Tom King, Jonathan Hickman, Ryan North, Daniel Warren Johnson, Kelly Thompson, & Rainbow Rowell have all been putting out amazing books consistently throughout 2024. I've been spoiled with so many good books this year such as King's Helen of Wyndhorn, Doom One Shot, or the continuation of Thompsons's Birds of Prey (Big Barda>) & Absolute Wonder Woman. With Gail Simone finally coming back to comics with Uncanny X-Men, there are so many consistently good writers working on monthly titles right now.
All I had to hear was Tom King and Limited Series and I was in. Added straight to my pull list. I'm don't have a particularly big interest in Black Canary but after 1 issue, I'm invested and care about her. Your love for the character is amazing. I could listen to people talk about their favourite characters all day, enthusiasm is infectious!
I really love that this issue. If this series continues to be great, it could be a great epic. I get a feeling that this will be answer of "Is Black Canary really main character in a solo project? What would even be her story?" This is the story.
Thanks. A wonderful reminder to checkout some comics this week. Love Canary too. Will have to checkout the book. Need a helpful hand in selection of weekly comics - thanks for the suggestion.
I’m glad to hear issue 1 was interesting, I personally didn’t pick it up cause Ryan Sook’s art style (which is great) doesn’t vibe with me personally and I just had to stop collecting Tom King’s Wonder Woman ongoing. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts about how that series is going cause I was really rooting for it myself as a huge Woman of Tomorrow fan and it doesn’t seem to be picking up speed with the story like I’d hoped
Black Canary has been a longtime fave of mine since the 70's in GL/GA, and the satellite years of Justice League of America! After being disappointed with Mike Grell's portrayal in the Green Arrow series of the 80s....it was refreshing to see her thrive under Chuck Dixon and (especially) Gail Simone in Birds of Prey, and Brad Metzler over in Justice League making her team leader! Loved Tony Bedard's rendition in the mini-series, pre-New52. I currently trade-wait....so I'm glad Tom King is going to make a fantastic contribution to the character's legacy. (I've enjoyed all his DC and Marvel mini-series...but haven't sampled his Batman run yet!)
-- Is it just me, or does King kinda sound like Quentin Tarantino? (just deeper) -- I agree about DC making perennial, evergreen stories to define their heroes - and I think they attempt to do that with some of their trades, but I have to disagree about King's work. "Mr Miracle" and "Strange Adventures" to me should not be see as such. Those series are a distinct departure from what those characters are and I'm not sure his interpretations of those characters make sense unless you know their actual perennial, more timeless stories. -- I like to think of this as the spiritual sequel to "Superman vs. Muhammad Ali."
Crazy how man literally butchered 2 members (Batman and Wonder Woman) of the DC Trinity! Adding of course; the brutal character assassination of another iconic figure who is Wally West's Flash and he did it so casually... Yet people actually still giving him a chance and think he's a great writer just because of a 6 year old Superman book, his only good book in trillion.
Even after beating Lady Shiva she'll still not making the top 5 fighters 😂 You got Karate Kid and Bronze Tiger who are THE Martial Arts gods. They're 1 and 2 interchangeably. And then you can throw Batman, Black Bat (Cass) and Black Adam. Yes Black Adam. People who read his issue where he fought and absolutely decimated Batman without using his powers would know what I'm talking about.
