NYC June 28, 1969 Stonewall... the riots drew the attention of some of the Black Panthers who asked what was going on. The Black Panthers without question stood side by side with the gay community, they didnt blink at sexuality or skin colour, that didnt matter, what mattered is they stood arm in arm because it was the right thing. We ALL need to take a page of that piece of history, and STAND WITH each other because it is the RIGHT thing to do.

My husband is from Lagos Nigeria - my grand kids Dad is Jamaican - my niece's hubby is from the Philippines, all my cousins on my moms side are gay ... we are a Heinz 57 family. I worry each and every day how my family members will be treated. I am a white privileged girl from Canada, but I chose to embrace kindness and people who will rise up. I don't care two hoots your race creed or orientation.
One evening my hubby and I were driving home from a friends home and the police stopped us for a R.I.D.E. program - the cop took one look at my husband and asked me,"Mme are you alright?" I looked at him and said, "YEAH HE IS MY HUSBAND!"
Like WTF because I am a white woman in the car with a black man I wouldn't be OK!!! I was sooo angry! I have so many stories - it's so wrong!

Thank you for continuing to discuss this, Coco. I know people will complain, but it is the NOT DISCUSSING, and the sweeping this under the rug, which is why we keep seeing history repeat itself in these situations, and only when something finally gets done will we have peace. There needs to be accountability for police brutality.

I call that kind of subtle racism "casual racism". Australia is very much the same; here there have been over 400 Indigenous deaths in police custody with zero convictions. Casual racism is rife here too and it has to also be called out. What you stay silent on, you condone.

I am absolutely DELIGHTED to be discovering what you believe and what you stand up for. Brava. These videos made while "in solitude" are brilliant. You're not just making the best of a bad situation or creating content just to keep your audience engaged. You're reaching inside and sharing meaningful, thoughtful content that people can relate to. This is such an emotional topic. I grew up in Chicago. I never not once said I’m going to my black friends house, my Hispanic friends house, my Asian friends house. No. I’m just going to my friends house. I cannot believe what is happening in our country, our world right now. As a gay white man, I cannot imagine how black people feel. This type of injustice absolutely breaks my heart. I broke down balling and got sick to my stomach when I say that video of Mr. Floyd. My heart goes out to his family. Just unbelievable that the police would have done that to him. It’s just sickening. Sickening! Coco, thank you for sharing your thoughts and your stories with us. We will never be able to see what unites us if all we ever see is what makes us different. You’re in my thoughts and prayers always and we love you tremendously!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Coco! I am a Spaniard (from Galicia) straight guy, raised in Argentina, living in Luxemburgo, married to a French wife and with a British son (he was born when we were living in London). You are a drag queen from the Bronx living in LA. Everyone might think we have absolutely nothing in common. However, I am such a huge fan and I fell so much connected to you just by watching your videos that helped me a lot during these dark times. There are so many things you said about Spain and Argentina that made me feel at home or that we were soulmates in another life. Even my son's name is Rafael. My wife and I were supposed to flight to London one weekend this year just to see your show but then Covid happened. We would even pay per minute just to talk to you on the phone or skype. I hope to see one of your shows in London or anywhere in Europe any time soon. Take care.

There is a AMAZING speech that Bobby Kennedy made the day after MLK jr.'s death called "Mindless Menace of Violence". I urge everyone here to take the time to listen to it.
It is a wonderfully worded reminder that ALL of us, each one of us, no matter what race, gender, or creed, is just trying to make it through this world for just the brief moment we are here. And to be kinder to each other. That we all have a common or at the very least, similar goal.
It is available here on RUclips.
    "Violence breeds violence.
Repression breeds retaliation. And only a cleansing of our whole society can remove this sickness from our souls."

