On and off the bandstand..Marvin is a true credit to music and our historic instrument. I will never forget the kindness he showed me when I contemplated moving to New York in the early 80s. Wonderful player. When he was demonstrating playing long phrases it didn't even look like he was taking a breath. This trumpet playing game is certainly centered around air support. I love the horn but why does the damn thing have to be so hard to play? Is that a Martin that Marvin is playing?
first thing he said was he would kick a guy off his stand if they were using cell phones or tabs and the fake marine is just going at it the whole time! lol
He might not have been too fake since he cut and ran when Zinn's book started getting being described. I used to think all jazz musicians and most musicians in general had to be liberal/progressive in their politics and behavior. Sadly not so.

I first heard Marvin Stamm on a Stan Kenton record over 30 years ago. Amazing to be able to watch him give a talk on trumpet playing.
Best master class I’ve seen so far, such a wise veteran. I trust the students leaned on every word this sage spoke.
