- Lord You Gave Me A Mountain by Marty Robbins
Lyrics:
Born in the heat of the desert
My mother died giving me life
Despised and disliked by my father
Blamed for the loss of his wife
You know Lord I've been to a prison
For something that I'd never done
It's been one hill after another
And I've climbed them Lord, one by one
But this time you gave me a mountain
A mountain I may never climb
It isn't a hill any longer
You gave me a mountain this time
My woman got tired of the hardships
Tired of the grief and the strife
Tired of working for nothing
Tired of being my wife
She took my one ray of sunshine
She took my pride and my joy
She took my reason for living
She took my small baby boy
And this time you gave me a mountain
A mountain I may never climb
It isn't a hill any longer
You gave me a mountain this time

I just found out that my mother shared the same birthday and year as Marty Robbins. How nice to know.
I doubt anyone will ever match Marty's voice. He's in Heaven leading the choir.
“We love Elvis, this hasn’t got the same umph has it, Elvis sings it with gusto” - Mum 2022
@@joeharris5990 True enough. Different artists - different takes. I've loved Marty Robbins since the first time I heard him sing and Elvis too, actually. That was seven decades or so back. Their renditions, while different styles which fit them well, each give me a lump in my throat and my eyes to become a bit damp. Best to you (and Mum too).
@@joeharris5990 When Marty took on my cousins (The Glaser Bros.) It was a perfect storm, so young the bars he played they had to get off the stage in between songs.Jim recorded El Paso with Marty.
Ya he is, and believe in God, go to Heaven and hear him again✝️✨✝️
I cried the day you died Marty. I was 14 and I have spent my years listening to your music and wishing I could have seen you in concert and shook your hand.
I'm 81 years old and didn't think music could send chills over me any more! Listening to this did!
70, remember El Paso? Heard it on my radio fell madly in love.❤️❤️
Amen. Me too
Another amen. Me too. This lady loves Marty Robbins and especially this song.
This song will forever be etched in our hearts, once you reach age 61 and a being a Mother of one son, and he moves away, not knowing when he'll say, "hi" again, it hurts. Marty Robbins wrote this song and Mr. Elvis Presley sang in his "Aloha, from Hawaii" just another example of how beautiful this song is. Hello to the future. Enjoy.
There is no one likes Marty, he was the most popular singer during his times. I always listen to him, he had good voice on any songs.
He was an equally good songwriter.
A truly wonderful song. Marty Robbins delivers a mesmerizing performance.
He was one of the best❤
I listened to Elvis sing it with fire and energy. But hearing Marty, I can feel dreary, exhausting, and sad weight that a man had underwent through his life, attempting to hold onto the very light and meaning of living, but problems always came back to get him. Tragic and beautiful, gotta love Marty for creating characters and bringing a song to life.
I just got through telling people on the elvis version this is better. It just is. No disrespect to the king, but Marty Robinson is better.
@@ju87stukadivebomber87 My dad did a good job on this. Brings back some wonderful memories.
Amen. Both sure got their message across to us..
Evis version can not compare to Marty's
joel, I think you nailed it. Marty brings out the exhaustion and sadness of this truly unhappy situation.
Marty robbins is my husbands cousin.what a great singer he was.

Marty Robbins was one of my Dad's favorite singers. He always put Marty's voice up there by Elvis's in ranking voices he loved. Marty is gone too soon.
My husband 's band got to play back-up for Marty, in Florida, back in the 70''s--He said Marty sure knew how to have a captive audience!
Hello Margie..

All the best ❤
Praying for you, stay strong ❤
keep the faith
Marty lived his life knowing it would be shortened because of heart issues, and he lived it well. His songs tend to be powerful and inspirational, and are all beautiful musically. His performances were very dynamic. In his spare time he was a competitive auto racer. Everyone who knew him admired his drive and positive attitude. His poetic tribute to Marizona, his wife, (My Woman, My Woman, My Wife) is a favorite of mine. What a strong statement it makes. Jesse Jones, I'm praying for you.
Nice to hear a version that highlights the singer instead of the orchestra.
This is what music is SUPPOSED to sound to sound like!
Agree
Bill Widner you are so right.
Right to my heart
Love listening to his beautiful music and voice we lost a great singer but his music will live on forever
Delta Dawn

YES he sure did. You can hear it in his songs, he may not os actually exprencied everything he sang about, but his voice, and his personal touch made you feel like he did.
This is a powerful sad song can you imagine if all of this happened to one person... Only God can give you the strength to go through.
Marty Robbins unbelievable voice takes you to that mountain!
I cannot climb that mountain. Motor Neurone Disease took my husband
I never thought I'd hear a better version of this song than Elvis's.
I absolutely love Marty Robbins. I grew up listening to him. A voice from heaven. Rip MR. MARTY ROBBINS
and From the sound of so many of his songs "sounds a lot like Experiences"

