- ■ HIMALAYA, MUNDU: The village of Mundu, although situated in Nepal, is culturally, linguistically and architecturally Tibetan. The people who live here, although Nepalese by citizenship, are Tibetan by heritage, language and culture.
Their ancestors were nomadic and moved about in the Himalayan mountain range with their livestock looking for grazing fields and fertile soil. With the Chinese conquest of their lands, Nepal, unlike some other neighboring countries have magnanimously given them citizenship.
They describe themselves as both Tibetans and Nepalese though and speak both languages. They continue to be a mountain dwelling people at heart and whenever I asked anyone about moving to a warmer city where life is presumably easier, the answer was: NO!
Having been brought here by Kartok Lama, the woman who runs Hard Rock Cafe up here in these mountains you saw in my previous video, I was told I could spend the night to experience and get a unique insight into Tibetan village life in the Himalayas.
Naturally this was an opportunity I was obviously not going to miss....

What is the yearly income like for the lifestyle these people live? Just curious. I live very simply myself but I am in a major metropolis. I would probably exist better there.
Honestly, I really didn't enjoy the USA series, but this Himalaya series has been possibly the best ever on this channel Harald! Fantastic documenting of how life really is in this crazy part of the world!

Because the people who live in these types of nations are much stronger and happier. Western people just like to complain and get too involved in politics. These people have no time to be sad because they cant pick their gender or if their president says mean things. Gotta wake up and learn to survive and build your life not wait for government to pay for everything.

It feels home when I go to them and love this house, smell of the incense, milking nak (female yak), grandmother and grandfathers chanting tibetan buddhist mantras, Grandpas yeti stories AND grandma's cooking ❤ 💕 😭

Hello Go_himalaya. I know I am just a stranger to you, but I already love your family. I can tell they are kind, generous, respectful, and wise. I want to share with you the most important part of my life. I used to study the 8 fold path and the 4 noble truths, and I lived in a karmic way. But then I had several encounters with God. He revealed to be Jesus Christ of the Holy Bible. Never being a Christian before, I was very surprised. But I couldn't deny it. As I read the Holy Bible, I realized it accurately explained humanity, God, and life here and after.
The truth is, we have all done some evil thing. Big or small. And karma, paying for it over a hundred lifetimes would never remove our guilt, because we do only live once and then we are before God. God Jesus desires to let us into heaven, but He must do justice to sinners, or else He'd be a sinner Himself. So God became a man so that He could represent all of us. He died on the cross with all our sins put upon His soul, though He never sinned. And He took our punishment. However, being God, even DEATH couldn't stop Him!
He had power to lay His life down and power to take it up again. Jesus rose from the dead, then ascended back into the throne of heaven. He wants every human to be forgiven their sins. All He requires is that we trust His sacrifice for us. If we trust God, He applies His sacrifice to us and we have eternal life in heaven.
If we reject God, we have left Him no choice but to do justice against us and those people go to hell in the fire lake forever. I know this is all hard to believe, since, like me, you were raised believing differently. But I swear to you it is true and I love you and your family and want you to go to heaven and not go to hell. Thank you for listening to my message. May God bless you so much.

Actually most people are peaceful. It's just a small amount of people who cause the conflicts and fight in them. The vast majority of people just want to live in peace if possible.
I loved this Himalayan series not only because I am Tibetan but I love everything from Nepal 🇳🇵 because it is where my heart belongs. I loved how you try to communicate with them, trying Chang, the neighbor lady capturing the scene from her eyes, the neighbours teaching how to say cat in Nepali…it’s my off day today and I had a good time watching this vlog. But you have to be able to afford to go there (+ helicopter ride), so, money bought those precious moments.
@@HyBlock You can always walk like I did the first time. Will take you 4 days (including bus from Kathmandu to trailhead) and 3 to get back. I'd say it's doable on $10 a day plus the bus fare which is also about $10. That's $90 for 7 days. I'd say that's pretty affordable.

