Illithid powers go crazy hard in BG3, adding unique and honestly busted abilities that you can use to devastate and annihilate enemies both in and out of battle.

Twinned chain lightning ftw.
Or storm of daggers is fire
Nice!! Now if I can just stop missing point blank attacks smh
Just like real D&D. Missing a hit on a dude tied up and weaponless is an actual thing. Always a chance to hit, always a chance to trip over a chair and accidentally stab your party members. 😅
Try not to think of misses as just whiffs. You are going against an enemy's armor class. So a "miss" could mean that they blocked your attack with their shield, or you hit a strong part of their armor and it is ineffective. Or maybe they are too dexterous to hit.
Armor class is a combination of all those factors.
@@michaelt.5882is there any way to see how many modifier to hit you have?
@@Andreus9733 in BG3? It is the + number underneath the weapon when you view your inventory. If you mouse over it, it will show you how it is calculated.
@@michaelt.5882 yeah, but I'd like to see total result of my roll against enemy's AC, like my buffs, my str/dex modifier and so on. Like in Pathfinder log
That black hole ability reminds me that Illithids canonically are from the inconceivably far future.
It's why they have spaceships. Illithid society developed into an empire, one that was then overthrown, near to the time of the death of all stars. They came back in time to escape said rebellion, and try again.
And this loop is *ongoing* . In the end, at least for a time, they always win.
thanks i needed some lore on why they are so advanced
Not really, the illithids don't have the knowledge to create spaceships. All the nautiloids they possess is due to trade with an alien race of merchants. They are not more technologically advanced than the other races, rather they are a hyper-specialized species in psionic powers, control and subjugation.
That's from third edition. These days they might be conquerors from the Far Realm or war mongering mutants hellbent on restoring their once thriving civilization. I like the uncertain origins, mistery suits the mind flayers.
@@nzoth66Yup, they pretty much created an unbreakable loop for themselves in time so that even if they're defeated a million times, they will always persist and return.
@@TheDonMarcio On the one hand; yes.
On the other, the mystery angle is why I really dislike the Far Realm connection for them. The Far Realm used to explicitly be NOT a place, even though it was: that was what made it so scary, and the creatures from it so horrifying. 4e wildly overused it as a quick excuse for all aberrations ever.
To the 'mutant' angle, though also 3.5, there was a spell in one of the very last books released for the edition that gave the caster face tentacles and an ability to eat brains. The spell did not, as I remember, mention illithids at all.
'Gone horribly wrong/right' , anyone?
In the end though I feel it going to change my character into one of those hentai guys
It's an option
You can opt for it and it's honestly so fun lol
Even if you take the astral tadpole, you don't have to fully transform
@@kenny3179oh can you still control your character when you become a mindflayer? Do you keep your class/racial benefits and feats/spells?
@@_n3kr055 you keep everything and gain a lot of amazing abilities like the ability to freely cast actions and bonus actions interchangeably, a more powerful mindblast and making your next spell cast not cost a spell slot, there is more though that's at the end of the game ofc.
Luck of the Far Realms is a MUST HAVE on any Paladin build. Just straight up guarantee a crit with divine smite one? Just save your highest level spell slot and BOOM. So damn GOOD.
The illithid power free cast literally gives you unlimited spell slots. It's probably bugged because I doubt it's supposed to be that OP.
Or it is but at what cost for using them at all?
@@JacobB-kr5emvery little cost tbh
Isn't it supposed to be only once a long rest? (literally haven't tried using it more) Though with that and the staff I got Gale, casting 3 lvl6 spells in a fight tends to be more than enough.

Luck of the far realms is good. The rest of them are not unless you accept the emperor tadpole.
If you attempt to remove the tadpole at the gith then empower it you are able to use them as bonus actions and then they're all useful.
@@michaelkelly4533damn thanks I was looking for it today how to get the passive.

Yeah the base illithid powers kinda suck except for Luck and ability drain. Basicly either you go all in late game, or just simply resist.
