Today we will be walking in Tokyo’s most dangerous neighborhood.
Kinshicho one of the most legendary areas in Tokyo. This is probably the only area in Tokyo where you would feel unsafe at night, still tons of great restaurants Chinese,Korean,Bangladeshi, Italian and many more are located here. This area is definitely not high end, if you are low on budget this area fits your bill perfectly. Night life is as good as any other area of Tokyo.

Thank you so much for watching. If you enjoyed it please don't forget to leave a comment
I am 100% Japanese and lived just outside Kinshicyo and it is safer than it used to be.
There were Yakuza in Kameido and Hirai next door, but that was a long time ago. 錦糸町はそこまで危ない街じゃないしかつて同じ位荒れていた亀戸や平井も大変治安がよくなりましたよ。
I was in Kinshicho yesterday, one of my favorite restaurant is located 2 minutes walk from the station. Thank you for detailed comment, I’ll PIN 📌 it 😊
so where in Tokyo is there a Yakuza presence nowadays?
Dangerous by Tokyo standards means unbelievably safe by any other nation's standards.
Absolutely!
Thank you for watching 😊🙏🏻
But it doesn't mean it should mean safe. Safe is safe, there's no middle ground. If someone is at risk in that area, everyone is at risk in that area.
Not if you're a woman.

