    Hey, put your luts into the creative tab and after that correct the shadows and highlights and other stuff before the lut from the Basic Correction tab.
    The important thing in the creative tab is that you have control over the intensity of the lut.

    Great video man. Funny / I tend to enjoy PP0 esp for run and gun. After the destruction of internet compression etc, it fits my needs fine. Enjoy s cinetone but after tests with a poll, surprised to see everyone pick the PP0 image over Cinetone! Overall really like all the options we have. It’s such a great beast able to do almost everything you need.

    • @seandewispelaere
      @seandewispelaere  3 года назад +1

      Travis, what's up?! Glad that no PP is working well for you. I assume the polling was due to the added contrast vs cinetone? I've had similar results with polls where people tend to prefer higher contrasted images.

    • @TravisVarga
      @TravisVarga 3 года назад +1

      @@seandewispelaere yea, PP0 seems to be a bit more contrast and ‘warmer’ on the color spectrum than Cinetone. I also think it’s preferred by the ‘normies’ lol cause now we are so use to seeing hi-res 4K super vibrant video or ‘iPhone’ footage, which also tends to be warmer and more saturated/contrasty.
      So I think it’s a overall a style gaining more popularity due to just being more use to and comfortable with it and whatever the general population sees on a daily basis.
      Great work and please keep it up! I’m getting @geraldundone vibes

    Great vid Sean! Production quality is impressive with the animations and info cards in the video! Have you noticed any problems matching S-Log to S-Cinetone in regards to the baked images being different? For instance, some kind of compromise for using S-Log to achieve an S-Cinetone look with slightly better dynamic range, perhaps at the expense of the smooth highlight rolloff. Would it usually be possible to replicate as long as the dynamic range is greater? It's a difficult concept for me wrap my mind around still, haha, but it's in theory about being able to make an S-Cinetone LUT for S-Log without compromise. Thanks for your insights in the video! Have a nice day dude.

    Very interesting. I've come back to this video after a year or more to consider again the differences between sLog and S-Cinetone, and, of course, your modified version of the latter. But one question strikes me now, about 'base' ISO. When you demonstrate how the noise vanishes in sLog at 12800, the noise seems still to be pretty well controlled at a stop higher also, certainly in comparison to how it looked at a stop lower (i.e., 10000). Does the stop above the higher 'base' ISOs benefit in some way from proximity to them, or is this just an accident of this particular picture profile? I hope I'm making that question clear! Many thanks again, either way, for a very helpful video

    I am going to take a wild guess (only 1 minute in the video) and say you're filming in S-cinetone.

      @@seandewispelaere Yo! (I'm commenting here to prevent spoilers haha) that is dope what you did there! I came across the same problems as you where I love how easy, simple, and clean S-cinetone is and I think for youtube videos where I want a quick edit, I'll send it out there. Also filmed it with a dance team where we were dealing with inconsistent lighting the whole time and it would leave weird color of skin, so that would be another time to use it.
      Where as in daylight where I film a ton of weddings, I used it on a improv shoot with some friends outside and it just didn't hold up as well and I love the creative color freedom I have with Slog-3 in those type of videos. I'll test out your custom made profile for sure! Great content man!

    S cinetone still seems to have the slight Sony green skintone straight out of camera. But not as bad as previous cameras/profiles. I think your Combo actually has the best skintones.

      Agreed, Patrick. I recently started dropping the black level to -3 and have been liking that as well.

    Hey Sean, I didn't see the DUAL ISO Values for S-CINETONE on your table, would it be then that only ISO 100 is 'native' is that PP ? Great Work BTW!

    Ha ha! It’s obvious you didn’t give S-Cinetone a fair shake and couldn’t wait to play around with all those bullshit phantom luts. Not at all a fair objective comparison so why bother then . I have seen several great videos on S-Cinetone that did it justice. Shooting at ISO 100 and dimming your light down to 11% and then being disappointed with the result really??? Many experiences videographers rave about S-Cinetone but they did their research and experimented with it over some time not 10 min like you. I USE S-CINETONE A LOT AND HERE’S WHY:
    Cinematic look right out of the box!
    S-CINETONE was first released in the Sony FX9. A high end video camera and was used to model the colors from the Sony VENICE which is Sony’s premiere cinema camera. It has less dynamic range than the SLOG variants but also comes with a much lower noise floor, stronger contrast in the shadows with a more forgiving curve in the highlights. S-CINETONE is designed to be a perfect happy medium.
    Don’t worry. SLOG2 and SLOG3 are not going anywhere because when shooting on larger productions, series projects, etc, you will want the most flexibility over your image. Even if that means spending the needed extra hours dealing with noise, massaging colors in place, and creating a “look” rather than the built in Sony Venice look and feel.
    Sony took the characteristics of s709 and created S-Cinetone, which provides images with a more cinematic look in tone and color for the video world than Rec.709.
    There really is no clear winner when it comes to Sony SLOG3 vs. S-CINETONE. It’s up to the user and what the shooter is after for their creative process. S-CINETONE for a faster, pleasing and more efficient experience, and SLOG3 for the best results possible although quite time consuming.
