  • As a plein air painter I know that one of the most valuable skills I can build is a good drawing skill. So to that end I'm going out in the field to draw a tree from life using pencils and charcoal in my sketchbook. Follow along with this real time demo as we talk about massing in values and shapes and the benefits of drawing from life. If you're new here my name is Danny Sabra. I am a self taught artist. I do a lot of #oilpainting, #pleinairpainting, #gouache and #watercolor painting, urban sketching, #penandink drawing and many other things! I upload tips on #paintingforbeginners and other subjects related to art and creativity. I like to do #landscapepainting, plein air, alla prima, as well as portraits of people and animal portraits. I believe every person has a creative voice that matters. and my goal is to empower everyone to share their creativity with the world! My daughter and I watched this together. We both loved it. I've never used a pencil like that before. She especially liked seeing the end where you put the trees in the background.

      Thats so cool! Never used a pencil like how? It was really fun to do.. i'm trying to make drawing a more consistent part of my practice... I feel like i need to do everything more, drawing, painting from life, tonal value work in black and white, limited palettes, studio work... not enough time in the day!

      @@DannySabraArt Hah. Tell me bout it. Just your pencil. I've never used that one. It's really cool and looks super sturdy.

      @@BestowingTheBrush oh i love it! you can get it at blick but it's under the counter. Originally intended for drafting I like the knurling.. feels amazing and the extra weight near the end of the pencil helps with control I feel...
      It was probably $12 when i bought it. Expensive for a pencil but if you don't drop it and break it or lose it, it'll last forever.

      @@DannySabraArt I have one heavy metal paintbrush and I also think it helps with control. Really cool! Somehow $12 doesn't seem that expensive anymore... 🤔🧐

😍 Bel disegno davvero! Complimenti! 🤗👍🏻🌼🌼🌼🌼

      Ciao Pamela! Mille grazie! È davvero bello quando il bianco va sulla carta! Non ho mai provato quelle matite ma so di cosa stai parlando. Potrei doverne prendere alcuni e provarli qualche volta. Dipingi? Anche dipingere su una superficie tonica è molto divertente. Ti consente di lavorare dal centro verso l'alto e verso il basso fino all'evidenziazione più luminosa e al buio più scuro. Mi piace veramente. Grazie ancora!

      @@DannySabraArt Si!!! Mi piace molto dipingere sulla tela tonalizzata! 😍 Mi piace moltissimo anche usare l'imprimitura colorata! È una cosa che adoro! 😍 Sia il disegno tonale che la pittura tonale, mi piacciono tantissimo! 😍 Ps si, le grafite laccate, sono molto comode! È come disegnare col carboncino, senza sporcarsi le dita🙃 Inoltre si temperano con un comunissimo tempera matite e la tempera la conservo, perché è tutta polvere di grafite. La polvere la uso col pennello per fare le sfumature, che vengono benissimo! Inoltre la polvere la uso anche col pennello umido e si acquerella bene! Insomma, mi piacciono tantissimo queste matite! Grazie per essere sempre così gentile con me🤗🌼🌼🌼

    nice study Danny- plein air drawing...haven't done that for years.I need to sort out a sketch book! I too have those white pencils - really effective contrast aren't they - I tend to use them with black conte pencil or charcoal.

    • @DannySabraArt
      @DannySabraArt  2 года назад +1

      Yeah it's a nice effect when the white finally comes in and you get the full effect of contrast. I want to do more drawing just to bone up on those skills plus its' fun and easy to set up for and the lessons it teaches are invaluable.

    Oh, nice to see you draw. I love graphite :) Never combined it with white on toned paper. Looks like fun :)

    I really enjoyed the real time pace of this. Thank you fir sharing. I do have a question about the pastel pencil- does it smudge to the other page?

    • @DannySabraArt
      @DannySabraArt  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Keke! Both the pencil and the pastel can smudge a little bit so if I think of it I either leave the opposing page blank, or I spray it with a fixative when I'm done. Takes 30 seconds and then I don't have to worry about it. The one i use. is by grumbacher.

      I've been using a white pen for my highlights on Toned paper but I really like coverage of this pastel pencil! Thank you!

      @@SereneStudio They come in different hardnesses as well. I believe this is either a hard or medium, so that it isn't as dusty when i close the book. Hope that helps!