Yeah Luck is really nice for the guaranteed hit when you really can't afford to miss if nothing else.
Yeeting 2 minautors off the map when i was about to get nuked by them with a Luck boosted Eldritch Blast really made me appreciate it lol.
You're dreaming bro, most of them are good
Just having fly makes it insanely broken. A free movement ability that’s like x3 more effective than moving normally, that can go up or down any height. It also scales with your movement so things like haste make it twice as good. It completely trivialises the game when your team has that much mobility.
Like there’s a part at the very end of the game that’s like a gauntlet where you are racing to the top. I did it in 1 turn, and still had left over movement. It’s supposed to take multiple turns. All because of haste and fly
bet you save scum
Laezel screaming incoherently in the background lol
new build idea cause of this. Black hole + abusing bg3 mechanics for the fattest nuke. Sorcerer + Tempest Cleric + Haste for 3 Lightning bolts (4 if you're crazy enough to put 2 levels into fighter for action surge) + Create water. In bg3 wet targets take double dmg from lightning and cold dmg, meaning each lightning bolt will deal double dmg. This all together (without action surge) is able to deal a maximum of 288 dmg to every enemy pulled in by the black hole. With action surge that would be 384 per target. I call this build "Zeus' middle finger"
They certainly are and having a free fly is also incredible
I love how your first clip is you throwing a psychic blast which half of the enemies are immune to. 🤣

Bro is living his best Tadpole life
I literally went my entire first playthru without using the tadpole bc i thought there would be consequences
Same. Such a wasted potential.
There was supposed to be bad consequences but they cut all of that out of the game.
@@ThePunisher_88 bruh are you serious? The way act 1 and act 2 presented it seemed like the tadpole was gonna take over my body if I kept feeding it, so I played nearly the whole game without one power. What a disappointment, I guess I’ll go full ilithid next playthrough
@@Chadius_Thundercock Yeah. I refused the tad pole every step of the way. My friend meanwhile took the tadpole powers.
You end up with all kinds of stupid OP powers and no negatives while rejecting the tad pole doesn't give you jack shit.
I didn’t take it because I couldn’t take the story seriously anymore if my character looked all fucked up from the illithid parasite and I didn’t want to be a mind flayed
Some of those right hemisphere perks were insanely op. Luck of the Far Realms and Psionic dominance were my favorites
Woooooow!!! 😮 i never explored much about ilithid power! Goddamn! This is insane
Great montage but that first clip come on man 🤣 used that move against enemies immune to psionics lol
I recognize PROJECT when I hear it.
Bg3 makes you think of how to place the target area to include as many people as you can cause as long as they shine they still get hit with a crit even if you only touch their toes
"Lets show off the strength of illithid powers"
[IMMUNE TO PSYCHIC DAMAGE]
I hate that even if you resist the Illithids abilities there is no consequences or rewards (that I know of) other than just missing out on some funny squid powers
None. The only acknowlwdgement from what I heard is that when refusing the astral tadpole, if you ate and used tadpole abilities, you have to roll for a check.
The consequence is you have less power. Why would you get a reward?
@@calvintyler9281 thats how most games work, "You resist the evil spooky power now you have a new path or item to unlock."
@@UmjaeMJ yeah no most games tempt you with blatantly/obviously better evil powers because if there were better stuff for being good all the time then everyone would be good. You don't get rewarded for not being a piece of shit. The lesson applies to most stories and real life.
@@calvintyler9281 for this game in particular tho it’s weird for it to not have any semblance of consequence for whether you use the power or not. Especially seeing as it is one of the few games where even the most minor choices have notable effects.
I convinced karlach wyll and shadowheart to become worm junkies like me.
I really wished that those powers came with heavy trade-offs. Really disappointed that they are just strictly the right thing to take.
TLDR: I like the option to be very OP in exchange for nothing more than immoral choices. It makes making the sacrifices of being good feel more meaningful.
