know it’s authentic.
😂
Very helpful. Well done. Thank you. Made job doable by removing unknowns. Thank you
Great to hear! Thanks Buddy!
Thanks for the help! Now I'm not so scared to try this!
Thank you so much for posting this. It was a HUGE help!
Thanks for the vid. Word to wise: When I tried to pry the caps off the top of freezer door (opposite of hinge), two out of three caps snapped off leaving the remainder of the cap in the hole. Had to drill out the broken pieces. Did everything correctly, they just were too stubborn. Also, when switching these doors it's amazing how cheaply fridges are built these days. Definitely not Norge quality from back in the day.
This comment should be pinned. I was in the same boat and ended up drilling through the broken pieces. The caps should have been designed better to be easily removed.
@@MichaelMiller6 exactly why I'm here. Guess I don't need to watch the video. I snapped off the first one, thought I should look into it before snapping off the rest. I'll call it a design flaw and charge up my cordless for some drilling.
I snapped mine off too that’s why I’m here
EXACTLY
I had the same problem. Honestly just tried using an Awl tool and just pushed the broken pieces in and the bolts screwed in no problem. Was no way I could grab the broken pieces to pull them out.
Amazing and very clear video! Congratulations!
Awesome I have this same fridge and want to move the doors. Thanks 🙏
You can do it!
This was so incredibly helpful!!!
😂👌🏾 good job but you look like you went to war with that refrigerator at the end of the video
Thanks!!
Thanks so much showing this
Thanks for the content
Good video but why did you use such a wide angle? Seemed to jump from step to step at times. That being said, it was helpful and will give it a go and hope for the best. Thx
This is a great video! Thank you for showing us everything you were doing, up close, from every angle.
Thank you for checking it out glad it helped :)
Awesome job. 👍👍☘️☘️☘️👍👍
Thank you Kevin! 🍻
good job
THANK YOU!!!!!
Your welcome!! 😀
Thx guy. Good vid
Glad it helped
Awesome
Never understood why you can pick the color but not where the hinges are. It’s a real pain to change them.
Thank you. This was a huge help!
Thanks for watching :)
Hello. So I had a tenant from below Hell that decided to reverse the doors himself, and ended up taking every single piece of hardware related to the swinging functionality of the doors. WRT518SZFM. Where can I find the exact replacements of all the part? Your help is much appreciated.
Here's a question. I have the same situation. But as I go to remove the PLASTIC GLUED IN top screws correctly the top pops off. How do I do this befor my husband comes home? I like to do it for him. Be handy.
I've had luck with a flat head screwdriver but it doesnt always work
Thanks Buddy.
Can reversing the doors cause any cooling issues in a fridge that’s a few years old versus a new fridge?
It can if they are not lined up and sealing
Please accept this like!
Do you ever have to predrill the new holes? I have a different model of Whirlpool and even using a phillips bit in a drill, I can't get the screws all the way in.
I’ve never predrilled holes and don’t recommend it unless you are amazing at fabricating fasteners
Ok that was way more complicated than I thought. I'm afraid to tackle this. Watching again hoping for confidence. Did you actually turn the doors over? Are the shelves upside down? I'm sorry ..
Doors stay stationary. Your only swapping the hinges and handles :)
when you take the door handle off - and put it on the other side - what happens to the screw holes that held it on originally?
Those plastic tabs can go back in there if you can get them out without destroying them. Unfortunately Im not that good at that and only have around 50 percent saver rate :)
It’s the stupid screw covers that I’m having a hard time getting out and unfortunately you don’t cover how you got those out on this fridge.
Thin flathead screwdriver to pry them up. Then pliers. I'm actually very bad at removing those and keeping them in one piece.
@@ApartmentMaintenanceProI broke mine off and I’m trying to figure out how to get them out
The hinge on the top of the fridge between the fridge and freeEr doors dips down a slight bit onto the rubber gasket that goes around the whole door to seal it closed, keep th cold in.
So when tou flip the hinge to move it to the left side from the right now it humps up and doesnt dipbdown into the door. Its not straight like the one in your video that keeps it same shape put one direction or the other.
What do u do with THAT.? Do i need a reversal kit or something in order to reverse the door? Its got to be flipped. I can hardly get into it the way it opens now. So frustrating!.
I called whirlpool... went to Lowes...
No one knows anything about anything meanwhile i cant get into damn fridge.
Help!
If it has screws in it remove them to flip the hinge, if not I haven’t seen it before
@@ApartmentMaintenancePro when hinge is flipped it bows up VS down on original side. Hinge is not meant to be flipped. It's completely different when brought to the other side and flipped over. Doesn't work. I got it off it doesn't work
I have one of these and the front right wheel ALWAYS squeaks when the fridge door is opened or closed. I know there is a bolt to adjust because I’ve had techs show me but I adjust it and it’ll stop for 5 minutes and then start again. Any advice? Thank you sir.
Not sure. Sounds like something is rubbing against something somewhere.
Ugh, I don't have the tools I need for this, where your drill is barely powerful enough for door stop, my hand powered tool is not strong enough to get one of them out and now stuck
Those three plugs on top all snapped off! How can I get them out?
Hi - I had a plastic hole plug break while I was trying to remove it. The stem is stuck in the hole. Any idea of how I could get it out?
I use needle nose pliers to pull them out. Those tabs always seem to break when doing this :(
i have the exact same issue. 2 of the 3 broke and the stem is stuck flush with the fridge and can't get it out. How did you end up getting it out?
@@mptboi7284 Did you ever get the plugs out? We just bought one and already one broke so I'm thinking of leaving the door opening the wrong way which is ridiculous!
@@alkaseltz9 My husband said too bad. You will now have backwards doors.😂
My husband gave up on the hole plugs so I have backwards doors still. 😞
Darn 😢
THE MUSIC IS NOT NECCESSARY !!!
Brand fridgidare,,how to swap swing doors
Should be the same concept as in this video, but have different screws
150 manouvers like this and he still makes dents and scratches on the fridge. Damn I'd be mad as fuck.
Please time stamp the dents and scratches you see me make. Thanks
@@ApartmentMaintenancePro No offense tho, otherwise it's a really helpful video. But you know, it's the internet :)
2:20
At 2:31 you can see the top right corner of the bottom door is seamless, but by 10:57 you can spot the dent there.
It's not a big issue since the curse of the inox is that everything is visible, mostly the fingerprints.
Soooo…what happened to the Whirlpool logo/sticker? Do you just not put it back? Mine started to bend when I tried to take it off.
If you use a plastic razor you can scrape them off, may have to reglue it. I've messed up several trying to switch them over, but, they used to come with an extra sticker I don't know if they still do.
@@ApartmentMaintenanceProwhat is under the sticker that allows me to attach the top part of the freezer handle? is there a hole there too ?
please no music next time, thanks
2.20 is where he scratches the top of the fridge.
.
Why do we need music to learn how to change a door hinge? Distracting .
Your drill is wimp