Man, I love doing walks like this in Japan. I really hope the world heals soon so I can go back there and stroll around endlessly.
Yes I hope so too 😊
What’s your favorite areas in Japan?
Thank you for watching 😊🙏🏼
@@rodyinjapan I haven't been to many places but my favorites so far are Akiba, Ueno, Odaiba and Setagaya. I also love the country side. I specifically love to use the local trains. I could ride them all day long. 😂 I've also been to Osaka and Kyoto. Walking in Kansai places is such a treat! I'm planning to go to Sapporo next time I visit. Or Maybe do a month long trip and explore the whole country!
Even the most “dangerous” areas of Tokyo are much safer than most areas of any US metropolitan city.
Nah cuz that’s so true while I was in America at night I love the night time I ride my bike and do jogs every night because no one’s up to bother me but it be so dark and when I see someone behind me I automatically assume they are a serial killer and I’m about to be there next victim but in Japan when I’m in some dark ally or place and someone is fallowing me even if they where a killer they I’m like 6’7 I’ll stomp umm🤷♀️ but I live in shibuya and work in minato both city areas there is always people around makes me fell so much safer.
Yup, can confirm.
A lot of walking, I found Tokyo was like a big fun workout, never was in better shape when I left Japan
Being from Los Angeles i gotta say i didn't see anything sketchy about the neighborhood you walked through, which is a beautiful thing
Japan is pretty much safe.
Thank you so much for watching. 😊🙏🏻
@@rodyinjapan Of course - come walk through Los Angeles most dangerous neighborhood next!!!! Also when I was in Osaka i rode my bike for like 8 hours towards the ocean and i rode through some neighborhoods that felt pretty damn poor.
I used to live in Tokyo and had to move home because of covid in 2020. I miss my life there every day since I left - it was so soul crushing to leave. Your videos take me back for a moment. Thank you.
Yeah same here mate, been a long year and a half away
@@dennischapman8683 I hear ya
I lived in Iwakuni for 2 years and those were the two best years of my life. Really miss Japan, and dare I say I liked rural Japan far more than the big cities. I was looking at job positions at my company for long term work in Tokyo or Fukuoka literally a month before the COVID border closure in 2020 that put a stop to those positions. Guess I'll have to wait!
I think this walk really just confirms how safe Tokyo is. I don't think there is a single neighbourhood in Tokyo where I would feel uneasy walking late at night.
You are right compared to rest of the world, but when we were filming some guy approached us chinpira who are below yakuza, he said people have negative image about Kinshicho please talk good about it lol he was actually nice but we kinda understood the vibe since he was covered in tattoos and had full sleeves in summer lol.
@@rodyinjapan they aren't the worst people, if we screwed up with them, it will be worst.
I guess you never walked through Kabukicho alone at night lol.
@@relaxingsounds1297 Aside from a few drunken salarymen, nothing much would be happening.
Kabukicho is not dangerous at all 😭
you should talk about the neighbourhood and stuff bro, it'll make the vid more interesting to watch
great filming and camera quality btw
I’ll definitely try.
Thank you for watching 😊🙏🏻
I would say they really cleaned up Kinshicho in the last 10 years really well; the last time I was there was 2018 and I stayed at the Moxy Hotel for a few days when I was in Tokyo for work. Prior to that, the last time I walked around the area was in the early 2000's (maybe 2003? I dont remember lol) and it was kind of a run down area, but nothing really "dangerous" that made me want to avoid the area.
Also shameless plug: if you ever stay in that area, definitely recommend the Moxy hotel, especially if you're a Marriott Bonvoy member. Very unique boutique hotel and plenty of things to do around the hotel, less than 5 minute walk from Kinshicho station.
I lived there for about 1 year. it's a beautiful corner of Tokyo, very lively, lots of nightlife, of course. One of the "cheap" places in Tokyo.
Thank you for sharing your experience.where did you usually spend weekend with your friends?
I have lived in NYC for about 17 years, during that time I have not only travelled around in the US. but all over the world visiting 40 countries. My experience tells me Japan is one of the safest nation in the whole world. BTW, I used to have started to look around as soon as I left my sesidence in NYC day or night, and funny thing was that I could not stop that habit when I came back to Japan for a while.
Hah, this is where I will be staying for 2 weeks in my Tokyo trip soon. In America, women should absolutely not walk alone in many, many places at night, and some places even in the day. Kinshicho is better than some of the safest cities in the US. This video definitely makes me have zero worries.
Absolutely nothing to worry about. Compared to Tokyo standards I made this video.
looks pretty good to me; i actually hated walking through Roppongi at night because of all the night clubs and drunk people that seem to be gathering every night. too bad my hotel was nearby T_T
How was your experience? Roppongi is rough at night 😂 specially the entertainment area.
@@rodyinjapan we made the mistake of staying there during new years haha but honestly the noise wasn't the issue. i'm just not used to people standing outside trying to convince you to go in etc. and it always look so shady when they talk to us. it was also strange that alot of these people are also foreigners speaking broken japanese and it just feels way more shady? lol
Yeah I think some of the most expensive areas of the city like Roppongi had some of the most questionable areas at night, the worst being the Nigerian hawkers outside of nightclubs trying to lure you in. I always tell people if you encounter them, just smile and go about your business and do not let them lure you in. I learned from a friend who was not so lucky that by going in and ordering just a few drinks, they'll slap you with a a bill that's several hundred dollars US, and if you can't pay up, some "nice gentlemen" will escort you to an ATM outside to make sure you withdraw the money. He wasn't able to file a police report because surveillance cameras showed him "voluntarily" withdrawing money, no criminal charges could be filed.
I've also heard horror stories of those same types of clubs spiking peoples drinks, or stealing peoples' credit card information. Of course this was back around 2009-2010, so I"m not sure if its gotten better in Roppongi since then. But the following years after I left japan in 2010, every time I go back to visit, I have avoided Roppongi completely.
My advice to any foreign tourist wanting to party in areas like Roppongi is to leave their credit/bank cards in their rooms in the safe, and just bring cash. Also have enough money on their Suica/PASMO cards for a quick getaway on the train.

I liked this video within the first 30 seconds. I could feel the vibes lol.
Thank you for watching 😊🙏🏻
I was born in Paris where I was robbed by scum when I was a teenager. I live in Marseille where certain northern districts the Police do not even enter. When I traveled to Japan from Tokyo to Hiroshima I never felt safer than any other country in the world.
Yeah, I was a victim of a pick-pocket attempt (fortunately unsuccessful) in Paris. And I had a video camera stolen from my hotel room in Bangkok. And another pick-pocket in Portland OR USA, and scuba gear stolen from my car in the same city. No such problems in Japan.
@@davidmiller9436 Everything goes through education and behavior in general by this country and justice is so severe even for pickpocketing. I also heard that the Yakuza also cleaned up petty thieves
this is actually a very safe place
It is. Thank you so much for watching.
The Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho is 3 blocks from the eki. Stayed there for a week. The area has a lot of eateries and shopping. Nice!
Will definitely check it out.
Thank you for watching 😊🙏🏻
Coming from the a dude that lives in the hood. This looks nice and peaceful.
Indeed ! Never had any trouble there...
I like Kinshicho, been there few times since 2017. Have good places for shopping, many foods, and also local ramen stalls, and if u like nightlife, can choose this area for your stay in Tokyo. Sometimes, better to choose lively places at night in Tokyo to stay as tourist, such as Shinjuku, Kamata and surely Kinshicho. This place has unique hotels too. Btw i also ever dine at that restaurant, really recommended if u need halal chinese food, its near Sotetsu Fresa Inn so i know that restaurant.
Thank you for watching 😊🙏🏻
Bravo... Good video. Is this area considered a slum of Japan, or a middle class?
Hard to find slums in Japan. Thank you so much for watching. I would say this is an average area.
Thank you for taking us on a walk with you! Such a great video and so beautiful at night ❤ I'm finding your videos so useful, when I come to Tokyo, I'll be looking for a cheap place to rent and the areas you showed are not bad at all. 👍 Are you in Tokyp these days? Looking forward to your next video. 😀

