Jewel Thief is one of my favourite movie. This movie was released in Delhi and UP by M/s. Great Arts Pvt. Ltd., Where my late father worked as Manager. That's why I have seen this movie a number of times. Now I think that such a nice suspense thriller with best direction, best music and best actors can not be repeated in the current film industry better than the old Jewel Thief, the master piece of its time.

Vijay Anand and his older siblings, Chetan and Dev, were ahead of time and their contemporaries. Yes, Vijay was inspired by the master of suspense Hitchcock and Dev by Gregory Peck. Vijay proved he was a creative genius in his first film, Nau Do Gyarah (1957) . He was a master of suspense and twists and turns in the plot. He got the best out of Dev, Ashok Kumar, Waheeda Rehman, Kishore Sahu, Pran, Premnath and Ifthekar. Vijay was called Goldie because most of his films (Kala Bazaar, Tere Ghar ke Samne, Guide, Teesri Manzil, Jewel Thief and Johnny Mera Naam) were Golden Jubilee hits in the cinema halls of the bygone era. Sadly, Vijay did not get his due in Hindi cinema considering his awesome body of work. Hope younger generation watches his films.

Fariyal`s dance and the background music was ultimate .Vaijanti Mala!s Hoton pe aisi baat dance was also a masterpiece. Fabulous Tanuja , Helan , Anju Mahendru were also good in their characters. And above all the Story of K.A.Narayan was brilliant suspense thriller.Thank you this memorable video.

Jewel Thief is a 1967 best Hindi Spy thriller heist film directed by Vijay Anand. The film became a box office hit. It got the Filmfare Best Sound Award
It remained one of the Best film of Vijay Anand. Dev Anand gave him freedom to select the subject and its script. People even today enjoy the film. A good video by Rakeshji on the wonderful movie.

As I remember, this film was an average runner , it ran for 17 weeks in Bombay( Guide celebrated golden jubilee). Like Vaijayanti Mala most of the public didn't accept that Character of Amar is an illusion. Though it was a fantastic film really ahead of it's time. One can safely say 1966 and 1967 were best years of Vijay Anand. He gave 3 best movies of his carrier. Guide released on 8th April 1966, Teesri Manzil released on 28th October 1966 and Jewel Thief released on 17th November 1967.

Jewel Thief was undoubtedly a great suspense thriller in Hindi cinema. It was just too good. And while all the songs were excellent the last number is mind blowing. And the dance by Vayjantimala in "hothon pe aisi baat... " is the cream of cream dances in movies. Single shots of more than a minute can be seen in this song. And the complex movement by the artistes especially Vayjantimala take the breath away.

Very frankly speaking many people could not understand story of the film but I liked the melodious music of the film
Dev Sahab's movies were always ahead of it's time..and this is why people used to not understand the story. Take a example of Movie "Guide" Where they showed live in relationship that too with married woman in 1965 !!!

For your information, great S D Burman in one of his biography published in weekly bengali magazine "Desh" (Anand Bazar Patrika group) narrated, it took 2&1/2 months to compose the song " Raat Akeli Hai". Isn't it wonderful to note how the music directors of yesteryears were so dedicated to their commitment! 💐
