This is the best test footage i've seen for this camera. Thanks!
This is my first view of your videos and I must say, I'm impressed. thank you for the brief but informative revue. great job Steve!
Turn up the LCD brightness and backlight. That will help big time!
Here we are April 2019 and I’m probably going to purchase this cam. I’ve got a wedding at the beach this week and this thing still looks incredible for the price.
Same for me, the demo was great and the price as well. I have to get one also.
I like how in the beginning of the video there's a millisecond of you saying "Hey" then cuts to the intro
Lmao right
@MrB0gart its focusing on a scratch it has on the lens
he*
@MrB0gart What the fuck are you even responding to Garry's comment for? At LEAST make a solo comment asking for help. Your question has jack shit to do with Garry's post.
Garry, he's a tech guru. He knows how to edit video. Thanks.
Good coverage of what to expect...wind, background noise, bright outdoor light and low indoor light.
Thanks for the review.
Thanks Tech Steve for your awesome presentation.
Thanks for the video...was about the flip the switch on the much more expensive G20, but the video quality on this is good enough!
Good review... straight forward, no frills... thanks man!
Thank you for the straight and frank review.
Thanks TechSteve! Perfect review for me to determine if I want to buy the R800. I've been using a GoPro for shooting vacation videos, as I like the fact that the GoPro is so compact & can carry it around in my pocket. But the drawback is that the GoPro has a fixed lens--so no zoom capabilities. That's why I'm considering something like the Canon R800 so I can zoom in and out.
This was really helpful, especially when the trains went past cause my channel is based off trains! It showed that it will work for what I will do with it. Thanks!
Nice review. Thanks. Helped me to decide.
Awesome review thank you and super helpful
I very rarely leave comments on videos, but I have to thank you for this one, it's the best video I found so far on this camera, which I'm very much interested in buying. The only thing I didn't like about this camera, and I have seen other videos about it, is the mic...
Most people use after market mics anyways to get better sound. I only use the camera mic to sync my footage since I use 2 cameras on my videos.
Hello Steve, thanks for your description. Please advise me whether the wind effect can be eliminated using any good external microphone with noise limiter ( please advise microphone model for the same which fits well with the camera) , and secondly how is the stability of the camera at full zoom?
I just subscribed too. You did a great presentation. Straight forward and very informative.
The external mic you plugged into unit, was it a powered microphone? I liked the vid you did, good job!
Helpful review. Thanks.
Steve, Can you hook up an external field monitor to this camera using the HDMI?
Good review, not being able to see the viewfinder in daylight is a deal breaker for me, very good review thanks!
Wow!! I almost brought the XF400. But this little guy does the trick just fine
Very impressive and clear information, best reporting I have seen,,,
Thanks for the good solid information. Great video.
can you attach external mic for road side interviews and does it support the external mic itself or does it have to be a powered mic ?
Good job on your video Steve I have the same camera I love it thank you
Thanks for sharing this.
Well done sir, very well explained. Keep it up. I have a question, can i go live with this cam??? Using UltraStudio Mini Recorder???
What equipment did you use with it? Lapel mic etc.
Nice review Steve! Thanks for showing the video and pictures from the Canon. I'm looking at this camera to step up from my phone for my channel. I read some reviews that made me question if this was the right move for me. I want to stay on the more affordable side but really want a mic port. Your review showed me that this camera will be just fine for me. Thanks again!!! ~Pat
Thanks for watching
Thanks for a great video.
Great video and was very detailed! As im no pro and you know alot more than me about tech, i can advise to add music and montages top make your video smoother. You earned a new subscribe.
I want to broadcast wirelessly to my computer from this camera (I have the camera now). How and what do I need to add to the camera/computer to do this? BTW - couldn't get to your website.
