Thank you so much for discussing the evil topping method so many people do to their trees. I think a lot of people think this method is the right way to prune them. You never get that beautiful smooth bark if you crop them every year.

Nobody talks about a good brand of top soil or potting mix for a purple crape myrtle. I live in Florida and having trouble keeping my tree in good condition. If you can help I will appreciate it and my beautiful tree.

Can you please let us know of a good brand of top soil or potting mix for a young crape myrtle ( purple). Because my tree looks very dry not too healthy

I live in New Mexico and have never pruned my crepe myrtle. It came from a tree but now’s grows like a bush. I think if I prune it it will grow taller. Would it be ok to prune it now in Oct.?

We live in Florida, moved in December and moved the tree to a new location by a professional. Here it is May 5, and still no sign of life, there is green under the bark, will it live?

I live in zone 6, but I was told never to plant one on the northwest side of a house. It needs to be protected from winter wind, otherwise the stems dry out and it pushes from the bottom instead. Not sure how windy it is there in the winter, but that's the rule of thumb in the northeast anyway.

We love the topped look and will continue to top them. I've never seen a crepe die from the annual top pruning method.

Topped crepe myrtles make ugly knobs and look horrible.
