Hi guys right today was a bit different. This is one, dangerous electrical installation, What were they thinking.
I had no plans to film today but I couldn't help it this installation was so bad It made me film it. so that being said its a bit of a rant so I apologies in advance. We have to replace the consumer unit as it is beyond repair and discover some shocking truths about the current installation which is supposed to be safe.

They all do it, had a council contractor sign a faulty ring main as safe with bad insulation which went bang in the following months. He also didn't bother to change the light switches or sockets (was requested) which were clapped out as they were 100% original fittings from 1979 with various faults like socket shutters stuck open.
Some people just don't give a f*** as long as they get paid, and it stains everyone else.

Here's a question...why do the spots need to be fire rated ?
Is it because the light fitting / electronics could burst into flame and thus compromise the room above OR because the fitting has punched a hole through the fire barrier formed by the plaster board ceiling ?
(In which case placing a transformer/PSU in the void between the ceiling and floor above would be a no-no ?)

Before I start let me say I can see you are a great sparks who takes his job very seriously and my comments don’t apply to you. I sympathise with your views I have inherited a number of installation performed by accredited companies where the work was shocking. We are told to always seek out accredited firms to avoid workmanship like this. The fault lies with the accrediting organisations who don’t police the work. As you said in a previous reply nothing will happen to this firm and this standard of workmanship will continue. Where do we go? I have been forced down the DIY route and I will stand by this position while you guys keep finding workmanship like this.

The next question is whether they're even inside the zones, as 1 and 2 only extend 225 cm from the finished floor. If they're outside the zones, they only need to be fit for purpose, so if there's no obvious signs of water damage, they probably are. In this case the problem is the fire rating though.

@@Ragnar8504 And even then, if the down lights are not fire rated......you can only give it a code 3 on an EICR, providing they are installed correctly. Having a non fire rated down light is not electrically unsafe. You can not code 2 the situation based on building regulations.
Also, it isn’t a given that in all situations building regulations require you to install fire rated down lights. So unless you have knowledge of the building and how it is segregated into fire compartments, if at all......how can you even decide if they need to be fire rated?? If you listen to one of John Wards RUclips vids on Part P he says they are not really required unless you have a 3 story building or a flat as you have a means of escape? Unless i missed something when i watched it? The lack of CPCs could just be loose connections from doing the tests. A house is generally a single fire compartment so unless you have actually breached a fire compartment like an attached garage ceiling which is fire boarded with 15mm pink board then the fact there’s a room above is irrelevant , you haven’t breached a fire compartment. The fact that most houses don’t have internal fire doors tells you this.

  • @acelectricalsecurity

You have to ask the question who's fault is it really, you said you have come across their work before and it's as this job. So with that in mind, you can assume that this is their standard of workmanship, so what are the NIC saying or doing to them, because I would say the NIC are largely to blame.
They are happy to take the £500 each year, I know some will pay more, but they are a money making machine, they are not interested in problems and make it as difficult as possible for customers to complain and drag it out as long as possible.
The whole system is crap and it's mostly down to part p, because as soon as that was introduced standards were watered down so that knob heads could join.
