Hi there, Ray of Secret Base here. Thanks for the incredible coverage. I'm glad you enjoy the game and it was a blast to see you identifying all the cool stuff we try to do. One small note about the team though - While the core of Double Dragon Gaiden is just Sian Yue and myself, we had tons of help from freelancers all over the world to bring everything together :)
It's an incredible feat for a small indie team to create a beat em up that rivals the giants of the industry. Hell, I'm pretty sure it makes everyone's top 5 beat em ups of all time
One of the best things in any game is the ability to play as a boss without nerfs, Playing as Sturm in advance wars is a power trip everyone should experience.
Red Mist from Library of Ruina. You don't get the massive whopping 700 HP she gets in boss form but everything else from her boss fight is left untampered
Double dragon is certainly an incredibly influential game, you can see how basically every other beat ‘‘em up game after it took inspiration from or just paid tribute to it
Well, this is the first time you genuinely, actually sold me to go buy a game ASAP. The colors, the combos, the variety -- it's all so enticing in a way your word firmly cemented!
Me too. Double Dragon Trilogy (the Arcade compilation) is all right with getting the arcade experience but it is hard and the controls and options are limited.
They way this game does rougelite mechanics is super interesting, and i'm geuinely suprised there aren't more rougelike beat em ups. Not to mention the custom difficulty options, you love to see it!
I'm so glad I discovered this game. I've never played any Double Dragon games and I heard about it accidentally (in a video covering upcoming beat em up games) and decided to buy it day one, totally blind, which I never *ever* do - no idea why. And oh boy, was I positively surprised. It's easily my favorite beat em up, rivaled only by Streets of Rage 4 (not because it's better, but because it's amazing at different things). In fact, I liked i so much that I decided to buy it for another platform as well and I don't regret it. The dev team released a free DLC had as much content as paid DLC from competitors. Oh and i forgot about all the amazing characters - they all play differently and combat is just so fucking satisfying. Seriously - how many beat em ups let you play as bosses that don't feel like a watered down versions of themselves? Or the final boss that totally feels like a cheat code? Lol
I know videos like this aren't exactly the viewed on the channel, people tend to flock to what's super popular or super bad, but I'm glad you do videos like this. The videos on games you just really like and want people to see are some of my favorites, right there with the ones on obscure titles you want to tell people about. I put them on repeat for background when I'm out of videos. ...and most of the others, your videos are all different flavors of good it's hard to choose. Except the tester videos, but there's only so much you can do to improve something like THAT. But the rest I know like the back of my leg- Well enough to know it when I see it and could tell if something was different, but not so much that it's memorized.
Ah heck yeah, should have expected some Double Dragon goodness considering how much you seem to love the game. Always great to see some new Bumbles in my feed!
I just realized why this game seems so familiar to me! The pixel chibi graphics, the style of combat, the fact that you can tackle the levels in any order and that determines the length of them…It’s streets of Red Devils Dare Deluxe! A while back a beat em up released featuring all that plus a black and white color scheme with lots of red and a mishmash of various pieces of pop culture including bosses based on famous movie monsters. The fighters used various skills and equipment based on retro gaming. One boss was the Ring girl named Sakura, another was based on Jason Voorhees called Momma’s Boy, and the true final boss is a fusion of Jigsaw from Saw, a vampire, and a Teletubbie. Only you didn’t have the difficulty settings and there were only two characters to unlock.
This video convinced me to get the game, and I can confidently say that playing it has been a blast, and absolutely worth the money. Thanks so much for the video
The final boss being an unlockable character with no nerfs attached is the kind of thing that sounds too good to be true. Not enough games just let you completely cut loose like that.
I still need to play this game. It just looks amazing and fun to play this classic. Definitely and absolutely gonna play this brand new beat em up game.
5:33 GungHo Online Entertainment?! The maker of the Puzzle & Dragons series including Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition on the Nintendo 3DS, _that_ GungHo Online Entertainment?!
Marian is a monster with that rocket launcher. (fire, fire fire, Special + Toward) racks up Turkeys like crazy. The norma attack holds the enemies in place then wait til the others pass by the one and FIRE!
I really need to get this game, it looks so good! I’d still love to see another crack at a Double Dragon game by Wayforward in the style of the RCG games, I think it’d be a great time if it happened
Bruh. I actually LOVE the junk pyramid; there's an art to navigating the spikes w/ your moveset while keeping the combo counter up & not getting hurt. You just hafta know what each move does to the enemy & your positioning.....it's lowkey a bit of genius game design; I actually save vids of some of my nastier runs in there
For the love of god, WHERE IS THAT TRIGGER HAPPY HAVOC VIDEO THAT WAS TEASED OVER A YEAR AGO?! A year is a bit much for distance between a teaser and the actual video. Also great video Bumbles, keep it up!
Great vid. Just curious since we're on a beat em' up streak if we could get a vid on Streets of Fury EX, it's made by some of the people who went on to make SoR4 and its fantastic.
Yeah no i never heard of this game till today And not even after clicking on this video I thought this was a Double Deagon Neon video early on But nah this rocks and i will be playing this IMMEDIATLY
I think I would've liked this game way more if I didn't start with Marian as one of my mains. Her gun was shockingly bad at crowd control, which is kind of important when the "boss rush" refers to the bosses bum rushing you.
This honestly is very, VERY similar to Streets of Red: Devil's Dare Deluxe. The map ideas (four maps, they get stronger each time you finish one), the money system along with upgrades, being 2D classic beat'em up, getting health pickups when combo is big, its all there. Theres just no tag system in Streets of red. I'm suprised to see something very similar again, but then again the only better thing than a cool game is TWO cool games! Plus they have wildly different artstyles so thats that. I also wonder how this game controls and if its as good (or maybe better) than Streets of Red. Controls can make or break the fighting game, but Bumbles seem to love how double Dragon controls so ill trust him on this one.
