  • MotoMan drives the E3.2 update of the ‪@Porsche‬ Cayenne, but a flavor that is a contrarian investor in today’s world: The 2024 Porsche Cayenne S. Now fitted with a 468 HP Twin Turbo 4.0 V8 that believe it or not, was engineered to comply with tightening emissions around the world however in the process, netted on road benefits that combine with other slight chassis control tweaks to improve the Cayenne, which already defied the realities of its size and weight.

    Took delivery of a new Cayenne GTS in March, the V8 engine is stunning and sounds incredible. Have had Range Rover Vogues for years and have driven sports cars and this is a perfect mix of both, put it in Sports or Sports Plus and it drives like a 911(probably better on wet and bumpy UK roads) or leave it in normal and it is great for transporting dogs and kids. Yes it is expensive but it is apparent why as soon as you drive it hard, smile inducing acceleration, handling and of the course the sound of the V8!

    This is why i can't help but love porsche. They backtracked on the whole screen thing and actually put hard buttons back in. They learn from their mistakes and have no ego (cough, ferrari, cough). That dedicated A/C compressor switch was brilliant. Great looking car too in that spec. All they need to do is cut some weight off that thing and put a PDK in and it would be the perfect SUV

    • @joetacchino4470

      Disagree on the PDK. It does not suit the Cayenne nor does it need it. Everyone moans about it. I own a 911 with a PDK and a Cayenne with the auto. When I drive Macans with the PDK….no thanks. PDK for the Panny and the Sports Cars. Not the Cayenne

      That proves the point that Porsche is lost: their only EV SUV product is a 2030 vaporware, that for it's proposed date, size and price, it will be better for them to sell an EVTOL. When one consider options like the Eletre, the Ocean, and the Polestar 4, this Cayenne is a true dinosaur.

      The Macan loaner I was provided recently felt much more nimble than our Cayenne but the two models are targeting different buyers. The Macan is more of a 2-plus-2 due to it's cramped rear seats. The Cayenne's rear seat area is limousine-like in comparison with much more leg and head room. It's rear seat backs recline and the entire rear seats can be moved fore and aft. There were also safety and convenience features that were available on the Cayenne when I bought it last summer that were not available on the Macan, e.g. wireless Android Auto, LED matrix headlights, InnoDrive.

    I recently picked up my new Porsche Cayenne GTS Coupe that I ordered in August 2022. It cost $261K NZ which included $5k clean car tax and $7.5k for full PPF. It is All Black apart from the red brake callipers. Inside is black as well. It now seems an absolute bargain. I went on to the new Configurator and specced the S up to what my car has and it came out at $273k NZ without the PPF, the radar detector, the clean car tax and the car insurance which all were included in my list price. To top it off, the S isn't a GTS and the lack of a gear shifter in the new S leaves me cold. It's a shame you can't put a photo on comments. Needless to say I'm so pleased to have my GTS in the pre facelift guise.

    Excellent review as always. You've always been on the money about the recent tendency by many makers to place nearly all dash functions on touchscreens, especially the most frequently used ones, instead of buttons and switches, which are both easier and safer to operate. On the gold standard for 3-row SUVs, interesting that you state that the gold standard is the Merc GLS and nothing else! 16:22. I say interesting, because most of the tests I've seen go for the BMW X7 over the GLS. So, I wonder if different testers judge cars to different criteria.

    Hello Motoman! I am a big fan! Great review, as always! Please reply to this question, which other viewers may also find valuable. You state that the PERFORMANCE options transform this vehicle. When considering building / optioning a 2024 Cayenne S, how would you prioritize the "Performance" options beyond "Adaptive Air Suspension including PASM" @ $2,390, which is mandatory to enable the other perrformancce options? "Rear Axle Stearing" @ $1,280? PTV+ @ $1,500. "PDCC" @ $3,590? Would excluding one or more of them be a mistake? Including the Adaptive Air Suspension, the total cost of these four performance options is $8,760.

    Elephant in the room, the fakakta shifter!! (Even more than the 992 PDK if that was possible). George, unless I missed a mention (possible), there must have been a codicil in your first drive contract with Porsche "No mention of the (fakakta) shifter. Sign here, bitte und danke _______."

    The people of the past would be confused as their notions on SUV were of the agriculture variety. Modern day SUV/crossovers of today no longer share the outdated body-on-frame construction of truck-based SUV’s. Only sports cars and sedans would have the more lightweight and modern unibody design that improve handling. So the idea of Porsche SUV would’ve shocked people from the past as it is very spacious like a wagon with the height of an SUV. Crossovers are just wagons made sportier. Despite purist hating on the SUV/crossover trend, this body style is not a trend. It is here to stay. The wagon design of a crossover SUV is modernity and the way of the future.

    It’s not the gold standard. The BMW X5 M Competition is the standard, period. For 15K less, you get a German super SUV that is the second to third fastest SUV today, behind the Cayenne turbo GT for 200K plus. The M is more equipped, luxurious and of course more powerful than any Porsche SUV, except for the turbo GT.

I owned a Taycan (couldn't wait to get rid of it), wife has a Panamera (boring), driven Macan and Cayenne loaners - but nothing can come close to the 911. OK maybe the 718. I'm OK with these VW boxes on wheels as long as it allows them to keep making 911's.

      @sandiegoavgeek6 Год назад

      (my random personal opinion) But I think for the sake of maximum profit to be able to continue making the 911, porsche should minimize the amount of cayman/boxster models (there really only needs to be a 4 and an S, both small n/a F6s), drop the Panamera sedan, and cut it down to only a coupe and the wagon (also that should only have 4 (2.9T) and 4s (4.0T) trims) then maybe combine the macan and cayenne into one model? Something with the same amount or maybe even more interior space than the cayenne but retaining the macan's pdk. Then for EU emissions regulations reasons go all in for a SEPARATE EV lineup.

      @@zoner__ , look it is highly polluting mining the minerals and heavy metals for the batteries , they are coming from 3rd world countries , children are being forced to work in mines barefoot and most miners children and adults are barefoot mining highly toxic minerals . Where with these minerals go when batteries are depleted , some say they will be recycled , however if we look to so called recycling programs in counties , states and cities those plastics etc. are just ending up in landfills .
      Then there is the issue of where does the electricity come from to charge these batteries? It comes from oil , coal and nuclear . We already know how toxic solar panels are , where do they go ? Landfills , those toxins and heavy metals will end up in the water supply. California wants to force people to go EV by 2030 when they do not even produce enough power as it is with their rolling blackouts and brownouts , telling people not to charge their cars .
      Then there is the real reason EV is being pushed , it is coming from the WEF , who’s main reason for getting governments to force EV is to limit peoples ability to travel , pushing the idea that man is causing climate change , which is a lie . We have .004 co2 in the atmosphere, at .002 plants and trees will die , the science is false, it is complete pseudoscience pushed by elites who want to force people to live in cities , owning nothing, eating bugs , and working for them for free , while they get to enjoy the rest of the planet and eat steak .
