The name was changed because vegans have such horrible reputations in so many parts of the world. Shutting down entire cities by glueing their heads to the middle of major intersections gained them more hate than sympathy.
@@cincin4515 Veganism is a philosophy, not a diet. Vegan diet would mean a diet that does not harm animals. So crisps and coke is a vegan diet, this is not what they are talking about. It should actually even be "whole food plant based"

Lactose intolerant people are lucky, since they will not suffer the long term diseases it will bring, like breast/prostate cancer, diabetes types 1 and 2, heart diseases, inflammations, etc..
A friend of mine went blind from his diet. I tried telling him many times over the years that he was killing himself. Eventually, he was diagnosed with diabetes. He still would not listen to me. He started losing his eyesight, and even his doctors tried telling him to change his diet. He ended up in the hospital a number of times. He was in Japan when he ended up in the hospital, and they put him on, from what I could tell from the photos he took of his meals, a traditional Japanese food vegan diet. His eyesight was worsening all the time. He talked about the food as prison food. The day he was released from the hospital, he immediately went to the store, bought a pound of ground meat (horse meat) cooked it up, and ate the whole bowl of meat. He learnt to use a cane and how to read braille and how to navigate as a blind person as his loss of eyesight was inevitable on his current path. Eventually the capillaries to his eyes became so clogged (as with the ones in the rest of his body, of course) that he not only became totally blind, but within the next two years, had to have his eyes completely removed. Why? Because they didn't have any blood flow going to them. Why take them out? Well, because without life-sustaining blood, they died and would start to rot. So, he got himself a pair of glass eyes. Now, I had tried to talk to him about his diet over and over prior to this over the period of about a decade. So did professionals. He refused to listen. I'm surprised he's still alive, actually, but he just turned 40, and most heart attacks happen to guys in their 40s and 50s, so I foresee a heart attack very soon for him. Don't be like my friend. Actually, I just could no longer spend any time around him as he was a strong reminder to me of how stubborn people can be; of how people would rather go blind or die of a heart attack etc. rather than change their diet.
Scocasso Vegetus This story is so fake lmao. Also I went to Japan and you'd be lucky to find vegan restaurants there. Plenty of seafood and pork in almost every dish. I was vegan at the time I visited and I had a hard time and unfortunately had to cheat.
We can see what the real drug is, that would make a person chose it over eyesight. Before reaching the end of your post, I was thinking: I couldn't stand to be around that kind of person. Too depressing.
Great video Mic! Loved the commentary and the clips. You really demonstrated the success of a whole foods plant based diet over that of all others and how the animal ag industry is so influential in all recent US guidelines making it nearly impossible for Americans to understand what a healthy diet should look like. I especially liked the people talking about getting processed meats out of school lunches. It is really unconscionable. Also, the guy who talked about his Type 2 diabetes reversal was a very powerful speaker.
Mic- FYI "neural tube defect" does not equal "being born without a brain". The most common presentation of neural tube defects are spina bifida and anencephaly. When making an argument for a whole food plant-based diet, it's important to not make hyperbolic claims like this. If we are seen as always over-exaggerating the consequences or benefits of a diet, we lose credibility.
@Jodie Masterson yes, but words matter. It may seem pedantic, but "Born without a brain" is not the same as being born with an underdeveloped brain. Since Mic presents himself as an expert in these videos, I feel we would all be better served if he cut down on the hyperbole and used more precise language.. Peace
@Lewis Blanchard you're subscribed to a plethora of anti-vegan channels and are thus biased. Mic looks great. Certainly better than nearly all the -retards- carnivores.
I hope the US follows the footsteps of Canada on this topic, but I can't see the US dumping dairy, or following Canada. The US is too bought out. That's how things work in 'Merica, sadly. It's all about the money here.
I cannot believe I used to follow a low carb diet. It seems incomprehensible to me now. Once I switched to a whole food plant-based diet (starch solution) everything just got better!
