If you're new here my name is Danny Sabra. I am a self taught artist. I do a lot of #oilpainting, #pleinairpainting, #gouache and #watercolor painting, urban sketching, #penandink drawing and many other things! I upload tips on #paintingforbeginners and other subjects related to art and creativity. I like to do #landscapepainting, plein air, alla prima, as well as portraits of people and animal portraits. I am keen to try acrylics en plein air, and found this so helpful, especially about using illustration board, which I hadn't heard of. A beautiful study!
You should try it! I really like it because you have a smooth surface and you can cut it to whatever size you want, just with a utility knife!

It’s crazy you were able to get that much done in less than an hour. Do you think speed is just a natural skill, or have you been consciously working in it?
I actually feel like I’m fairly slow. When I started out I was really slow and this would’ve taken like three hours plus. I think it helped that it was really cold so I was suffering and it also helped that it was acrylic and the scene didn’t have a lot of color. But speed is something I want to improve upon. It has helped me to do lots of smaller works and to do things by time alone. I bet if you set a challenge to periodically do a complete sketch in 20 min or 30 or whatever is faster than what you normally do you’d see yourself getting a bit quicker.
But I agree this was abnormally fast for me. For sure just being really cold haha
