Force Sensing Resistor Drum Trigger

This video will describe how to build a very simple drum trigger using a FSR. Most drum triggers are Piezo based unlike a FSR trigger which is resistor based.

Another interesting video as usual .
FSRs are employed in modern electronic drum kits, not as triggers, but in HiHat pedals as a means to sense the degree to which the two ecymbals are open or closed.
Incidentally Ken, are you planing on doing any forth based videos using analogue inputs or OLED displays?
I'm currently experimenting with "Punyforth" which supports the ESP8266 range of boards and wondered whether you have tried this implementation of Forth and if so, your opinion on it.

Thanks for the response. I am aware of Punyforth but have not used it. It seems to be getting popular as is ESP32/8266. There is a Forth website that covers Forth code for SSD1306 Oled displays. arduino-forth.com/
I am hooked on using my smartphone as a display for many of my projects. You just have to plug in a HC-06 module and its wireless. ruclips.net/video/_5g5lC-nDy8/видео.html
For product development an OLED is the way to go.

Hello Sir.. I have Carlsbro 130 E drum kit, and this drum kit has 3 zone rubber snare..so i am trying to make 2 separate pad from 3zone snare using splitter wire but its not working, so how i can make 2 spearate drum pad from 3zone snare

Thanks for the video. I have had a stroke and my right foot doesn't move as fast as it used to. Making a drum trigger with an FSR could be an excellent option for me. I have a couple of questions, if you wouldn't mind. What is the peak voltage in the first FSR you've shown? It looks to be around 1.1v to 1.5v. Is that accurate? Also, what is that voltage dip after the FSR is triggered? Thanks in advance for your help.

The circuit was powered by 5 volts so the peak output was around 3 volts. The waveform is a basic RC differentiator output. You will have to check what your drum controller is looking for as a trigger. Some will take a piezo pad directly and others need additional signal processing. Hey! How did you get the drum sound to trigger? I got the Max for live connection kit to recognize the signal but it can only map things like volume faders, knobs etc. Which DAW are you using?

It's just an old Yamaha electronic drum kit with inputs for external triggers.

Great, sir one question : I have a drumpad that uses FSR and I want to replace them with piezoeléctric how I do it, I tried but I'm getting errors when I hit hard one Piezo it triggers others midi keys, AND the volume Is unstable, I have just conected the Piezo directly instead of the fsr, any ideas?

If your drum controller is designed for FSR trigger inputs, using a Piezo pickup may not work A FSR changes resistance as oppsosed to a Piezo pickup that changes voltage.
Check your user manual for more info.

map the output voltage (0 to 3v if Vcc is 5v) to 0-127 velocity and add either (1) a waveform generator code snippet or add MIDI output to your code to send a MIDI note/velocity based on the mapped voltage

The breadboard is Super-Strip by AP products which was introduced in the early 80's and is no longer available. It had gold plated contacts and came with a lifetime warranty.
