- In this video I talk about how to select a camera for live streaming. If you stream to Facebook Live, RUclips Live or your Website, you're going to need to select a camera to use. What are the requirements you should be looking for when you purchase cameras for your live stream setup? I hope to answer those questions in this video.

I am setting up a camera (Panasonic vx870) to record our sermons for our website. I am not having luck getting OBS or any Mac software to recognize my camera as anything other than an sd card. Can you assist me with this issue?
@@Lukkydog68 It doesn't sound like you're doing much more than plugging your camera's USB port into your computer, and if that's the case, you'll need some means of capturing the video output of your camera instead of connecting via USB. If I'm way off, sorry, more details on your setup are required.

Wow. Thank you really. You’ve made it so simple to understand. I have little experience with video cameras (I do photography); but I’ve been trying to figure out something for live-streaming for my church. As of now they’ve only managed below-SD-quality with mono audio and it’s 2020!

I use a Cannon HF R800 and even now it is a great camera for easy to plug a microphone into and easy to set up for making tutorials. I would like a more expensive one some day but it is a great bang for your buck camera. And I like it better than any Cell Phone camera and use it for my home video's as well!

Thanks. I am a total newbie setting up a Broadcast studio (only 4 months building, then 3 weeks setting up the 2 x G21 and SMB7s!!).I had my Canon Vixia G21 HDMI going into the PC's SS slot fine. The Sure SMB7 mic went into the Mixer and a small 3.5mm jack and lead out going to the PC. No sound! Watched your clip and realised the 3.5mm should have been going from the Camera Audio Out to the Mixer - via a 3.5mm to 6.9mm converter. This let me turn off the Internal Mic on the G21 (without anything int eh Audio Out the Mic Internal Off function is greyed over) and bingo it picked up the SMB7! Even Canon helpline couldn't help...
Another great video, again, wish I'd found it before I trialled my first stream! haha

I got my VIXIA. I used a wireless mic device, plugged the mic side into the headphone jack on the sound board, the receiving end into the mic-in of the camera. Sweet! Works great! Direct sound without stringing a long cable all the way to the camera!

In that price range there are a few similar models with slightly different features, but I don't think they've come out with a new generation yet, so in that price range that would still be the camera to get.

AMEN, I am planning to start a live Hindi TV channel. but I don't have the budget for cameras I am praying for Blackmagic 4k. can you tell me if I go with this cheap camera will it work for me in Croma or several episode recording like 4 to 8 hours a day.

I've had some of the same thoughts so I feel I can really trust the additional info I've gleaned from this video.
Most of the other videos I've seen are really pushing the DSLR/Mirrorless camera lineups but that falls into the "Spending a whole lot more" for little benefit category.
~ We've been using an XA10 that outputs 1080. It has been serving us well but we've apparently broken the HDMI port from years of pans/tilts etc.
~ We Live Stream FB then upload a lightly edited version to RUclips.
~ What Recommendations Do you experienced Cameramen think for a replacement?
?? - How hard would a switch from HDMI to SDI inputs on our PC be?
we have an canon xc10 and a sony cam corder (getting rid of the sony and getting more canon) its been 2 years since you made this vid and I greatly appreciate all your vids - do you still stand by these models or is there something newer and better - thanks again
FYI, the Vixia HF G50 (which came out after this video was produced) does include a LANC connection for around $1,000
Great videos! Totally agree on ptz cams. Have you come across a "pan tilt" mount for a cam that can be controlled over ip?
I don't work with ptz enough to really have a good recommendation, sorry.

Great vid ! id like your advice .. Im looking for a camera to record my self Boxing (mainly just hitting the heavybag) i currently use the camera on my MacBook pro which is very poor quality and the vids take up a lot of storage..I record my self in my garage and the lighting is not great at all .. i don't need anything fancy.. only special feature id like is if it can record 4K maybe.. Can you suggest any 200$ or less ..

What are your thoughts on the 800 entry level camera vs an older gopro? Aside from the mic input, is there another reason to steer away? And if i'm streaming 4 cams through a switch, wouldn't the audio be handled through something else than one of the cams? Is there another advantage of the canon that i'm overlooking vs the gopro?
Great information and video I just sub.... Can you do a review on the Sling Studio for church? Would it be possible to get a full scale church service production? One of my concern is the video out can I send a secondary feed to maybe a recorder or a screen?

Your videos are great and very timely. We are looking to go from iPad live stream to a true camera setup for our church services. I have a question about audio input from the mixer to the Canon R800. What type of audio in does it have? 1/4" microphone? Thanks so much for the great help!
Glad you've found the videos helpful! The R800 has an 1/8" input connector. So, depending on what output your mixer has (XLR or 1/4") you will need a cable like this: amzn.to/2rrRvl1 or like this: amzn.to/2rlaHkq

Thank you for this great video I was wondering what your thoughts were about using a Canon 80D for live streaming Facebook or RUclips. We will only be using one camera (desk interview) and a new MacBook Pro was wondering if you recommend the AJI hdmi or sdi . Also what do you think about camlink stick vs. AJI
Using a DSLR or mirrorless camera is fine, but the problem you will have with the 80D is that it doesn't give a clean HDMI output. Meaning there will always be text from the camera on your video feed from the HDMI output. If you are using a DSLR camera, then use the HDMI version of the u-tap. I'd recommend the Sony line of mirrorless cameras for this, they give a clean HDMI output.
Do you have a video on the Canon XA 40 4K UHD Camcorder? I am starting out. What shotgun mic would you recommend? I am a beginner and want to start a YT channel and then, go onto more documentary type of filming.