Coco, l can relate to your story, l am a gay man my cousin is married to a black man, l live in a private community on a lake in Connecticut, my family has lived here for over 100 years. My cousin and her children were visiting they were all down on my beach playing in the water and on the sand. All of a sudden a police car pulled into my driveway, they been called by a neighbor, someone who has ties going back as far as mine. She was concerned because there are no black families in the neighborhood. I was shocked. This happened about 15 years ago, now times are sadly even more divisive thanks to the leadership of he who shall not be named. Now with the passing of the great Ruth Bader Ginsburg, it ie crucial that we all get out and vote ,by mail or in person if we don't get a change in leadership l am terrified of what our country will become. Please keep up your inspirational thoughts we need you now more than ever!!

i want to thank you for this video in particular Miss Coco. Mercifully, I've been spared the more violent forms of racism in life, but it's so nice to hear you express how unutterably exhausting it is to have to frequently prove you're not automatically an asshole because of a little color (well, everyone is a color really). It's not something we like to discuss, but even in our own LGBTQI... community, (where we should surely appreciate the wicked effects of presumption) racism, or 'racial preference' has been thriving and is often zealously defended. Having to stomach it on occasion is one thing, but hearing it so often that it's practically a greeting (not into black dudes, sorry no blacks, just a preference)-it's a constant reminder that 'you're not really one of us.' It's not something you just 'get over' when it's a staple of the culture. Thank you Miss Peru, and thanks to everyone who understands or at least empathizes with this cause. I'm sure you all have your stories too.

      @John_Weiss 4 года назад

@@mickeymouse2able Yes, I know that. But that wasn't what my hasty comment was referring to.
Over the past 20 years, we've militarized our police forces in the US. And for the past 40 years, white-supremacists have intentionally been going into policing, magnifying the institutional racism into overt outright animus.
_This_ is what I meant by a poison spreading from the US for the past 20-30 years. Countries where police are already out of control see the US as justification for their behavior. Countries where the police were only marginally racist used the US as a role-model and grow worse than they would've been without American influence.
Humans aren't computers; racism isn't something we just consciously write into some flesh-hard-disk. We absorb what's going on around us, whether we want to or not. And if someone has the US projectile-vomiting its intensely-racist policing practices at their country, they *are* going to absorb it, like it or not.
Hopefully, this is explicit enough to be completely unambiguous as to what my more laconic prior reply had intended.

Over the past few days, I have went from being shocked, to annoyed, to angry that this is still happening and now I am exhausted and I feel... empty.
I'm British, so there's nothing I can do for America, and even if I was American I don't have that kind of confidence or personality that gets confrontational or speak up.
But I was brought up that we are all brought into this world the same way, and we all die the same way. Now, I also live in a part of the UK that is very caucasian, but we also have Minority businesses such as "Native Chinese" people who immigrated here to start up their own fast food take-away (which is also highly appreciated and loved around these parts) and have been in our area for DECADES. We also have Indians who do take-away and restaurants and again, the community value these people. So when I see what goes on in America, it just shocks me that a very small, white community such as mine can tolerate and appreciate our Minorities more than cities can in America can it throws me for a loop.
At the end of the day, I am nobody, my words don't matter and I have no reach. The best thing I can personally do is just to be racist myself or look down on people who are different and at LEAST call out people close to me that say things that are bad.
It just feels like everywhere you look online, especially this year, there's nothing good going on. It's been miserable and I just do not want to be part of the misery anymore. I know I am going to get shamed and called out, but at this point I am unable to feel anything. Looking at the start of humanity itself to now, and we're still seeing eachother biting at eachothers necks and fighting with one another it's got me thinking how humanity as a whole, doesn't change.
It's like a TV show that keeps repeating the same storyline over and over. The characters have stopped developing and the writers are intentionally writing in situations to cause drama and keep people invested.
The George incident should never have happened, and yet it did because someone, be it in that officers life or (if you believe in them) a comsiligocal deity, said "this is acceptable behaviour" and let it happen/occur.
What moral compass justifies taking lives, who offer 0 resistance.
Is it because "Moral compasses" are just a human conception and therfor can be taken differently.
Even IF he had committed some form of crime, there's 0 justification for the action taken. It would be up to the court of justice to sentence him but he never got that chance.
Sorry for the long post on your comment section, I hope this doesn't cause anything bothersome.

Thanks, Coco Peru!!! I stand with you on these issues of racial inequality. I grew up in a racist household, and community (one Black family, two Hispanic). Over time, I have purposely taken jobs in which I've worked with all kinds of minorities. Also, my partner for the last 17 years is Indian (from the country India). And so, I am constantly learning, and open. I want so badly to heal the gap between those who judge, and acceptance. We're all human, after all. Thanks for this message of both tolerance and also suffering. I'll continue to speak up on this issue whenever I can. xoxo

My grandson is biracial, racism has always angered me, now thinking of when my grandson grows up as a male of color, it terrifies me.

My niece is Native American and her daughters' father is African American. It can get complicated.