Fascinating, the event seems to have been covered well in this video. So much sifting and pruning and putting things in order, for clarity and, well digestibilty of information, I would say. Kudos. 👏. I watched only 16 minutes, will get back to the video soon but I'm sure it will be as good as the first part. Thanks a lot. The situation seems hopeful, I think.
Thank you so much for this video and the amazing clips you included. I know it probably took you ages to put this together and I really appreciate that you did that work do I could have the chance to hear what went on. I wouldn't have been able to watch all 4 hours and having it in this format was very valuable. Loved that they pointed out that so many ethnic groups are lactose intolerant. I'm an ashkenazic jew and most ashkenazic Jews are lactose intolerant something I didn't know until adulthood well after my sister and I both became vegan. We are both lactose intolerant and dealt with completely unnecessary discomfort for many years because so many adults were absolutely brainwashed into thinking that we needed dairy and could not thrive or survive without it.
Dr Garth Davis made a post on instagram after this session a while ago saying when walking out you’d think the prevalence of choline deficiency is astronomical if you listened to the industry representatives. Nice try big Egg and big Meat!
I have to say that dietary cholesterol doesn't always result in high blood cholesterol, might as well read on that because there is this common misconception that eggs raise cholesterol when they dont
I tend not to share things on facebook, but this was so incredibly well summarized I felt it was appropriate for my facebook audience of my parents, aunts, uncles, old friends from highschool, ect. There's so much content created just for vegan audiences who are already convinced. This is convincing enough for the masses. Incredible job Mic!
Broke my heart a little when they spoke about dairy. Thinking about all the mothers that are exploited for their female reproductive system. All their babies.. And here the human race is, talking about if we "should continue" to exploit them or not, for milk we OBVIOUSLY do not even REMOTELY need..
Your videos are awesome! Every day I check for new videos even though I know you don’t there won’t be a new one daily! Thanks for being such an amazing advocate for the vegan/wfpb community!

Dude, your beard is amazing. Also thanks for the great content. I'm currently eating mostly whole food plant based, but your videos motivate me to complete the transition to 100% plant based (weasel milk being the only exception).
I thought this might be a good place to share this little piece of information. Decades ago a group of meat and dairy producers got together to try to figure out how to get the public to consume more of their products. At the time, meat was VERY expensive and most families could not afford it. They developed a marketing group and named it United States Department of Agriculture - USDA. Originally this was a private lobbying group that became a part of the government. THIS is why the USDA has always been such a heavy promoter of meat and dairy - that was their original mission statement. And this is also why they are so entrenched with the meat and dairy industries. We really need an organization called the United States Department of Plants - USDP to represent the healthy plant options. I admire everyone who spoke at that hearing.Thank you for the video!
You forgot to mention the subsidies from Congress. If Pepsi makes more product than they can sell, too bad. But if a milk producer has too much milk no problem, the government buys it. It goes on the ground but the producer got paid (your tax dollars ). If I didn't know better I'd think the government WANTS to keep us sick . But, nah. .. Well Maybe?
@Wu Me yes, yes you would be grossed out...maybe not you specifically but most ppl would. Go tell a random adult who eats dairy that it's more natural for them to drink their mothers breast milk. I guarantee their reply will be "ewww that's nasty." What protein does a cow's breast milk contain that we can't get from anywhere else?
My son is 3. I pray all the time the dietary recommendations will improve before he goes to preschool. I'm terrified of the processed meats/ carcinogens they will offer him in public school if things don't improve fast. Thanks for sharing this video.
Meat as a cause of colorectal cancer is one serious myth. Here, in Africa, colorectal cancer is on the increase and it may interest you to know that meat consumption here is extremely low and rarely on the menu of many.
There's excellent research showing that red meat IS a cause of colorectal cancer and documenting the mechanisms by which it triggers more colon cancer.
Yes! Please make processed meats and dairy, at the very least, illegal. I know it's not going to happen (even cigarettes aren't illegal) but a girl can dream...

That retired cop who got his sight back is Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams!
Best speech
To be fair it's not "Vegan vs Low Carb", it is "Plant based vs Low Carb "
When it comes to diet, those are essentially the same thing though. Unless you're using the loosest definition of plant-based.