Thanks bro. We’ll go with this one for our RUclips channel. We’ll give you a shout out for this review
Cool review. I'll probably get this. Greetings from a fellow San Diegan!
i subscribed to u , thank u this is awesome 😍
They also eliminated the avchd video file format and are now using only mp4, which creates multiple small files. If you plan of filming more than thirty minute videos you will want to stick with the HF 700 model which still has a avchd file mode.
I really do like how the camera performs I might consider buying one
with which cam you shot the video? love the quality
+JohnRaqe this shot with a Sony ax33 but now I use a sony fdr-ax100 and the 33 for the overhead shots.
I'll just use this indoors for my upcoming RUclips cooking channel, so the wind and sunlight will not effect me whatsoever. It has great close ups and good vibrant color capture. Thanks for the demo....
I wish you success on your channel 🎬
@@TechSteve thank you very much, and Happy New Year.
Love this review! Just got mine in the mail today and cant wait to start filming with it. I decided to get a cheaper camera until my subscribers/views increase instead of spending $700 for a camera and later discovering YT might not be for me. Again great video.
You should send your setup to Tech Source for his Setup wars series, you could link your channel as well to get some exposure :)
Hey Steve! I just had a couple of questions and was wondering if you could help out.
1. What's the average battery life if the battery is fully charged?
2. How big of an SD card should I buy (GB storage wise) If my videos are between 30-35 minutes long?
3. Is there a specific microphone you would recommend to pair along with the camera?
Thanks for your help!
I haven’t had that camera for a long time. Here’s canons website to find your answers www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/camcorders/consumer/vixia/vixia-hf-r800
If I were to put a 950 nm ir filter on this camcorder do you think I could do decent Sky watching?
Thanks for the review up in the Market for a new camera,if you have any suggestions I'm all ear
Awesome review!
can i record long videos, more than 4 hours? do u recommend it for recording lectures?
Thumbs up, very informative....
Great video i am considering buying this camera with a external microphone to do some RUclips Vlogs.. I will subscribe and like your video brother.. Thanks for posting it.
You are doing a fine job sted
Can I take all the footage that I make on this camera and put it on a DVD through windows DVD maker if not how do I get it on a DVD
Thank u Sir
Is this micro SD only? Can I use the standard size SD card? Sever sources have been telling me different things from the products page on Canon's website to bestbuy to amazon
Hi! Is that possible with this set to plug the charger to use on the camera? If i do not have other batery and I need to use more then 4 hours. Is that possible to use the camera while is charging on the camera? Is there a way to plug the camera on the elecricity? thanks
Tks from Brazil!
Is it worth the upgrade if you already own a Canon R52?
I know you used a Sony to Start Recording you with the R800. What was the name of the Sony Camera/Camcorder & Mic that you used to record yourself with the R800? When I clicked the link it shows me more than one. And what Mic did you use with the Sony?
Is this the camera that you used for the entire footage, that is did you use this camera while you were seated in front of your pc's at the end? If not, which camera was that? Thanks.
A sony 4k handycam fdr-ax100
does this camera has hdr mode...and whT are the recording size option
Hi Steve, just got a canon vixia r800, a tripod and a takstar. I need a shoe mount that can work seamless without need for adjustment. You know a kind of plug and play shoe mount. Can you send me a link of where I can get it?
I think it's amazing just no remote but everything else is incredibly ThanX for this so much. I love it. Ik it muted the sound but I just won't use it in the wind lol.😭😍💜
Hopefully it works well for filming a podcast. Planning to buy two of them.
Make sure you get some video lights, it makes a world of differents
Your image is so clear. What camera are you using to film this Tech review video?
Sony ax100 4k
@@TechSteve - Thanks for your fast reply. Im sure the files are huge. What pc specs are using to edit?
Thanks so much. Can one attach and use an external mic to this camera?
Yes you can
hello. good video and good information. i am considering buying one. just might be a camera with budget friendly options. also, i am curious did i see an external webcam on your big monitor on the desk? curiosity killed the cat as they say, please tell about it, if so. andwhat features it has. also does it have good video quality as in HD? if not .... what brand and model webcam would you recommend that the best video for viewers. thanks. have a great day.
great review
Thanks
Steve, is that a mini microphone input. Great feature. I think you sold me on this. I haven't gone wrong with Canon yet. Thanks.
