Just FYI Schwab checking automatically open a connected brokerage account. You don’t have to use the brokerage account but because they are not a traditional bank, the banking aspect is considered an “Add on” to a brokerage account

-ya probably got 6 months to meet the minimum spend of 5k on the regular version as well as the 10x on gas & groceries for the 1st 6 months up to 15k. Meanwhile you only get 3 months for the 5k minimum spend on the schwab version...so unless ya got alot of expenses, like a big family, large rent or a big tax bill coming up, 👀 regardless if amex will approve ya, that's a huge amount of spend to put on only 2 cards in just a few months, or ya might just end up missing out on the bonuses while doubling up annual fees & overlapping benefits, while risking the rewards abuse team coming after ya.

I get it. The 1.25cpp isn’t bad. However for my own situation, this hobby has to be about travel. If I start chasing cash back I’d rather just spend an extra hour at the office and make a little bit more and ditch this hobby completely. For some reason when I think of this hobby as cash back I suddenly get bored and rather do something else with my time. But that’s just me, not anyone else so no need to try to change my perception as I won’t try to change yours.

Get the vanilla 1st and then get the Schwab platinum. Only get it after your done with vanilla welcome bonus and then get the Schwab 1. When the vanilla version annual fee hits , cancel it unless they give you a great retention offer to keep it keep it open another year. If American express doesn't give you a good retention offer for keeping the vanilla 1 open another year, close it. You need to have at least 1 points earning card and your points will be safe. I have the blue business plus and the regular everyday that are both No annual No annual fee and they keeps my points alive when I get tired of paying the green card annual fee of $150
Yep when you apply for a brokerage account it asks if you want a debit card linked to the brokerage account (at least it asked me when I opened my first Schwab One account).
Can I transfer my points to the schwab checking account?
@@StickyJalapeno With the schwab platinum, no. But you need a brokerage for the checking account and you could transfer your points to the brokerage and then transfer the money to your checking.

I just cannot get behind the cash back Amex Schwab strategy. If you want cash back you should ditch the high AF cards entirely. You can get comparable returns on cash back cards with no hoops and no fee(s). Yes the returns may be a bit lower but at the large fees for the Amex setup (especially given that you need other cards to supplement the poor earning on the Schwab Platinum) you would have to spend many thousands for it to make sense.
The Amex Plat is for those who spend thousands on travel. People keep trying to present it as an option for the average person. By taking advantage of all the credits.
If you don't already live a travel life style or plan to live it soon. Which the Amex Plat card will compliment? It aint for you.
schwab is the only option worth going for if ur can considering the platinum otherwise ur wasting your time

The first 30 seconds was hilarious because it’s so true for many people. They don’t even bother crunching the numbers to see if this card makes sense because they don’t care. “I have a Charles Schwab branded Amex Platinum card. Don’t f**k with me.” 😂 Jokes aside, I am still on the fence about this one. I’m in a savings and investing pattern right now so I am not spending much and not traveling either. I did just open a Schwab brokerage account and I am also active duty military so I could get all the Amex cards with no annual fee at least for the next 5 years until I retire. Am I absolutely crazy if I don’t get this?
If I remember correctly, Amex no longer waives the annual fee for military. Don’t hold me to that but I would double check before making that assumption 🤙🏻

I got my Amex platinum with Morgan Stanley. $0 annual fee. You can redeem points at 1 cent per point into the brokerage account. How many points do you need to redden to get the $450? 180,000. Don’t you think it’s a better option?

If you still have the vanilla As long as you have an MR point earning card like the regular everyday or the blue business plus, your points will be safe and pulled under 1 account. Then get the Schwab platinum. If you don't do this, you're point will be gone forever. The other card you can get is the blue business plus. Both the regular everyday and the blue business plus are both know annual fee credit cards to keep your points alive.
I was approved for the vanilla platinum 12/16. I applied for the Schwab on 3/16/21. My application was canceled and I called and they said I was not 'denied' it was canceled since it was considered a duplicate application. This, as they say, since I already have a card in the platinum family I can't hold another. Is this something new?

Now I've heard there's more data points on retention offers for the "vanilla" amex platinum, but I figure there are also more regular "vanilla" amex platinum holders than the co branded ones. Do you think there is a difference in the likelihood of a retention offer when holding the vanilla amex platinum vs the schwab or morgan stanley ones that have relationship opportunities to reduce costs? 🤔
no i got a 50k point retention on mine and people that have charles schwab accounts to begin with are generally well off and dont care to even look for a retention offer

That's all good and well but not everybody accepts American Express because they're merchant fees are too high
I don’t often find a merchant that doesn’t accept them these days. But we do have many other Visa and MasterCard credit cards too

If I have a Vanguard Roth IRA, can I open a Charles Schwab Roth IRA or does it need to be a different account like the Brokerage?
Open a regular brokerage account. Wouldn't you get penalties from withdrawing from your IRA if you wanted to use the points as cash?
I opened a regular brokerage account and checking and when I converted point over it was immediately available for me to transfer to my checking and use as cash if I wanted.

The answer is no. U have to open the Schwab account and then apply while logged in. That's how the Schwab and Amex accounts get connected. U also have to wait to receive the physical card to add it to your online Amex account.

yes, if you wait until the bill comes (statement close) and the pay after that, your utilization is 10%, if you pay before it closes, then it will report 0% utilization
