No Man's Sky is incredible. It's playing art. I started playing it a few years ago and put it down for a year and a half. The other month, I picked it back up. Very few things beat that sense of wonder and beauty when exploring a new planet. Trying to find and frame perfect photo opportunities, hunting for rare and unique ships, diving deep into learning each of the races languages and lore... It's my go-to game nowadays.
I completely agree! Even if it is clunky in some aspects, nothing beats the feelingsit evokes. The vastness of the final frontier and the sense of exploration, awe and wonder is top notch!
This game sparked a key change in my life. I was a young teenager, I saw the trailer, and I pre-ordered the game. After a few hours of gameplay, I finally had to accept that the game sucked, and learned to never pre-order a game again. But maybe it’s time to dust it off
Yeah it's great. They have so much to discover and do now. Hellogames, and many big indie studios made mistakes at the beginning, right now it's arrowhead game studios with helldiver's 2. But deep down they aren't bad people per se, give them time to refine their game and it will be fun.
@@itswildrush Yeah I learned that really fast since 2016. Thats when it mostly started with the fake advertisements, bad games, and more indie developers. Triple AAA Game Studios like EA, Ubisoft, Bethesda etc. I avoid, I bought some games but most of them feel like a rehearsed gameplay of older titles. Indie developers, be it small or large have the real talent, ideas and new influences.
While it's definitely not the best in any video game ever, I don't think the story was THAT bad. (Sorta spoilers below for a fairly endgame part of the story) The Artemis quest in particular really stuck with me. I just recently started a new save with a friend and today I got the first call from Artemis in that save. Now that I know what's up with Artemis I actually kinda teared up a little, and that doesn't happen very often for me. It's definitely a convoluted story overall, and I can sorta see where you're coming from, but imo saying that it's "a bunch of crap with unsatisfying results" is underselling the legitimately good parts of it.
I've also played around 100 hours of NMS on a fresh save this year. It's been amazing compared to my experience at launch. The power climb of unlocking everything is very satisfying and there's plenty of things to keep you busy for a very chill several hour session.
I have been playing NMS for about a year and a half now so I didn't get tainted by the launch. I love the game I am victim of Loot Lust and love everything I am a huge fan of base building and the base building gameplay is so in depth it's wild. I still have fun with this game and have a ton of hours on it. Also the salvaged data is supposed to help encourage world exploration a bit in my opinion as that's what I love to do anyway so I pick up a ton of it.
I too have a hot take on NMS... First off, I love the game. started playing after the Next update dropped years ago. I've seen it evolve into what it is now, and what that actually is, is a massive oversized kiddy pool. What I mean by this is that there's a ton to do. I'm not arguing that. You can go space mining for resources to build a base near your settlement that collects animal products... that gets raided by pirate attacks from space..... Here's the thing though, these systems don't connect very well. There's no real use for the animal products outside of cooking and delivering the finished products for nanites, which is not very optimal from a time standpoint btw... You can't build defensive towers at your base to help you deal with the raids so you're forced to either hide inside or jump in your ship to deal with them directly before you can go back to doing whatever it was outside on foot... The settlements are nothing but resource sinks that don't give you anything useful, unless you're a decorator and get lucky enough to get your hands on star silk as a product... Companions are useless and do absolutely nothing to actually assist you, squad mates you can hire for ship combat do next to 0 damage and just get in your way more than they help... and don't even get me started on the hype the autophage questline puts towards the staff only to find it acts just like any other multitool that you didn't have to work 20+ hours just to get... need I say more? This game has so much potential and I do not regret my playtime or purchase... I just wish it were more connected ya know...? I've done everything there is to do and there's not much more for me in the game but if you're a new player, I can't recommend the game more. Dive in and get lost, you'll love every minute of it until you get where I am in your journey with the game :D
I agree wholeheartedly with your point of connectivity between systems. It is the downside of expanding upon a foundation and I think the game suffers from it
I hope that the systems come together in more meaningful ways in future updates. You make some great points. It's a great game, but It certainly has it's shortcomings! I feel like there is room for more. The systems should be more connected as you mentioned. Food you craft could be used to make your Settlers happy, some kind of reputation system could help give more weight to your decisions as a player regarding trading and piracy. Totally agree that the companions and squad mates should do more.
It's absolutely amazing how the only "loading screen" is teleporting. And you KNOW a game's map is big when it's fucking used as the loading screen for first entering the game. Fun fact if you didn't notice btw.
I've been dipping in and out of NMS over the years. At some point I'd like to really get into it, when I have the time free, and when I think the game is 'done' enough.