Man I'd love to go and even stay in Japan for a while.
Hope you can. Totally worth it

I lived there in 2013. I saw one sketchy thing: An Indian looking dude and a drunk Japanese man were having an altercation. The Indian dude then picked up a parked bicycle and threw it at the man so hard he fell down. My roommates and i helped him up and made sure he was good.
There was also a stabbing on the train at Kinshicho station, i wasn’t there but saw on news.
With all that said i still felt safe at Kinshicho
Hmm Next Walk, Nishinari in Osaka, especially on Sunday during the homeless market. That area is very unique in Japan.
Thanks for the suggestion, when I’m in Osaka I’ll definitely be checking that place.
Loved in Kinshicho for almost 3 years from 2008, loved the place. There was a Yodobashi Camera (Japan’s Best Buy but better) right at the station. Never felt it was dangerous, but I was constantly approached by the ladies of the night to play.
Edited for spelling
Oh that’s nice. Kinshicho has one of my favorite restaurant although I don’t go there often but it’s a nice place. Thank you so much for watching.
I spent many a summers and not once did I feel unsafe. I love Tokyo
danger in terms of street crime in Japan.... its practically non-existent
Cool walk and scenery. Other than the history mentioned, unless I am missing something, this neighborhood looks like any other. As for police stops, he won't like to hear this, and I respect his choices, though if he were clean shaven, that may reduce the stops. Not saying they are right to possible profile him, but that's my 2 yen advice.
Thank you for watching 😊🙏🏻
That smooth change in pair of shoes made me realize that the video was recorded at two different times.....
Only that shot bro 😂 it started raining. Umer liked the shot so we used it.Good check bhai 😂❤️
It was so scary, I could finish the video.
Living in Seijo, Setagaya area. Every time I bring that up, people consider me a rich boy. Been hit by downhill bicycles multiple times. Had to let it slide because they keep going, so I can’t identify them. Doesn’t help that patrol officers do the exact same thing. Intent to hurt (or lack thereof) doesn’t have to exist for a place to be safe or dangerous.
Thank you for watching 😊🙏🏻
Sejio is nice especially in spring... All those sakuras... Insane.
I lived in Tokyo. I was really hoping you found something dangerous there because it’s so chillax
Absolutely!
Thank you so much for watching. 😊🙏🏻
NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER. JAPAN.
You were walking on the seedier south side of the station. Very different from the north side where there's a nice park and shopping mall for families.
Tokyo looks amazing at night 🤩
The horror!!! 🤣
So, where were yakuza when Logan Paul insulted japan ?
Or they were afraid of 3 atom bomb ?
I think we went there because we were told there was a big Daiso. I had no idea it was dangerous. Probably safer than most cities in the United States
Definitely safer than any city in STATES in my opinion. I am just comparing this area with rest of areas in Tokyo. Thank you so much for watching.
Huh? Kinshichou is dangerous? 😳
I didn't know. I've been there several times. It seems very normal.
Tokyo standards.. definitely Yes. Comparing it with the rest of the world, not dangerous at all 😂 Thank you so much for watching.
Lived in or around Tokyo for more than 25 years. Sometime during that period, I've probably been to Kinshichou, but I don't remember for sure. Watching the video, it looks not significantly different than anywhere else in Tokyo; in other words, incredibly safe by US standards. I also spent 10 years living in the town with the lowest crime rate near the Detroit area. Specifically, the place where multiple kids were murdered by a school shooter last year, Oxford. There is no comparison. Last I knew, the most dangerous place in Tokyo was Kabukichou, but even there does not begin to approach anywhere I've lived in the US. Why? I hate to state the obvious, but the #1 reason is that it's extremely difficult for criminals and crazies to acquire guns in Japan.
My local gas station is more dangerous
No wet floor sign for spills and some trash
Life in Tokyo / thebigmacblue we all love to travel. FERNWEH as we are called. Been in japan 8 times with my wife and we cant seem to stop visiting japan. Try sapporo bros.
looks nice, go to San Francisco and walk around Bayview or the Tenderloin
Rodi, didn't at least treat Umer to some gyoza? :-) It's funny, but 3 other JTubers released vids in Kinshicho this week.
Actually umer paid for everything, I’ll cover next time 😁 wow for real? Who?
@@rodyinjapan TokyoPaul360 and Lemi in Japan for sure and the other one I can't find right now. No one even hinted at it being a "dangerous" area, but reputations do abide.

