Hallelujah, praise God! I've also felt God making Himself known to me in that out-of-no-where bear-hug way that you describe. It's happened when I feel despair pounding on the gates and breaching the walls, alone at night, lieing in bed in silence. In faith I prayed to God, and a sudden rush of feeling loved encompassed me. It's happened to me three times. It doesn't replace the need for theology, study, and the church to know who God is, but it is nonetheless the real gift of God's presence to individuals who call on His name.

    1. Exclusivism in salvation is one of the most consistently taught doctrines in church history and I cant think of a SINGLE church father who denied it. This was so widely understood even many magisterial protestants said that only those in churches with correct confessions of faith would be saved (see belgic confession). The idea that simple faith in christ is enough basically comes from 1800s revivalism and would also include jehovas witnesses and mormons.
    2. Universalism has been condemned by the church and who ever says otherwise is a heretic.
    3. "Toll houses" or the idea that the soul is accused by demons after death, is taught in virtually every church father from early times contra the view held by many protestants that we immediately go to heaven or hell without a kind of "court".
    4. This is a nitpick but Paul says christ is the rock in 1 Corinthians... the fact that Jesus is so many places in the old testament is what gave Christianity credibility.
Love the channel though and love magisterial Protestantism in general.

Half of the Eastern Orthodox have never even heard of them, or consider them downright heresy, and no some of the wisest Catholics i've ever met who know patristics like the back of their hand have never even heard of the concept. Even the True/ Genuine Orthodox reject them in large numbers.

Finished the video, loved it! This is exactly where I'm at, stuck between those exact two traditions. Thanks to Tylar for sharing his testimony!
I understand that it's probably very hard to find interview subjects, but I'd LOVE to hear some more stories from older people who were more established in the Orthodox or Catholic Churches before deciding on Protestantism. :) The subjects of these videos tend to be very young men who "flirted" (no disrespect, just can't think of a better term) with Orthodoxy for a few months to a year, rather than those who have spent years *within* the Church. Or even attended a parish regularly for a few years. Obviously these perspectives are *totally* valid and I enjoy hearing them, but hearing from someone who was more fully formed within those traditions would be a wonderful comparison.
No disrespect to Tylar at all, but a few points he made were (not intentionally I'm sure) inaccurate/a bit too generalized. But this is totally natural! Because he hasn't spent years in a parish context, he can't be expected to know all those details. I believe testimonies from individuals with a bit more experience in the traditions being discussed would be very helpful for those of us who are discerning between the two churches. :)
All of this is said with deep appreciation for the effort and vulnerability you both put into this interview, and for your theological commitments. :)

Thank you for the kind words and constructive feedback!
I completely understand what you mean -- my goal is to host conversations with a mix of younger and older guests for precisely the reasons you state! I think its good to have a mix of perspectives shared on the channel. I've met (well, online anyway lol) several older converts to Protestant traditions who spent years as Eastern Orthodox (EOs) or Roman Catholic (RCs), but not everyone is always keen to publicly share their story on camera. The goal is definitely to have conversations with those people if and/or when they're ready, though!
I have a few interviews with older converts from RC in the channel who spent years as RCs already (and some more coming up in about a month or two!), and it's easier to connect with former RCs since RC is much larger in number than EO and especially so in the West.
Like I said earlier, though, I really appreciate the feedback, and it's something I hope to do better the more and more time goes on 🙂

What this man says about Orthodox church sounds true to me. I heard from different people that Orthodox church is very regional. Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Ukrainian Orthodox, etc. They all believe in the same God of course but if you are not Greek or Russian or whatever you feel like a foreign body in their church. However, I understand the allure because Orthodox church has the fullness of Christianity. I think that if this man had joined Catholic church which has the fullness and is also universal not local he would have stuck with it. It's a shame that he went Anglican where women priestesses and transgender clergy are accepted but it is not yet end of this man's story I believe.

We ought not be disturbed because some who do not belong or do not yet belong to this temple, that is, among whom God does not or does not yet dwell, perform some works of power, as happened to the one who cast out devils in the name of Christ. Although he was not a follower of Christ, Christ ordered that he be allowed to continue because it gave a valuable testimony of his name to many.... The centurion Cornelius also saw the angel that was sent to him to say that his prayers had been heard and his alms accepted, even before he was incorporated into this temple by regeneration. But here is a question I have regarding intercession of the saints, the veneration of the relics of martyrs/saints, and the veneration of Mary: How did these practices pop up ***everywhere*** in the church universal (East, West, Coptic, Syriac, Ethiopian) without even a hint of contention? Furthermore, how is it that we Protestants accept the orthodoxy of the Ecumenical Councils of the fourth through the sixth century church but reject these same fathers' orthopraxy (intercession of the saints, Marian veneration, relics, etc). In other words, how can this moment in the church be so trusted on doctrine but considered wrong on practical matters, if lex ordandi, lex credendi means anything?

    • @theworldtodespise
      @theworldtodespise 3 месяца назад +1

Just a random youtuber adding my thoughts. Most Anglicans would adhere to the three legged stool of "scripture, tradition, and reason". The above practices would fall under tradition. Icons were a way for early Christians to see the story of Christ. The bible wasn't available and even if it was, hardly anyone could read. So the pictures (icons) told the story. To venerate an icon is no different than to look at a photo of a loved one who has passed away and hold it close to you. It is not the picture that matters, its what it portrays. I agree that it is strange that most protestants reject so much of the doctrine and beliefs of the early Fathers, however, most Anglicans do not.

Only the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox Churches have the full presence of Christ in the Eucharist - body, blood, soul and divinity and that's why they claim to be the one true Church. In John 6:60 we read: “Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, ‘This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?’” (It is here, in the rejection of the Eucharist, that Judas fell away; look at John 6:64.) “After this, many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him” (John 6:66). As an aside and spookily, this is the only time that 666 appears in a Biblical passage! This is why I left Anglicanism - it's not about arrogance, it's about understanding Christ's promise that ONLY those who believe in this will have eternal life (John 6:53-56) and it can only be found in one of these two denominations.

Protestents believe In a true church. At best the denominations are all in the one true church not a single denom represents the one true church or one church body Is the true church. He has explained why he is doing these in other videos. Catholics and Orthodox have been platforming their conversations everywhere so to help those who are struggling with these issues and give a voice to those who swam to the other side helps create a bigger picture of the issues. I dont think it's because he just does not want to be eastern Orthodox or catholic. And those in protestantism do believe in church that Christ established the church that is visible and invisible and that includes many bodies and not exclusive to one group like Catholic or Orthodox. So the belief of a true church is believed by the prot side.
