Great detailed breakdown - thanks mate! Love how the new model fits on the A7s III, and I’m tempted to sell the old model for this (GAS is building) 😬!
You have some very interesting accessories. I had ordered the SmallRig Cage 3181 for my A7S III which is the same cage but with a top handle included.
You will love it
Just ordered the last one! As soon as I did -out of stock! Lol. Supporting this channel.
Thanks you will love it.
That is a stunning cage, looks like military equipment!
I know I love it.
Very helpful. Didn't know about the Arca-swiss plate that bolts into the bottom. Have you tried the half cage? It comes with the Arca plate built in.
No I haven’t
Dang! I just got the previous cage, might swap though. Love the attachments especially the ninja v and hdmi.
I can see the npf mount on the side of my tripod feeding the dummy.
I like having the wireless go on the cold shoe but have found myself wishing I could mount it vertical instead of horizontally so I can see what I’m adjusting when the tripod is up high.
Thanks David
Thanks for watching
got that hdmi adapter from smallrig and I lovveee it, perfect for eveyrthing specially gimbals.
Yes it’s amazing
@@DavidOastler yup, Also got the same kinda battery plate but its from PowerJunkie, has usb c , two usb 3.0 and DC out
Cool
Anyone know if this fits the Sony Alpha 1?
Great reviews on back-to-back days. When do you have time to shoot anything? Are you neglecting Kerri? Thanks so much, and keep them coming.
Lol
It’s so annoying manufacturers not allowing to run cameras directly from USB-C connection, the USB specification would definitely allow to do this. This would completely eliminate the hassle of using a dummy battery, just connect a sufficient power bank via USB-C and be done with it.
Does the handle still fit when using the hdmi clamp great video
I don’t think it will.
Great stuff as always! Do you find the cage makes it hard to change the mode dial? I wasn’t sure if the old cage would be better than this new one in that regard.
It is still a little awkward
Thanks for the video David. The dummy battery seems like a cool idea but I wonder how well it works in real life shooting? Have you used it for some shoots now? The side mount seems like it would interfere with holding the camera while filming (do you grip the battery?). Top mount eliminates the possibility of using a Ninja V and wouldn't a bottom mount make it awkward to set down the camera?
I actually only use the dummy batteries in the studio
can it fit to A7RIII?
David, what model is the Anton Bauer battery? Is it the Anton Bauer NP-F976? Where dd you buy it in Australia? Thanks.
It is the NP-F774 it came with a product I purchased I do have 2 genuine Sony NP-F970
Nice video. Is anybody knows if the smallrig cage of sony a7iii can fit to a7siii?
I’m pretty sure it won’t fit.
The old cage had a nato rail built in on the left side. does this new cage have the same built in nato rail? I use a quick slide on nato handle rather than the screw on.
Yes it does on the left hand side.
@@DavidOastler thank you - and is this available now or shipping later this year?
I purchased it 2 weeks ago so they must be shipping now not sure if you will have to wait fir stock though
David, you have to look at the 8Sinn-Cage
It looks great
Hi David, does that wooden handle work better than the nato rail in regards to not getting in the way of the flip screen?
Hi yes it is a little better
@@DavidOastler awesome, thank you for the response. I noticed in another video you have used the left wooden handles with the rosette attachments that are more suited to human hands.
How do they compare in regards to stopping the articulating screen?
Thanks for the help.
I can’t remember to be honest it’s best to watch the reviews I did
@@DavidOastler okay no problem, I’ve watched them all but didn’t see you mention it it gets in the way of the screen. Will keep doing some research.
@@brandonstephens2809 I’m pretty sure they were all ok the best one was the one that had 2 screws that attach to the cage I can’t remember which one it was though lol
I don’t like bulky cages, but this looks great, and has my GAS going 🤣
It’s actually the best I have seen for tight fitting
Any idea if this would work on an A7RIV?
I would not risk it it is such a tight fit.
Hi,
Does it fit a7IV perfectly?
I’m not sure
HI David, Sony a7iii got new firmware 4.0. checkout.
David is it worth buying again. I have the pro bundle with a wooden handle.
Yes it is Tommy it’s lighter and fits so much better
@@DavidOastler Great! That's the sound of money leaving my account. Thanks.
It Looks like the top handle is different also right? Can I use the old one on it? Thanks!
Lol you will like it
@@tchlin I just tried this one and it worked but if its different you would have to check.
I wish they would give buyback credit when they create a newer model in such a short time.
That would be great
As I see it, these cages are dirt cheap. Got the first one, just ordered the second one.
It’s a great cage
How do you close the battery door with the dummy battery...
You can’t with the a7siii you can take the door off though
@@DavidOastler I don't think I'm about to start taking battery doors off my new A7s3. I'll be honest I have never been a fan of cages... Sony spends all this time reducing the camera size and then we have these cages with people attaching all sorts of stuff... lean and mean.
@@thetiredtourist3927 you should check out the new Sony FX3. It’s the same as an A7S iii but with a facelift that eliminates the need for a cage. Would love to hear your thoughts on the concept David.
Guy from Byron Bay
I like it as the hotshoe is not strong enough to hold anything like a monitor
It’s not for me as I love the evf
cool.
every thing good EXCEPT dummy battery.
if anything happens the camera WONT save the shot first.
so silly is this idea of dummy battery that if anyone's shooting for me I won't allow it. it's just too silly of a risk.
use a power adapter and a battery. much safer
It can help with overheating though
@@DavidOastler nah its too risky. I would seriously flip my lid if one of my shooters were using a dummy battery 😅
As a buyer of the original version It's a little disappointing that if I wanted this "upgrade" i'll have to buy it again.
Yes I know this is much better then the first.
Ya i really want to advertise for small rig. Big red logo thats stupid, u tool, you should mention the older cage is better and half the price
Lol