I feel ya, but as a counter point, stealing anything and everything is also strictly the right thing to do. Infinite money by stealing makes the game easier, but you might feel like its wrong. If you go full illithid, you become a one mane unstoppable god that solos armies with ease using no items or class abilities. But you have chosen a path that your RP character might feel is 'wrong' in doing so. So everyone should do it once, but then try another playthrough where you deny that awesome power in the name of doing the 'good' thing and the sacrifice you make in the name of goodness feels more meaningful.
@@bennettjb2010 it's simply a missed opportunity by the game designers. Even if these decisions just made the last bossfight harder or just made you more susceptible to mindflayer influence or weaker towards enchantment magic, it would've been fine.
@@faselfasel2864 If I was a dungeon master running this as a campaign, I would allow the players to take "levels" in illithid to unlock more potent power options. I dont know about 5e, but in 3.5 monstrous races had an effective level adjustment because a lvl 10 minitour fighter is strickly stronger than a lvl 10 human fighter. In the same way, in this game, going full illithid makes me feel like an 18th level character instead of a 12th level which throws off the feeling of balance.
I think it would feel good to have a choice than means at endgame i could have say SRC11/MON1 with tier 1 squid powers available. SRC10/MON2 with tier 2 squid powers, or SRC8/MON4 and have the full squid super powers.
Luck of the far realms plus paladin smite is an iconic duo 👌
I’m doing my evil drow dark urge playthrough so I’ll definitely be eating that tadpole
Black whole and fire wizard was my first so strong and fun! Live this goty
Bro the drums goes crazy
The puss heads are no joke! Even the almighty drow have a healthy respect for these fantastical creatures.
That damn Divine Smite Crit is dangerous!
Blackhole + Hunger of Hudar mega OP
Should go to the Githyanki creche in the Mountain Pass, allows you to use your powers as a bonus action rather than an action. Pair it with lvl 3 rouge with Thief and you can double cast without speed potions
For those wondering, the soundtrack Is project jhin login screen
Cull the weak is op as hell
the black hole skill is too good
Honestly doing the Act 2 glitch that turns your party into full mindflayer with all the illithid powers is hella fun, even if I was stuck at lv9. Having perma mindsanctury was bonkers
Had Karlach as an Illithid in the final fight spamming mind blast and black hole at the Center of the dragon and the Emperor and then use my Durge‘s bonus action for another mind blast. Almost won that fight in 1 turn
In order to do this you gotta beat the 3 DC checks including a 30DC on the magic chair in the Gith camp. If you fail any of them, its -2 to a stat permanently.
The best part is that you can use gith zaithisk in act 1 in a way, that turns all illithid powers into bonus action for one of characters, now imagine black hole or mind blast every turn and using fireball or some other shit with it
Lmao the LoL music i cant take it serious
Dont needem, Don't needem, Don't needem
Using perilous stakes in that way is genius, I can't believe I've been sleeping on it this whole time
Fyi nothing bad happens if you take them, well if you consider getting visible black veins on your face and fully black eyes to be bad them thats really the only negative
Won’t affect endings and you keep your race benefits, insanely OP things too, you can get them if you want them
Your character build looks the same as mine , same gear even . Absolutely wreck shit with the pally/illithid powers
There's an exploit that lets you keep reusing free cast everytime you use black hole. I can use black hole then free cast a level 6 quickened spell fire ball every turn. Since it's free cast it doesn't use the spell slot and doesn't drain my sorcery points
Mm black hole into hunger of hadar is my fav combo.
I'm only on my first playthrough and haven't used a single power or eatern any extra tadpoles, virtuous paladin 4life... but on my next playthrough, i will definitely join the brain eating crew in all this op highjinks.
That is just too OP. Ggs
On my 3rd playthrough and I haven't used a single tadpole. I'll be damed if I turn myself into a soulless mindflayer.
