3:30 I got Excavator for my 9th birthday in 1986.
The pneumatics were a bit slow and weak (it even used rubber bands to help lift the arm) so a trick I uses was to move two of the valves in the forward position and one set to the back, this allowed you to move the excavator arm by hand without using the pneumatics.

When he says no pressure to subscribe while the pnumatic cylinder is moving (due to air pressure)😂🤣 at 1:01

The moment when you realize you got that alien space station ss a kid but it is now long gone, disintegrated into its pieces and scattered across multiple boxes of Legos.
The airsystem was kinda wacky tho the aliens got stuck alot and the stiff tubes would twist the station around.

the 1x11 pneumatic cylinder is also featured in a new tow truck set aswell as can be bought seperately from the pick a brick webshop, together with a handfull of other pneumatic parts!
I haven't seen LEGO sell individual pneumatic parts since the early 90ties and only in their physical shop in LEGOLand in Denmark. So this is really huge!

  • @niekk85

I don't understand the reasoning behind the long cylinder you use. It should stay rate because it's why the arocs set is in demand. That set us so good it'll stay a classic even if lego flushes the market with those cylinders

What is the set number for the Pneumatic Excavator? The only one listed anywhere uses wheels, not tracks. It also doesn't use the threaded axle. I have several of the threaded axles and nuts to go with them. I asked people at the LEGO factory in Billend,DE and nobody had ever heard of a threaded axle.

I think my first pneumatic set was the 8040 or 8044, I had a couple of those distribution blocks, for some reason 12 year old me decided to tear one open to see how it worked... which made it never work again :P
Inside it was just a simple rubber flap valve, with a domed recess, and a flat surface for the valve to seal against - you'd push or pull air into the central connection, the the other two connections were positive pressure, or negative pressure. (internally the flaps were fliped on the different sides) - so one side would run the external connection to the domed recess, the other side ran it to the flat surface.
Now that I've written this 30 years after the fact, at least the distribution blocks sacrifice was education to perhaps one more person... (still not worth it!!)
