During the fighting withdrawal to Warsaw, he was wounded by a strafing airplane and evac'd to Prague, then to Frankfurt where he was born. His injuries had him labeled " Front unfähig" and he was on light/ limited duty as Germany collapsed then surrendered. He went to his childhood home, hid his Uniform and Soldbuch, and assumed the identity of a Senior Sgt. That died in the Frankfurter Hauptlazarette. He went to work for US Forces and 5th Corp in Frankfurt where he was a motor pool mechanic for 37 years. He gave me his uniform a year before he died. With a large glass of Schnapps, he would describe Einsatzgruppen " Sonderaktionen" that would make the hair on your neck stand up. One of the rarest uniforms in my extensive WW2 German Militaria collection.
