This short Library video will teach you how to checkout out a book using the self-checkout machine.
[Self-checkout machine is shown near the entrance to the McLaughlin Library]
The screen will display three different options to choose from. Those options include “Check-out,” “Account,” and “Renew.”
To Start, touch the “checkout” option on the screen.
You will be prompted to scan your University of Guelph card under the scanner. Make sure to scan your card in the middle of the red laser so that your barcode lines up with the projected green dot.
[The red laser is projected as a long red line about the size and width of a pencil, and the circular green dot appears around the middle of the red laser]
Now that the machine has successfully connected to your account, you may scan the barcode of the item. The barcode should be found in the top left corner of the inside cover of the book.
Please ask a representative of the Ask Us desk if there is any trouble locating the barcode.
Repeat this step for each item you are checking out.
When you are finished, select done and you will be prompted to select “no receipt” or “receipt” which will include the names and due dates of your items.
[Options appear on screen as “Print Receipt” or “No Receipt”]
If you wish to check which items are currently checked out on your account, select “Go to account” or “Account” on the main page.
From there, you can press “items out” which will display the items that are currently attached to your account. From this page you can also choose to renew the items on your account by simply selecting the item and clicking “renew”.
[Touching title causes checkbox to appear and highlights in green renewed titles]
The “renew” prompt on the main page will also take you to this option.
The account page also displays your current “holds” which are items that you have requested which are still being processed.
[Holds page shows the Title and Status for each item]
The third option on the account page is - fines or charges- and this will display any outstanding balances you have on your account. If you have any questions about your fines, please come to one of our Ask Us Desk associates for more information.
If the machine is not functioning properly, notify the Ask Us Desk
This concludes the short library video on how to use the self-checkout machines.
