This is a really cool rendition of the song. I've seen many people cover it with an upbeat feel, like the original, and I've also seen people cover it and make it soft and nice like at the beginning of this. I like how they combined both ways, and exploded in the middle.
I like the grungy spin on this. While I don't like slow covers of this song as much, the solo break is AWESOME and appeals to me more than the sax solo in Bowie's version.
I think Bowie's original is so brilliant because he made a song with deep powerful lyrics and put it to hip danceable music so it could be played and enjoyed by the masses without having them really reflect on the content of the song unless they chose to do so. It isn't music with a message forced down your throat.
