Illegal hiking is taking valuable resources from HPD. Warnings didn't stop Illegal hiking. The stairs are coming down. Get used to it. Residents are thankful. Mahalo Mayor.

Warnings do nothing. Issue citations and arrest violators. If they have to be rescued, charge them the full amount for the rescue.

So wasteful to spend millions in taxpayer dollars to repair the stairs only to tear them down because a bunch of selfish whiners didn't like people hiking near their houses. Maybe don't buy a house next to a hiking trail if you don't want to live near one. This would be like buying a house next to a freeway and then insisting that no one drive on the freeway because you don't like the noise.

What a bunch of malarkey reasons for stopping people from enjoying nature. Pretty soon the only way to enjoy nature will be to look at pictures. Is this what we want people? This is draconian. If you don't like to get off your couch, don't include outdoors people with your sedentary life style. And yes, go ahead and charge people that need assistance, but don't penalize the 99.999% that don't.

The construction equipment shouldn’t be there. One mayor shouldn’t just decide to tear out a historic landmark without putting it to a state wide vote. The legal route to the same location is far more dangerous.

Maybe the fact that millions of dollars in taxpayer money were spent repairing this popular hiking trail only for hiking it to then be banned because whiny spoiled brats bought houses next to a hiking trail and then insisted that no one be allowed to hike it.

People are going to go to the top with or without the stairs. There is a "back door" trail to the top from both Aiea and Moanalua. Both hikes are VERY dangerous. The city just made a bad situation worse. But, when has the city ever done the smart thing?