Safer compared to some other of our cities
I’m around Kishincho all the time. Nothing happens there, but according to the explanation that was in the past when the government had not deal with the Yakuza.
I pinned the comment. It was dangerous before, it kinda still is. Thank you for watching though.
Japan is one of the safest countries in the world. I think it is because of the wonderful, welcoming, character of the people of Japan. They go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. It is also one of the cleanest! I never saw any trash in the streets when I was there.
Mostly its because they have monopolised crime
One of the safest & cleanest countries, I absolutely agree.

It’s restaurant bro what do you expect? 😂 soda to be $3 😂 rent is extremely high in Tokyo for restaurants.
I love the vibe of tokyo
Yessir! Thank you for watching 😊
I guess danger is relative to the one experiencing it. In Tokyo they include all types of crimes- pickpockets, graffiti, loitering, etc. So no actual danger from violent crime.
Haha I kinda agree with you but I guess you aren’t familiar with yakuza’s. 20 years ago they literally ran Japan. Even cops were afraid of them.
@@rodyinjapan Yeah but how sketchy are Yakuza really - that's an honest question. Do they have fire arms out there?
@@Kurups101 Yakuza barely ever use guns these days. In Japan it’s EXTREMELY rare to ever hear a random gunshot. I think in the almost 3 years of living here I’ve heard one bang that sounded like…maybe a gun shot. I also live only 2 stops from Kinshicho and been there many many times. Never had a single issue. In fact the biggest issues I’ve ever had aren’t from random people or Yakuza lol, it’s from police randomly stopping me to do a residency check and that’s also only happened 4 times in the 3 years I’ve been here.
Japan is incredibly safe. That doesn’t mean bad things don’t happen because they do. But violent crime is so incredibly rare that the news has nothing to report sometimes so they talk about someone random that popped their car tire whilst on the highway, or someone stealing something from a convenience store. It’s quite funny and bizarre 😂
@@JesseJapan yeah i am born & raised in Los Angeles - and i just wonder sometimes how gangs from other countries would react to seeing the criminal behavior here

Kabukicho and Roppongi look and feel a lot worse. Bother are seedier and dirtier as well.
Actually I’m living in Roppongi, about 2 minutes walk from the station. It ain’t that bad lol
Kabukicho Yup definitely.
Kinshicho Dangerous? Come on haha. I live 2 stops from Kinshicho and been there many many times. Never ever had any sort of drama or issues in any area in daytime or nighttime. Hell, I was there at 11pm just walking around sketchy/old looking areas with my friend a few months ago and not once did we feel unsafe or uneasy.
It’s crazy how the most “unsafe” area in Japan, is still safer than the safest places in most other first world countries 😂
Actually there was one place in Japan where I felt rather uneasy and that was Naniwa in Osaka. Even then, it was only because it’s so run down and full of homeless people. I still didn’t really feel unsafe just not super comfortable.
Naniwa I’ll definitely check it out. Thank you so much for watching.
No shootings and killings there. I never feel unsafe at night in Kinshicho. Tokyo is one of the safest cities in the world.