RIP Marty. Beautiful song. ❤
Elvis always said Marty was his favorite singer.
This song brings a tear for sure....
+P Hopkins Elvis said his 1st choice was Sonny James as his mom liked Sonny.
P Hopkins elvis does this song to perfection . marty not bad but no elvis
Elvis' favorite singer was Mario Lanza second favorite Roy Orbison
@@frankfurfaro1885 come on , Marty 10 times better then Elvis, he wrote his songs and sung them. Elvis didn't write shit. I like Elvis don't get me wrong but he was no Marty Robbins!!!
that would explain a lot then
I love both versions of Elvis and Marty. As far as I know Marty Robbins had a happy marriage still he wrote this painful lyrics. Elvis sang it with more emotions because he knew what it's like to lose a family. Beautiful song, great singers.
Lets not forget Gene Watson at 80 can still knock the candles out with this song. All great I think Marty is best. Mark Howard Osage Co.(Ubeensnakebit)
Marty you have stood above in a crowd of 15 years of searching for music that touched my heart.
As someone who's kept on climbing, and isn't so sure they can climb any more, this song hits deep
The most poignant song he ever sang. He and George Jones were the greatest country singers of their time. RIP Brothers
Nobody can do it like Mr. Robbins. No matter how hard they try but they could take a lesson or two from the legend!!!!
I'll be a fan until my death.... I love Marty Robbins and his songs. Thank you for bringing this to us!

He may be gone but never forgotten. ive always loved Marty Robbins. Music and his Voice
Hello Nancy...
So beautiful I’m close to tears. What a sad message! Thanks Marty for this song. You will always be remembered for your voice and music!
I know Marty Robbins from the gunslinger songs and this song because of Elvis. This original is very moving. Elvis always seeked out moving songs with great lyrics and put his style to it and it was a concert favourite. This original is equally great, it is the original after all.
The one and only Marty Robbins.
The first song I ever heard by Marty was "White Sport Coat". I was a very young girl, but it sure impressed my older sister, and the memory of her cranking the radio up, swaying to that song is such a fond memory. I probably swayed to his music for a good portion of my youth, and what a talent we lost when his voice was silenced.
Wonderful song!!Excellent Singer!!!He definitely was one of the best Singer/songwriters ever...
can't stop playing this song. It's great
He had a fantastic voice. Saw many of his shows in person and was an excellent entertainer !!!
I just adored Marty Robbins and the best song that he ever recorded in my opinion was My woman my woman my wife it reminds me of my mom the tough times that she ensured. I cry every time I hear it.
.
Marty Robbins will always be known as a classic. Great voice that could move a room to think of better things. RIP Marty you have climbed that mountain this time

He sung it from his heart. I can feel the pain. So sincere!
A man and a train also is a beautiful song sung by him.. touched the heart of multiple that relate by experience.. a genius he was in doing so..
I had never heard that song "A Man and a Train" by Robbins. So, I found it, and listened, wow, you are right, a beautiful song, sung so well by him! I really believe, there are few that could sing that song, and make it touch the heart as only Marty Robbins could.

This song, this song right here ,hits a heavy note in my Heart
THANK YOU
MR. ROBBINS
Thank you so much for posting. Before I retired from the business years ago. I performed this song in my show. It was my Mother' s favorite. While on the road, my wife showed up at the venue I was performing at. Knew something was wrong. My Mother had un-expectually passed away. I had talked to her the day before. Thank God the last words we ever spoke to each other was I Love You. When I returned from the funeral and back to performing. I intro' d one song. My band went into Moutain. Blessings
why 51 unlikes? I love older music better then new music. I would rather try to practice that. stile of music even tho I am only 20 I was born in. October 2 1995.
Marty Robbins has always been my hero. I still have every album (yes, album) he ever made.

Marty the unsurpassable voice no other can match or come close to this unsung hero of singing
zeer mooie song
Often the most deeply felt music comes from the depths of a heart which has known much pain and sorrow.
THIS IS A GREAT TRIBUTE TO A GREAT HUMAN BEING...MARTY WAS (is) TOPS IN MY BOOK...MAY HE R.I.P.
One of the best country singers of all time back when country was real. he put his heart and soul in each song. I saw him live in Kingston Ont. and again in Nashville at the Opry one night after he won a race at the track. I will never forget.
have you heard his son sing, I
have him Ronny Robbins saved to!
My first choice for my Mother's Day May 14th today is Marty Robbins song dear to my heart A mountain to climb such sweet voice Lord
Learn something every day. I had this record by Frankie Lane. As a DJ I eventually played the "new" version by Marty Robbins. Today I learned that Marty actually wrote it. I guess he had been keeping it in abeyance and finally recorded it. Cool!