Yes, 3.5mm
@@TechSteve Thanks for the prompt reply, Steve. That's what I was hoping. Sure looked like it. Perfect for my new lav. Continued success with the channel!
Were these the default settings you used on your walkabout, or did you make changes? Thanks in advance
Default settings
If you're going to do any outdoor shooting you should definitely look into a windscreen for your mics.
Which mic did u use to record the video?!
Ok u convinced me I’m buying it
what are they like for machine shop videos , filming distance average 200mm away up to 2 meters away from camera .
I would get a DSLR because you can buy lenses for it. Plus the have much better details
@@TechSteve thanks , i will check them out .
I won't be using it to record. How does it do for live streaming?
I had previously owned a Sony CX405 and I did not like how the audio performed because you could easily hear the autofocus on the camera. Is this camera autofocus noisy because I would like to know and is this also good for taking videos of train watching (Railfanning)
Sorry it’s a old video and I had it for a day. I have no idea
@@TechSteve ok that’s absolutely fine just asking for ideas
Thanks
Steve, can you use a MoVo wireless mic system with this video camera ?
If it has a 3.5mm out
I am buying a camera for our trip. We will be biking as well as hiking mountains. Would you suggest this or the GoPro Hero 5 Black? Thanks for your help.
+su park GoPro, I own the hero 4
Good video what type of external mic are you using
Audio Technica ATR3350
Is the "Canon Vixia HF R800" the EXACT same as the "Canon Legria HF R806"?
And same with the 700 vs. 706?
Legria don't have microphone input and has 25 and 50 frame rate. Vixia 30 and 60.
When I click "Show More" under your video, I can't find your website. Could you add it in there and let me know. I know you said it in the video but it may make it easier for people to find. Thank you. Great Video!
Wow did you use the Rode Shockmount Microphone to get the Audio? It's great! Later you went outside. You Recorded with the R800 and used it's audio..It seemed like when the Wind hit it it kind of nullified all the audio. But when you used your External Mic and the train came by I heard both you and the train clearly. That was Great! Did you use the Rode Microphone at that point? I clicked your link on "My Great I used to create this video" Just need a little clarification. They said that Amazon is out of stock but has a newer one I could purchase.
Surprised you did not mention there is no hot - or cold shoe on this camcorder. So how do you attach an external mike without having to go find a bracket? The bigger thing though is that the charging port ranges from terribly bad to unacceptable - wire comes loose frequently.
I had it for one day, the video results still surprises me. I didn’t ever use it
Who is best camera canon r800 Vs Sony hf405 Vs Panasonic 180 tell me and show me all video review
I understand that you don't have this camera anymore but i want to ask a question and I hope that you might be able to answer it. So when you were using the camera was the microphone quality good or did you have to buy an external microphone in other to be able to have a great audio sound?
My advice is that any internal mic will be ok, my experience is that most of them sounds ok but not much range. If you want good audio us an external recorder like a xoom and lapel or rode mic. The down sides is that you have to make a rig and sync your audio with your editing program but it much richer sound. Setups can get expensive but it depends on what productions value you’re after. Currently I’ll using a Panasonic gh5 with the mic adapter and a $400 rode mic. Ouch$$$
Thanks I appreciate that
Who is best camera canon r800 Vs Sony hf405 Vs Panasonic 180 tell me and show me all
What about battery life?
Canon HR R800 on Amazon amzn.to/2xtyl2W
Thanks. great demo
Hi! I have a microphone Rode VideoMicro, and it need to use the plugin power supplied via camera's microphone input. Do you thing it will work with this camera? Or I need to use a microphone with own power batery?
I’m sure it will need it’s own battery.
Tech Steve thanks, man!