@@freshairkaboom8171 I should have probably said "whole food plant based". There is no health dimension in the word vegan, you could be vegan and live on crisps and soda. Also vegan is not a diet, it is a philosophy.
It should actually even be "whole food plant based"
Wow! Thanks for taking one for the team and watching this all the through so we don’t have to. I much prefer this highlights version than 4 hours of public comment! Again thank you!
Funny thing is that I am black and I'm lactose intolerant, which is one of the reasons why I went vegan lol
Everyone is lactose intolerant;)
Lactose intolerant people are lucky, since they will not suffer the long term diseases it will bring, like breast/prostate cancer, diabetes types 1 and 2, heart diseases, inflammations, etc..
Sure you’re not just on a plant based diet?
@@kx7500 yeah
@@gjkoolen I know many people who are lactose intolerant or downright allergic to certain foods. They still eat them.
Dr Greger would wreck any of those low carb/keto proponents.
Thank you for this Mike, I could not have sat through this how you did and I appreciate the synopsis!
Thanks so much for this incisive and amusing summary of what had to be a massive undertaking! I really appreciate all your effort!
About the only thing these people will agree on is that refined processed sugar is not healthy....
Think about that for a minute.
flexible dieters incoming
Animal industries clutching at choline straws.
Excellent editing Mic! Thanks!🙏🏼
That police officer’s statement was touching, excellent! 👏👏
Awesome video, Mic! Dolly Parton got me good. 🤣
That's awful!! Especially so since it could have been prevented!
Its true, I was the eyesight.
Thank you, Dr. Mills!! I loved all of this, but I'm so grateful he said what he did about the different carbs.
So great to have a neat summary of the meeting, thank you so much for taking the time to edit this! Must have been a lot if work!
Peace
Excellent video like always! Thank you for taking time to sift through and bring humor and highlight great points.
I dunno what it is Mic, but when you upload I get super excited to watch
@Lewis Blanchard you're subscribed to a plethora of anti-vegan channels and are thus biased. Mic looks great. Certainly better than nearly all the -retards- carnivores.
Thanks for the work that you put into this compilation. Hard to make dietary guidelines informative and entertaining, but ya did it again 😊👍
I hope the US follows the footsteps of Canada on this topic, but I can't see the US dumping dairy, or following Canada. The US is too bought out. That's how things work in 'Merica, sadly. It's all about the money here.
"...believe that somehow a greasy burger without a bun will save them"...LOL!...oh, but don't forget to "hold the pickles, hold the lettuce...."
Great job. What you're doing is sooo important!!
I cannot believe I used to follow a low carb diet. It seems incomprehensible to me now. Once I switched to a whole food plant-based diet (starch solution) everything just got better!
Methodtraining probably because you think anecdotes are good evidence
Great job getting us to speed Mic. Thanks for all of your hard work and connecting the dots to relevant studies. You rock!
Nice summary, Mic! Thx for reducing the firehose to a palatable stream, and spicing it up with your rye comments and a lil Dolly! 🌱
Great video man, thanks for putting this together for us!
The choline joke with Dolly was perfect 😂 thanks for the informative video
“It has never been my DNA, it was my dinna”
That’s straight BARZ right there 😂
Thank you so much for this video and the amazing clips you included.
Specially like editorial at 27:07. Didn’t know Dolly Parton was so passionate about choline.
Thank you for putting this together, Mic. I can see it was a significant effort and I appreciate the breakdown 🙏🏼💖
Dr Garth Davis made a post on instagram after this session a while ago saying when walking out you’d think the prevalence of choline deficiency is astronomical if you listened to the industry representatives.
Nice try big Egg and big Meat!
@Citizenthirteen what an expert you would think they would know more sources for choline definitely a vested interest.
Great summary! TY! "Apparently I had never felt normal before..." LOVE IT!
This is one of the best plant based channels.
Dolly Parton's rendition here of "Choline Choline" will be forever etched in my memory. Thank you for the literal "laugh out loud!!!!!! "
You deserve way more subs
Thanks for your videos, really useful
Absolutely best video yet!!! I’m excited to see the outcome, thanks for all the hard work you put into this!!! ❤️🙌🏼
Greger droppin' green bombs as usual!!! TAKE IT FROM THE MAN!