I've logged hundreds of hours. If I've learned one thing - space stuff rocks, planetside needs some tlc. The entire planet being the EXACT SAME makes it REALLY boring to explore. 10 minutes after landing, you're probably done if you don't wanna build a base there
My biggest problem with this game is, that it screams into your face that everything you do is pointless. The story ends with telling you that everything is pointless in these universes. You can build bases but you dont really need anything to survive. You can do quests, but they dont change anything. You can find new worlds, but not change anything. There are 3 very basic alien races that do nothing. You can kill all pirates, but that doesnt change anything. You can collect a lot, but nothing you do has any impact to the game world, and that makes me feel kind of pointless. The game doesnt need me playing it at all, and it keeps reminding me how less it needs me xD Usually i stop playing after like 3 or 4 days, because it feels to pointless to do anything in this game.
Having read a lot of comments, I feel lile interconnectivity between content is the Achilles talom of this game. As everything is kimd of self comtained, it does feel clunky and pointless cause of that I think
I think the part were you complain about grinding makes a little sense but not much while yes base building is a little hard if you just put down a few mineral extractors on a ore vain you essentially get infinite money since you can just always grab those minerals and sell them to buy other minerals so i think the point get countered easily and the salvaged data is really east to get hundreds of once you get a car. but of course before knowing those things it can be tedious. Also you didn't even get into lost freighters which are really fun. and finnaly no mention of expeditions which are even more ways to get things and some like 9 are really, really fun
there’s way too much in this game To even touch the surface of with only 100 hours, when you start thinking “Im bored AF” You find something new, like a planet that looks way different, or The game just Draws you back in for no reason 🤷♂️ I almost got 1K hours of playtime and i play other games, but i always come back sooner or later, can’t stay away!
It's interesting that you mentioned that the story is a bunch of crap(I agree wholeheartedly, by the way)...but if you said this on Reddit(the NMS fan mob would rip you apart like a black hole.) On Reddit(NoMan'sSkyTheGame)....I politely mentioned that I want a possible overhaul to the game(to make it cinematic & bring in voice actors)...because having to read through all of the dialogue(in terms of interacting with Space Station aliens & the like)...was kind of a damper on the whole immersive quality. Up until recently...everyone on Reddit was really friendly & helpful...but when I pitched my ideas, things got ugly & I had to delete the thread. Normally....game fan loyalty is a good thing(which says a lot to the quality of the game)....but none of these types of fans can take criticism(regardless of how you deliver it.) No Man's Sky is my favorite space looter-shooter of all time( but the story telling is rubbish, indeed.)
That's exactly right! And I do think part of the blame has to be put on Sony, overhyping an indie game made by 8 people as if it was a AAA budget production!
After 150 hours... I'd say it's cool but always lacking something. Quality of life maybe? Inventory doesn't have AUTO-SORT function. Like what the hell? In game with 100193748920202 item types and subtypes. Want to hover over a planet like a helicopter in one place - only sentinel ships + starborn runner can do it😢 Want to have more weapon choices for starship? Naaah Want to have orbital guns on freighter? Some lasers on freighter that you can use vs starships or vs things on the planet? Naah Want to have CLEAR READING of your ship/multitool/freighter stats? Naaahh, here, your damage potential is 1797 - so, 1797 damage per second? - uh, no...but we won't tell you exact number of your dps - What does scanner range 1300then? - ??? Something??? I think game now needs big weapons update/f
if you buy this on sale, and on console. don't. save the money. the game is basically unplayable and super annoying. the UI still sucks. the controls are clunky. progress is super slow. console performance is dog water. all of the game content is basically not explained and you don't know what is free post launch stuff and what is the main thing. I wish sony would give me my money back. but now, I don't feel bad pirating it on pc. because I already paid 20 pounds for the worst possible version of the game. so TLDR: buy it super cheap and only on pc and only if you like the space thing.
Thats the most salty comment ive even seen on this game in my 5 thousand hours of playtime , absolutely untrue, i play on ps5 and never had a single crash, you can play with the difficulty if you are finding it difficult to play or use .

Exactly! Exploring space needs that, I think it is what primarly makes it feel good to navigate with your starship!
I've been dipping in and out of NMS over the years. At some point I'd like to really get into it, when I have the time free, and when I think the game is 'done' enough.
It has a mountain of content for sure!
@@itswildrush It has many mountains. On many planets. In many systems.
Fair point haha 😂@@Orosian5

I agree, on a planetary scale, the generation of points of interest can be really lacking

Good points, its comes down to a developers commitment to LISTEN and actually ADDRESS the players concerns!
Ok.. Gotta ask: What is that ship and where did you get it?!!
It is a sentinel ship! You can get it in if you repair one that has crashed in a planet!
You are aware that they haven't released the rest of the main quest lines yet right
Well, I have to review the game at its current state and, in my personal opinion, the main quests are quite lacking, although they have potential