Wait, this game was made by two people!? How the hell did this franchise bounce around for 20+ years with no good games (Not you, Neon) and then two dudes come in and surpass ALL OF THEM.
Chance of going over Contra when the new game releases? They also got WayForward and after playing Contra 4, I've got faith we're going to have a good game after so long.
Glad to see this game take the Devil May Cry approach and have the playable boss character be just as fucked up as they are to fight. also Abobo's Big Adventure video when?
Yo bumbles, did you see the free dlc update to this game? They added sonny lee as a character, which i only now realize is who you were referring to with that 'forgotten player 3 characters' line. if you got to try it out what did you think?
hi father. after this video released, a day later they have added the game to a game bundle on fanatical. i will get this game from the bundle for 15 dollars, praise jesus.
I vaguely remember the cartoon. Wasn't the first episode completely disconnected from the rest of the show, with a different identity for the Shadow Master? Or did I dream that?
Nice game just wish there was more challenge and more unlocks. Should have a straight Arcade Mode where you use your extra tokens to buy in. No power ups and no tag should be an option , play all the possible stages and bosses, with some nice unlocks for winning this 👍
@@ghostdog3566 Oh, yeah? So it wasn't just me, then. That's a relief. I played DD3 Arcade once (and only once) when it came out, and I don't think I lasted 1 minute before I got game over. All these years I thought I was just bad at the game. Lol. I moved one game over and played Cadillacs and Dinosaurs instead.
The funny thing is that even without comparing it to its arcade counterpart, the NES DD3 is actually kinda decent, but it's very hard to approach because of the "one life per character" mechanic.
@@dariogonzalez8989 I found it difficult to pull off moves, and extremely difficult to avoid bouncing off the edge after getting knocked down in the first level and dying instantly by falling. Even with Game Genie to use cheats, I found it basically unplayable. I mean, I got a lot of enjoyment out of The Adventures of Bayou Billy, with or without cheats, and yet I just couldn't get any enjoyment out of Double Dragon 3. I mean, how do you ship with it misspelling a lead character? Bimmy and Jimmy? I got more fun out of Deadly Towers. Still, with all 3 games, if they could've updated them with a few fixes, they would have been good games. You just fix the controls so you can get all the moves to work reliably and turn off the bouncing upon getting knocked down and DD3 would be fine.
Hi there, Ray of Secret Base here. Thanks for the incredible coverage. I'm glad you enjoy the game and it was a blast to see you identifying all the cool stuff we try to do. Red Mist from Library of Ruina.

And now we have demi fiend in smt 5 vengeance, where he's actually STRONGER as a playable character than as a boss.
*"HOLY SH*T TWO CAKES!"* Perfectly summarizes the Mariam situation.
Double dragon is certainly an incredibly influential game, you can see how basically every other beat ‘‘em up game after it took inspiration from or just paid tribute to it
even Yakuza was just a 3D Double Dragon before 7
@@lavenzavantas i'd say Yakuza was more 3D River City Ransom tbh
Dude 1/3 into the video and I get reminded how good bumbles is at summaries of games
I know, right? You just click on his video about any game and suddenly get a full series retrospective. I love it.
Well, this is the first time you genuinely, actually sold me to go buy a game ASAP. The colors, the combos, the variety -- it's all so enticing in a way your word firmly cemented!
What about the ultra kill vid?
@@mariokolo3911 already owned it after watching Rata's video
and I had been playing the demos of Pizza Tower long before Jack made his video
I'm here to watch this video for the 6th time because Jack said nobody watched this epic video he worked hard on.
I have also come from the Charity Drive status update.
8:44 just so you know, post nuclear apocalypse was always the setting of the games, at least the classic trilogy.
Here after the charity video boss, watched it when it came out now we’re watching it again
“A Wisconsin amount of cheese.”
As a Wisconsinite, I love this statement.
Glad to see double dragon getting a proper revival in this day and age.
Me too. Double Dragon Trilogy (the Arcade compilation) is all right with getting the arcade experience but it is hard and the controls and options are limited.
bought the game based on this review. no regrets, its a blast
Anubis and the junk pyramid were pretty cool, but a silly neon-obsessed gang controlled by Skullmageddon would have been perfect XD
different continuity
Dlc???
Thanks for selling me on yet another game! I've never been into Double Dragon, but this looks like it's EXACTLY my jam!
They way this game does rougelite mechanics is super interesting, and i'm geuinely suprised there aren't more rougelike beat em ups. Not to mention the custom difficulty options, you love to see it!
Most roguelite beat em' ups are more castle crashers-y, but i agree there aren't many
I like the new musical intro to the videos about good games, it sets good expectations for the video as a way to show the feeling of playing the game.
Just want to mention River City is a series from 1986, also originally from Technos. Most of them just didn’t come out in the West
And the ones that DID come out in the west were oddly rebranded
"Okada from double dragon four"
I may have miscounted but I heard three double dragon fours
That new end screen you use is seriously so sick
I love the running theme about them being a level clear screen but I think this one did it the best

Ah heck yeah, should have expected some Double Dragon goodness considering how much you seem to love the game. Always great to see some new Bumbles in my feed!
I’m here from a now-deleted video saying to go watch this video again.
…okay.
finally a game that proves the "the boss when you fight him vs when you unlock him as a playable character" meme wrong
4:34 fun fact the developers of neon went to make a little game called shovel knight
02:36 and don’t forget the zeebo exclusive double dragon…I can’t hear double dragon without talking about this I’m sorry jack
