- In this video, I show you how to sharpen leather stitching awl blades. This is the best process I have found to make sure my awls are as sharp as they can be. This makes my hand stitching tasks much easier to accomplish.
Last year we posted a video on hand stitching with two needles using these awls to make our holes vs using pricking irons. If you haven't yet, check out that video as well: • Hand Stitching Leather...

Brotha... Youre making some of the most helpful videos about leather work on YT. Cant thank you enough. Actual shop working knowledge from somebody actually working in the shop is priceless. Thank you for spending your time to help teach folks like me.
Ditto.
Now you can go buy that side you've been wanting. Or two.
Don video is awesome great tip. Good learning experience ❤️❤️❤️
Yet another great video. Simply explained so I can understand. Thanks
Perfect timing for me, I was googling "How to sharpen an awl" just a few days ago. I didn't find much help.
Your video makes it easy to understand how and why you do it that way. I think I'll just start calling you Professor Gonzales from now on. Thank you for the continuing education Sir.
Thank you for another amazingly helpful video. We appreciate you spending your time helping all of us trying to learn the craft.
YES!! I’ve been looking forward to this one ever since you mentioned doing it in the hand stitching video, and once again, you don’t disappoint. I’ve never seen anybody sharpen one of these awls, and to be perfectly honest, there aren’t any real surprises about how it’s done, but there’s nothing like watching somebody do it while describing their techniques, and things to avoid. Thanks a ton, man! I’ll be looking forward to the one where you sharpen the edgers.
Thank You Don, for this sharpening tutorial, very helpful :-) great work
Another great video from D.G.
Thank you so much! I have been needing this!!!!
I reckon we all drink that coffee in our shops. Good video with good tips. If I don't stick my awl through my thumb or finger every time I use them then I have done something wrong. I probably ought to just go ahead & stick in my thumb or finger from the start, get the electrical tape out to tape them up that way the pain will be over with when I actually start. LOL. Man it really hurts to that.
Thank you good sir.
Don, great video. A free source of high grade paper (which is free) is a piece of brown paper sack. It has a grit is 2500. I love the idea of using compound.
👍
What are the horns and 'cannels?' you mention. & yes along with James The Doctor ... please do one on sharpening the edge bevel tools. Its disgusting that they don't come already honed for action ...
Wooo just saw the how to sharpen leather edgers video pop up in my border ... Thank you
How clean do you get your beeswax? I am trying to get wax from smaller beekeepers.
Don, I'm a beginner. I had a copper stamp made so I can burn a stamp into the leather but the leather shrinks and distorts the leather badly. Can you please give me advice. Much appreciated. Pamela. Tasmania Australia

Are you in Waco?
Sir you are imparting some excellent tips .... but boy Oh Boy this video could have been 3 minutes long and covered the same information. Remember all sort of folks the world over have internet that has pretty average speeds and also limited download with their plan. A well prepared video will help cut the waffle