I have a Cannon Vixia HG20, yes I spent 900 plus as I liked the low light as I do music concerts that I do light but it has worked well enough. I would like to use it for live streaming as I have been asked to do a 1.5 hour music concert on the internet. Do you have any advice. I do light by the way so no problem there. What equipment do I need, what is that best and slightly cheaper with the best sound quality platform for streaming. Need to charge tickets. Also do you have a hook up diagram and flowchart. Which videos would you suggest I watch? Ca possibly use my roomates I phone instead but was hoping to use my camera. Thanks for this video as I got to see how to turn off the icons on the screen. I also want to hook it into my mixing board, and I did see your video to place two room mics which I need as a lot of my instruments are without mics. I currently have a focus rite converter, 8 in, microphones, logic, can use OBS if it works on a Mac as my roommates Mac is in the room. How do you plug the sound back into the camera and get a descent sound. Is that possible? How do you stream it. Thanks for the input. Mari

With the Canon XA15, what would be the ideal setup if it is in a Crane Jib?
Do you know if we can use both the SDI and HDMI output at the same time?
I'm thinking of:
- Crane Jib with a motor Pan & Tilt Head
- Canon XA15
- Operator Monitor (connected to HDMI output)
- Operator Remote LANC control
- SDI output to send the video to the PC with the capture card. (I don't know if this is possible if the HDMI is also being used)
Or do you recommend I go with the Canon XF400/XF405?
For the other cameras, I plan to set the PTZ cameras you shared.

We were streaming using a Moto Z Force Droid smartphone and using a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter and then a 3.5 mm to mic and headphone Y and were getting excellent quality video and audio. But those adapters were very touchy with the audio, so I decided to follow your suggestions and bought the R800 camera and the U-Tap HDMI box. The first thing I noticed was the video quality was much lower quality on my Facebook livestream on the R800 than on the Moto Z Force phone. Next, the audio coming from my Facebook livestream sounds like it is in a fish bowl...horrible. Maybe I just got a bad R800, but it was a real step down in both audio and video quality, over what we were doing. About to return the R800 and search for another camcorder. Thanks for the video, it really helped in getting things setup.
Are you using the 'Camera' tab or the 'Connect' tab on Facebook to start your stream? How are you connecting audio to the camera?

Apologies for the following long post/question.
I have a question about the setup in this video to make sure I understand.
I am upgrading from a simple Logitech webcam cabled directly to a Win 10 laptop along with sound mic'ed into a mixer and then into the laptop using OBS software.
I plan on using a single camera setup with the entry level camera (Canon VIXIA R800), the AJA U-TAP HDMI capture device and a Win 10 laptop (USB3 capable) with OBS Studio software.
My sound will be captured by a wireless mic - Audiotecnica - and the receiver outputs to an entry level Behringer Xenyx mixer.
My question is regarding the audio. Do I mic the sound and then output it from the audio mixer to the camera audio input? I am asking because my camera will be set up about fifteen feet from the laptop and mixer, which means I will need at least a 15ft audio cable running from the mixer to the camera audio input. Is that correct?
btw, currently, I run the audio from the mixer to the laptop, and the video directly into the laptop and have not encountered a problem with synchronization. However, that must be a function of the level of equipment I am using.

Just keep running it direct to the laptop. No reason to change, and in all honesty the R800 doesn't have good preamps so just about anything will sound better. If you do have a sync issue, just sync it up in OBS.

The Legria line is the same as Vixia, but Legria is PAL version.

ROGERPRO PRODUCTION Can you get a clean HDMI signal out of them? DSLRs can work and give you a great image. I would use a different interface for audio though. You might have to work a little harder but they can work.
What would you think of a Canon XC10? I wonder what comes out the mini hdmi for Live stream
Does the Canon XA15/LANC allow for communication between the camera operator and the ATEM "operator" over the SDI cable? Second, remote PTZOptics SDI camera operation using a Stream Deck - can I assume that my PTZOptics camera needs an SDI connection to my ATEM and an RJ45 connection to an internet accessible switch? Finally - Do you still feel these are the two best cameras (PTX and tripod mounted) in this price range?
Do you have a recommendation for sports streaming, looking for affordable 1080p cameras with LANC/Remote support so unexperienced user can easily pan, tilt and zoom from the the same handle. The R800 seems to be missing that, any other option?

Yes, an internal card can work fine - although some AJA cards don't work with OBS. (Do some googles on the card and OBS before you purchase) Also, the Blackmagic Decklink Mini Recorder card has lots of reliability issues, I've seen SO MANY of those fail.

of those cameras I'd probably go with the hr80. Not sure what the m12 is?