I swear I feel like I am an ethereal from XCOM when I use those powers and my bards mind magic.😊
Hold person and paladin smite makes for unfair blinding lights
Someone else’s gameplay are so fun and exciting! Mine is hit and hope thru can’t hit you back.
Bro that is some mix of Jhins theme no?
haha, I JUST did this fight from the start of the video yesterday and did basically the same thing. That character has ALL illithid powers in one brain, he is OP AF
Can’t wait till a mod lets you play as an end game mindflayer from the start
In table top, mind flayers are seriously no joke. Will save or you put for minutes at a time. Not rounds. Minutes. Them and beholders can be insta party killers
Nice PROJECT theme
the intro part of it was Jhin's theme as well wasn't it? I think I need to find this cover :p
If you want to really see OP... make a half orc barbarian..at lvl 2 multiclass to Monk.
Now you have a monk who can rage, wear med armor and use 2 handers. by lvl 5 you can attack 5 times in 1 turn. Your crits do insane dmg.
A shame that even boss fight are over in 2 turns, even in tactician. You can’t really enjoy such op build when the difficulty is so low, only bad point of the game imo
There’s lots of setups like this. Just going into a fight with haste cast on you on anything that attacks multiple times and you’ll destroy everything.
A hasted fighter gloomstalker assassin on first turn can do something like 10 attacks, even more if you include the second turn you get due to everything being surprised. You finish entire fights before enemies can fight back.
this is an eternal issue in dnd. 1 big monster simply cant keep up with the actions economy of a full 4 man party. @@abdelzever9558
Im doing a good run where my paladin breaks his oath in act three and accepts the tadpole and oathbreaker powers because hed most assuredly sacrifice himself over others to save the world and doesn't see any other way withnthe odds atacked against him. Not done with it yet (so no spoilers pls) but i think it will make a cool story
We need more difficulty when complete the first run. And can take companions at the beginning
That's actually amazing

The displacer beast is so fucking broken, your telling me I get a separate hp bar, can teleport and leave clones that attack after I teleport, and get multiple attacks. Sheeet
kinda the point, powerful and tempting
Nice try mind flayer, but you wont convince me to use the tadpoles 👹
Black hole right there is the exact same thing I did for this fight XD
Maybe being a mind flayer ain’t so bad, just gotta get a ring of mind shielding to avoid being enslaved to an elder brain.
lol what are the odds i just made it to the circus and killed those doofuses. was contemplating letting the big cat out but after having some words with her.....i sadly didnt
How do you get your abilities to go up more? I only have a row of 2. It’s a pain to scroll looking for a spell.
Look for the Plus button on the right side of the bar bruv
There is a reason why the Guardian told you to keep consuming more tadpoles
You know I haven’t activated a single worm I’ve found but I am tempted
That 21 damage sure is up at the cost of 2 actions
Firebolt
"Missed"
I thought he was gonna one-shot the entire wave on the first clip
This game looks awesome
This is good, but have you tried create water + lightning 😂😂😂
Embrace the brain slug. Everyone is doing brain slug.
I went through my whole first playthrough without using them because i didnt like the idea of making my brain parasite stronger.
And this is why class progression stops at 12th level. Could you imagine going beyond that with Illithid Powers on top of it all? That's insane! XD
Could argue it the other way.
But not everyone is using the powers. It’s kind of like using cheat codes and then your punished narratively for doing so. It’s like using the dark side in KoToR. As well, this is already pretty broken might as well let people be OP at end game anyways and just balance the completely broken spells like Wish. Larian already nerfed so many good spells like Polymorph and Spiritual Weapon.
@Broskisnowski not quite, Mystra's domain is *magic* and yes, she does impose limitations, but that limit is *9th level* spells which I think is around 19th and 20th level, for a pure mage without any multiclassing.
So there is still room for Wizards, Sorcerers and Warlocks to grow, and martials have no such limitations... but Baldur's Gate has never gone that far at least in the base game... maybe when or if Larian makes an expansion... but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Kind of proud I beat the game on tactician without ever consuming a tadpole.
