this episode is about some unknown facts related to 1966 hit film teesri manzil .maximum information is taken from vijay anand's biography written by writer anita padhye .
initially dev anand was original hero of the film but something happened between dev anand and nasir hussain .
shammi kapoor and asha parekh were finalized as lead pair of the film .
nasir hussain was interested in o p nayyar shammi kapoor was interested in shankar jaikishan but vijay anand selected r d burman for the film .
in the beginning shammi kapoor was not comfortable working with vijay anand but gradually they became very good friends.
during the shoot nasir hussain started thinking of putting his own name as director of the film .

To this day its title music is the best one ever composed used again when time to reveal actual fact about the murderer. RD was very fresh & still came out with such a great job demanding very high understanding of each situations including back ground music - a true Music Director in all sense, extending Burman legacy bit further!

Goldie (Vijay Anand) was a genius film maker with total command over most aspect of film making be it sript, dialogue, editing, acting and direction. Possessing unmatched song picturizing abilities. My all time favourite film maker. Making three masterpieces like Guide, Teesri manzil and Jewel thief in almost same time span speaks volume of his competency.

Brilliant Director Mr Vijay Goldi Anand ..Camara angels ...Sets ..Music ..where to fit which song in the right place & above Editing..from the first when the film starts the Camera stops on the front Car light ...mesmerizing..edge of the seat ..I was completely taken by surprise who the villain was in the movie till the end..Without Actor Shammi Kapoor the movie would have flopped..thank God Actor Dev Anand Saab didn't act in this movie as he wasn't a dancing star ..Music was outstanding..Panchem Dada was just great..no music Director can touch him...thanks for your inputs regarding the misunderstanding took place between the Director & the producer ..Sir Vijay Anand did different Hindi movie's in his career...

Actually, Shammi Kapoor was insisting on his favorite duo, Shankar-Jaikishan. (O.P. was never considered at all.)
R.D.Burman was still struggling & was not a big name at that time. So, Shammi was not very eager about taking R.D.
But, Goldie requested him to atleast listen to Panchamda's tunes.
Shammi agreed reluctantly.
There was a sitting where Nasir, Goldie, Shammi & Panchamda (with harmonium) sat together & Panchamda started playing tune after tune & reluctant Shammi jumped with joy, after listening to R.D.'s various tunes. And thus, Shammi & R.D. bonding begun & the rest is history.

Whatever may be reason, but Devsahab was very professional and never interfered in other matters like direction etc.But I think Shammi Kapoor was more appropriate in the role.

The most advantage takeaway from this film is RD BURMAN music the revolutionary music composer was born. All songs were massive hits and to suit suspense thriller chilling background score.

Actually the real thing why Deva Anand left this movie is that Devanand himself recommended the name of Shami Kapur for this film since all songs of this film were somehow dance oriented and Dev Sahib felt it right that Shammi ji was the only dancing star at that time who could do justice to all the songs of this film.

तीसरी मंज़िल सिर्फ और सिर्फ शम्मी कपूर के लिए ही बनी थी ,जो गीत शम्मी कपूर पर फिल्माये गये जरा कल्पना कीजिए यदि देव साहब पर ये गीत फिल्माये जाते तो ये कितना हास्यास्पद होता देव साहब में डांस गीतों को लेकर रिदम की बहुत कमी थी और शम्मी कपूर तो बेहद रिदमैटिक थे ,शम्मी हर मूड के गीत के साथ तालमेल बैठा लेते थे ।ये खूबी बहुत कम कलाकारों में देखने को मिलती है ।