I'm looking for a camera that a retiree can afford that can do the usual family video shots, but beyond that, I really love watching and recording RC model airplanes and you have to zoom constantly, but when they come in for a fly-by, you have to back off - sometimes fast, sometimes slow depending on how fast they fly by. And you can't be putzin' around waiting for focus when they get farther away either. Anyway, you mentioned that in the sunlight, you couldn't really see the touch screen. That's totally unacceptable for what I just mentioned. So, what's the cheapest an ole retiree can get by with to do what I have explained? What are the lower priced HD cameras with eye pieces? What do you recommend or will this Canon R800 or the Sony CX405 do what I want? (I'm turned off by the 405 because of the 30 fps instead of 60). Thanks Oh, oh, one other thing, just a heads up for you if you ever do other camera reviews. I am looking for a certain thing that I didn't see in this video. I need a shot with the camera on a tripod and a scene like at 4:59 mins (and a 1/2 second). I need video of that tree and what I'm checking for is the focus of the objects in the periphery. The camera is going to auto focus on that tree, but I want to see how it does on everything else. I have seen video where the periphery is blurred and that's just not acceptable. I'll even give you an example. Go here at 6:03 mins and see how the red vise, the palm tree bark and the fence to the left are all blurred, but the engine in the center is perfect. ruclips.net/video/6DWoQF4Y0yo/видео.html&ab_channel=DavidMcIntire Now, this is a super guy and I'm not trying to bash his video. I'm just trying to make a point. EDIT Now-a-days, in industry speak they call that 'bokeh'. I call it poorer optics when you lose depth of field (focus). I'm not trying to shot video of Whistler's Mother here :)
What video camera did you shoot this review in? Nice quality video recording itself.
I recorded with sony handycam fdr-ax100
@@TechSteve Thanks, nice review. subscribed.
Hey Steve, you commented that you could hardly see the screen in bright sunlight. Is that a bad enough problem for you to suggest finding another brand of camera that incorporates a conventional viewfinder?
I try to keep bias and only had this camera for a day. But if that’s an important feature for you I would definitely get one with the view finder.
Thanks Steve.
Nice presentation! You sold me on this one! Would you mind showing the easiest way to transfer videos from this camera to you tube, please.Thank you, Steve
+Following My Bliss you need a computer and a video editor software. I use a mac and Final Cut Pro.
Did I here you say it has a pause button, is that for using when recording ???
Sorry just started and stop
Pls tell me , can I make indoor you tube video about drawing through this camcorder. Is this camcorder good for making 480p quality on you tube uploading
Yes with good lighting, but why only 480p that’s poor quality. The camera can do at least 1080p HD
Just discoverer your channel and I have a question. In the market for a new, cheaper, camcorder and torn between the Canon R800, Sony cx405 and the Panasonic hc v180. Would love your opinion, thank you.
Personally I would go for a Panasonic GX7 because it’s 4k, you can change the lenses and it’s something that you can grow with. The camcorder are ok but very limited. I only did this review so I’m not sure about the other models but I would do 4k for sure, more detailed pictures and videos.
Here a link. www.google.com/search?q=panasonic+gx7&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS709US709&oq=panasonic+gx7&aqs=chrome..69i57.7888j0j4&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8
@@TechSteve Thank you for your quick response, appreciate it.
can we take photos or images using this camcorder??
In EU can only get the legria version, with no mic input, really disappointed, cos it is a great budget camera.
Hey man I just got this camera and I'm confused. I have filmed in well.lit areas and it looks grainy and out of focus. Yours looks great any ideas?
One subscriber said that he moved the resolution to 60 FPS and it looked much clearer. I only had the camera for a few days so I cannot Test.
Tech Steve I have mine at that and it looks grainy. Yours looks really crisp
Can i snap photos from canon hf806???
My Vixia records files with video about 2 or 3 frames behind the audio. I've tried everything. different SD cards, different camera settings, with mic, without mic, no change. Anyone have a clue??