The Cherry picking fool. As time goes by he looks more deficient than ever. He needs to supplement more.
You did a brilliant take on the 4 hour conference!! Thank you heaps!!
I have to say that dietary cholesterol doesn't always result in high blood cholesterol, might as well read on that because there is this common misconception that eggs raise cholesterol when they dont
Thanks for your effort of highlighting the important bits of this meeting!
Appreciate it
I tend not to share things on facebook, but this was so incredibly well summarized I felt it was appropriate for my facebook audience of my parents, aunts, uncles, old friends from highschool, ect. There's so much content created just for vegan audiences who are already convinced. This is convincing enough for the masses. Incredible job Mic!
This video is fantastic! And the info and time stamps in the details = awesomeness. You've really done a terrific job on this one. Thanks so much!
i just have to say: there is a POTATO COUNCIL! omg lol
Broke my heart a little when they spoke about dairy. Thinking about all the mothers that are exploited for their female reproductive system. All their babies.. And here the human race is, talking about if we "should continue" to exploit them or not, for milk we OBVIOUSLY do not even REMOTELY need..
Thank You Mic. For all your work!
Very encouraging! Great video, thanks Mic for putting it together for us!
Science vs. Quackery.
There, I fixed it for you. :')
@Karni Vore My zest is my niche, little pleb.
Your videos are awesome! Every day I check for new videos even though I know you don’t there won’t be a new one daily! Thanks for being such an amazing advocate for the vegan/wfpb community!
Am now waiting with batted breath to see how USDA will ignore the testimonies and the science...
Great video! I went to the video of the meeting and left a comment supporting plant based diets because there were so many low carb high fat diet supporters commenting. Disappointing!
Please can you take a closer look into the low carb diet myth?
Also, please can you look at how different carbs effect health?
Keep up the good work!
Can't help noticing that the guy who boasted about losing weight on a low carb diet still looked pretty obese to me.
I am so happy you did this video!
Dude, your beard is amazing.
Also thanks for the great content. I'm currently eating mostly whole food plant based, but your videos motivate me to complete the transition to 100% plant based (weasel milk being the only exception).
Ok the Dolly Parton clip made me laugh out loud..hahaha
Excellent compilation and commentary.
The ending though 😂
Dr Michael Greger always nails it by going straight to the point.
If I didn't know better I'd think the government WANTS to keep us sick
. But, nah. ..
Well
Maybe?
yes I agree with the lady, it's kinda gross to think we're drinking glandular secretion from another animal. Gross.
It makes more sense to drink breast milk from our own human women, and yet if ppl had to drink human breast milk they'd say it's gross...go figure
True but that’s not relevant in that discussion
FollowRighteousnessNotMe. Ftw except you don’t actually take care of them
@Wu Me yes, yes you would be grossed out...maybe not you specifically but most ppl would. Go tell a random adult who eats dairy that it's more natural for them to drink their mothers breast milk. I guarantee their reply will be "ewww that's nasty." What protein does a cow's breast milk contain that we can't get from anywhere else?
Wu Me would you accept boltgunning a family member to the brain since it’s so humane to you?
this is a great video, really appreciate you pulling the best highlights
My son is 3. I pray all the time the dietary recommendations will improve before he goes to preschool. I'm terrified of the processed meats/ carcinogens they will offer him in public school if things don't improve fast.
Thanks for sharing this video.
You have to speak to the school board, join the P.T.A., find like minded parents, get your voice heard.
The least would be to label all those things as carcinogenic which they are
Citizenthirteen same dude
@Citizenthirteen that's pretty fucking hyperbolic
@Caila would you literally die if locked inside of a grocery store if all of the steak was missing?
@@caramelcupcake1275 just like the fake vegan meats, those things aren't even real food
Another amazing video, brother! Thanks for all the work you put in to spread knowledge!
Awesome piece of work. Thank you! 👏👏👏
