Hi Lish, thank you for your kind words! And congrats on the CIPD accredition. Just me personal opinion here, if you can go for additional certifications, just do it. The more the merrier.

Hi, thanks for watching my video. Any valid certification definitely gives you an edge over other candidates. As for CIPD weightage in CHRP, I am not very sure as I did not go ahead with CHRP, hence did not do that research. However, you may explore the CHRP website, they do have a comprehensive marking schedule which includes the various international certification weightages.

Hi, Thank You. Very Informative and helpful video. I am an HR professional currently working in India and in process of coming to Canada in next 6-8 months. I am an MBA in HR with 15+ yrs of experience in HR Generalist domain. I really wish to do CHRP now and probably CHRL later, but i found that CHRP can be done only after landing in Canada and that too would take approximately 1 year to clear all course modules. Pls suggest ways through which i can secure a suitable job for myself after landing in Canada till completion of my CHRP. Also any other suggestion if you would like to give. Thanks.

We are expected to have working knowledge of Canadian Laws, which ofcourse is not possible with international experience. Certification is a good starting point. Hi Snehaz, thats a very good question! Although my basic understanding is that certifcations hold a different value than college courses, you may want to double check with the college you intent to do your HRM diploma course. For example, even if someone has done an MBA in HR, they go ahead with certifications to add value to their career profile.

Certificates are not a mandatory requirement, but definitely gets a priority over someone who is non-certified .. if you have the feasibility of getting certified, go for it

Hi,certifications just enhance your profile, they dont guarantee a job !! As far as you are in Canada, CPHR should suffice. You can always do CHRI as your personal accomplishment and ofcourse it adds value to your experience.

I have 4 years of Expat HR experience here in India and have handled multiple countries in my job role including countries in Europe and East Asia. With the great layoffs, there are too many unemployed people in the market as compared to available job postings. Hence, I can only wish you all the success in your job search and do get your certifications done to have that extra edge over other candidates.

Hi, firstly, congratulations for the certification and please know that any certification adds value to your career, irrespective of country.. However, its always better to also aim for certain globally recognised certifications like SHRM, CHRP or the ones provided by HRCI to have that competitive edge!

PR is anyday the best option, comes with a lot benefits in Canada. Since you already have an MBA, i would suggest go for a certification rather than another pgdm course. The journey will be difficult but worth it

Hi Jasneet, my apologies for responding this late! I would first complete my studies and then pursue additional certificates. Canada has its own HR certificates ( you can refer to my other videos) . If you plan to stay here long term, I would suggest pursuing any such certificate so that you have a competitive edge against other candiates during interviews.

Since you have 6-7 months time, start networking right away. Leverage Linkedin to connect with people from all the companies you aim to work in. The work culture is definitely different than India. This is something I saw with one of my collegues wife, who followed this pathway. She started with Accounting, she was already working for compnay up in Canada while working she completed her CPA. Then she moved into department dealing with North American payroll accounting. She first learnt all about US and Canadian payroll there. Then her company implemented SAP, she learnt technology there as well, but more from funtional aspect. She then did few certiications in SAP, now she works as SAP consultant in HCM space, specializing in setting up North American payroll and taxes in SAP.

Hi Ms 'Happygolucky' , love your name by the way!!! Your question is very open ended. Any career is good to pursue in Canada if you have the zeal and are ready to hustle as a new immigrant. The first few years are gonna be tough naturally. Again, higher studies in any field is completely personal choice and interest. So, just go with what you think your skills are more aligned with.

Also, if you want to switch jobs, you can pursue certifications to start with. CHRP /CPHR is the entry level certifications for HR folks in Canada.

Hi Aakanksha, you can get your SHRM-CP designation from anywhere in the world!! every certificate has their own value and I cannot really say if SHRM is premium to CPHR.. All I can say is SHRM is globally recognised and CHPR holds value only in Canada...

Hi Udhaykumar, sponsorship in HR field is little difficult. You may still want to give it a try by being available in the canadian job pool and check if you receive calls and talk to them about the sponsorship. The easiest and fastest way is PR , any day.