I live in Charlottesville Virginia and we have a lot of Tibetan people here. When China invaded Tibet in 1950 the University of Virginia sent a team to gather as many books as they could get and have a special collection in the library here. The Dali Lama comes here sometimes to study the books and spend time with his people here. There are times we don’t even know he is here.
I made friends with a Tibetan woman who I worked with and was invited into her world. The people from Tibet and Nepal and the whole region (including India) are such special people. They are close to nature and the rhythms of life. I feel they are holding the knowledge for the world that is So Valuable.
All the natural native peoples on every continent have suffered so much from the Western culture I was born into. Sometimes I grieve for what you have suffered for just wanting to live a simple and spiritual life. I’m so grateful for the knowledge and wisdom you are sharing with us 🥰✨🌈🥳🙋🏼♀️🌎

From Maasai tribes in Tanzania, to favelas in Rio, villages in Sri Lanka, Vietnam mountains and now the unseen and secluded villages of Himalaya... Harald fits in anywhere. I swear you could ship him to another planet on the edge of the galaxy and he would be able to communicate with the aliens. Simply incredible. Truly, one of the best contents of youtube. May I kindly suggest an Amazon trip in the near future ? Seems fitting to the unintentional ethnographic research channel this has become.
Really great. I went to Nepal in the late 1980's and walked to a place called Muktinath I think it was called. We ended up walking along a canyon with mountains on either side and made it to a tibetan looking village in the lower parts of a mountain. I think it was a place for pilgrims. We stayed in a huge building like a fortress.
I will always remember it. Such lovely people and an amazing landscape. There was a big religious festival and holy people blew conch shells on the open flat roof above us. I bargained (but not really) with a large, beautiful, smiling Tibetan woman for a yak blanket which I still have. She looked after us European tourists and only spoke her language.
I saw Nepali people in sandals carrying crates of coca cola stacked on their backs for miles up the mountain tracks. I joked with some Nepali porters and tried to lift their packs but could not which led to much laughter all round. Nordic blokes were running up and down with tiny backpacks and I suffered from altitude sickness and ended up on my knees. It was the trip of a lifetime. Harald is very good and is equipped only slightly better than we were. We took no sleeping bag, wore cheap, light hi-tec boots, carried small packs with no first aid or gps or mobile and had feather jackets. We had no guides. In one village we stopped in 3 Guest Houses in a row. Don't stand on the inside or outside of pack animals on a mountain as both ways will probably kill you. If an animal wants to turn round then pay attention; they notice an avalanche before it becomes apparent to us, as I witnessed.

Harald's videos living with the natives deep in uncharted territory are always exciting and interesting to watch. It is not just simple vlogging. It is almost investigative video journalism, but nowhere near as stale. He is documenting life in a very simple and open approach. Very free and spontaneous format. He is adventuring out into the unknown, ALONE! Letting go of control so that fate can decide his journey. To 99% of us that is terrifying. We have to plan everything out, have a family support system, and make sure we are safe and comfortable at all times. Like 10 layers of safety. Harald has 0 layers of safety. As you can see when he got sick there is no hospital, no film crew to save him. He is relying on the hospitality of strangers and his own strength to carry on. You get to come along and experience all of this first hand. Much more fresh and profound than something like a documentary on Himalayan life where the viewer is separated from the true experience by a lens, narrator, producer, script, film crew...... this is completely free, life is the script, and it is beautiful. I have really enjoyed this Tibetan adventure! Getting to meet all these amazing heartwarming characters living life in extreme conditions. Thanks Harald

i feel a certain kind of comfort watching this video, typing this whilst my eyes are tearing...it just that im going through so much right now, school, money and all that stuff. looking at the way these people live, despite not living a life of luxury...(which i so much desire), they seem to be genuinely happy. i know i should be grateful for the life i have...but honestly i would give up everything i have going on here to live the lifestyle of these people. they seem happy, even with the little they have. god, i have huge respect for u harald...watching your videos really takes me to a different dimension. thank u so much.

It doesn’t seem like they are speaking Tibetan. They were saying “Biralu” which means cat in Nepali. Maybe a word two but not much.
Lots of the people living in the mountains bordering Nepal and Tibet are Sherpas and Tamangs who speak languages which have some similarities to the Tibetan language but they do not identify as Tibetans. They do dress similar with certain distinct differences and eat some similar food and share the same religion “Tibetan Buddhism.”

In the past Tibet used to be ruled by Nepal and they used to pay taxes to Nepalese governments. Later treaty happened and Nepal lost it and it belongs to china

Nepalese princess Bhrikuti Devi (Sanskrit: भृकुटी) was sent to Tibet for marriage to Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo in 7th century to form political alliance not vice versa. You might want to do some research. Have you compared the size of Tibet and Nepal on the map?
